That's awesome!

I too just saw this. I am so sorry that you lost Charlie. It is a good thing that you got closure, sad as it might be. If you hadn't found him you would probably be wondering for a very long time if that day would come that he would show up. At least with knowing the outcome perhaps once your grieving for your dear friend passes you may be able to open your heart and home to another bird who could use a good home.

For some reason right now my links aren't working correctly. For those in the US (outside the US shipping is horribly expensive I hear) it is called Mastermind Heart Forager by Creative Foraging which I purchased from mysafebirdstore.com. I love ordering from there and right now she has it on sale. I am not sure if this company has product outside the US. This is the third "puzzle" toy I've gotten him so far. Bugger is way too smart for his own good sometimes.

Have you tried taking her in the shower with you? Jasper doesn't care for spraying or misting at all so I got him a shower perch. While he isn't always keen to actually avail himself of the water I think the steam and moisture is good for them. If nothing else put her on the shower rod when you shower. Just be sure to give her a fav foot toy so she isn't tempted to eat the shower curtain. =)

I've been through the pin feathers with my GCC. He's pretty patient with my clumsy fingers but I've made him squeal and pull away a time or two Lots of good answers, thanks for them all and for the article.

..so he had to make it more challenging and even that was too easy.

It sounds like you have a great household! They are so cute when they are finding their voice, you can't help but feel proud for them for learing to communicate with their adoptive flock. Thank you for what you do for the kittens.

...Jasper is really starting to molt pretty good now. I take him into the shower with me at least twice a week for steam at least. I am out of his Bean Cuisine that I mix with veggies in the morning and I recently switched veggie brands. I switched to one that has lima beans in it as well as carrots, peas, and corn. He also gets a broccoli spear in the morning too. The first couple days he didn't seem to like it but he's eating it now. I fed him like usual and he was begging like a starving thing when I ate so I looked in his bowl...he's barely touched it. This is his dry mix, the Harrison's was just opened recently so it can't be that's stale. He gets the dried Just Veggies in there as well as half an avi-cake. He's nibbled on that but doesn't look like much else has been touched. I do recall him munching a couple pellets before when I was in here sitting but there seems to be alot left. Right now he's playing with another foraging toy that doesn't have anything in it. Is it possible he's just going through another "rather play than eat" phase? As I speak he's in there munching now so maybe he's not been in the mood to eat. They both need their nails trimmed again and right now in this new place I know of no where else to take them but the avian vet. I'm afraid to ask what that will cost, I'm used to the $5 trim I could get where I bought him. I'll just have to ask the vet what she thinks because I've always thought he's been a bit on the skinny side. I think I know where his scale is after the move, it'll just be a process of getting him used to it again.

I had some walnuts recently and I let Jasper have a whole one to see what he would do. He tossed it around a few times..*bang* onto the seed guard..the other day I was cage cleaning and pulled his playtop tray out and there was the nut, broken open in half but the meat not even touched. Maybe he doesn't like walnuts?

Jasper tried once to bathe in his water bowl a couple months after he had been home. That's the only time I've seen him try. I take him in the shower with me and once in a great while he will open his wings and duck into the stream of water. My conure on the other hand loves bathtime. He'll dunk in his water, look at me and make this special squak, my cue to get his bath filled and hung in the door for him. Is that a normal type wing clip? It's totally opposite what Jasper gets.

Jasper will beg for anything he sees me eating no matter what it is. Not too long ago it was hot wings so I gave him one I had stripped fairly clean.

Jasper::climbs up Santa's leg because his wings were clipped at the bird store for safety reasons. He looks up at Santa with pleading eyes "C'mon buddy, lend me a hand ok?" When Santa reaches down with a gloved hand to help, Jasper rolls his eyes around trying to see where the perch is while one foot lets go and waves around in the air searching. Santa slips his fingers into Jasper's toes which close firmly around them before he lets go. Luckily he lets a bomb go before getting on Santa's lap, which narrowly misses the highly polished black boots..."whew". Jasper hops down onto Santa's knee and eyes that fluffy white beard with great interest. "What do I want for Yule hmm..well, Santa since you asked here's my list". With that he reaches under a wing and pulls out a wad of paper. Upon shaking it out some paper bits fly and litter Santa's lap, the paper itself looking a bit like a primary school student's attempt at a paper snowflake. He presents it and waggles his tail at the man's bewildered expression. "What? Oh..sorry..I guess I got carried away. How about I just tell--oh you have *glasses*...I love glasses...shiney...right! Focus..." Jasper ruffles his feathers and lifts a foot, scratching a claw against his cheek with a thoughtful expression. "Well how about..a case of pine nuts! And...self-filling puzzle toys because I figure them out so fast and then they are empty..and for my big brother Tico a muzzle because when I try to sing he always tells me to *shhhhh*. And aside from that...forever homes for all the unwanted birdies.*rufflefluff* As my friend Einstein from Texas says...Merry Corn!!"

..but still a baby.. Happy First Hatchday Jasper!! And Happy Hatchday, Tico for tomorrow!
-
Thanks so much for this reference, I come back and reread it often.
-
Very cute, thank you for sharing!

Happy Hatchday, Peanut! My two have theirs coming up here in about a week, Hatchday presents ordered!

..in the face of Sandy. It's really starting to blow and gust here and the worst is yet to come I hear. Birds don't seem to mind, Oliver is the only one that acts unnerved by it all. My thoughts and prayers go to everyone affected.

What do the stress marks look like? Anyone have pictures? Heard of them but not sure exactly what they are.
-
Poor baby, I hope you both are feeling much better soon.
-
Bless you for doing right by this old fellow. I love cats (any animal really but cats have made a special place in my heart) and I appreciate people like you. Even without sight he will learn the house as long as his hearing and nose still work he should be fine. You did the right thing.
-
How cute. Jasper gets all wound up like that sometimes too. Where did she pick up the laser and chicken from? LOL Now Jasper is answering her back. He's 10 mos old too, when is her hatchday?
-
Hee! Like yours, Jasper seems to think he has to have some of whatever I have. He's discovered a passion for pine nuts so I use those as training treats. He also loves it when I treat him to some sweet potato baby food off a spoon. (One of my cats absolutely flips for this also  )

No, it's actually the same bag of Harrison's that I opened like a week before the move. Of course I like to tell my friend it's all the good energy running through her house that's probably put him at ease
-
I've noticed Jasper doing that at times and had wondered about that as well.
-
This is so strange..ever since the move last week Jasper has been eating like a pig. He gets the same food as before but I have increased his pellets as he always cleans them up now. Before it was typical for him to still have some left the next morning, some days more than others. He's ten months old. I don't mind the eating because he's always been on the skinny side I think since I brought him home. His keelbone is easily felt. This morning he got his breakfast around 9:30 and here it is two hours later and he is still picking through the bowl eating. This has become quite common. Is it something to do with his age?
