  1. Congratulations!! After visiting a few time you might see that one has chosen you. I was hoping a baby would pick me and if not I was leaning towards a girl. Well I didn't have a choice and I have a boy! Not sure when he will be ready to come home. Kim
  2. I'll have to look up what "onyx-pected" means. LOL He's the youngest of 4 and I met all 4 when I met the breeder. But at that time she was keeping him and the other 3 have homes. Here are a couple pictures of him in the egg, one not long out of the egg, and one of all 4 but it's an older picture. ) Kim
  3. Thanks Jeff. Since he will most likely out live me and odds are good that he would become my sons bird, I'm letting my son help me name him. So far we have not agreed on anything. LOL Kim
  4. She has 4 babies now but all 4 were most likely spoken for. She planned on keeping one because he needed assistance hatching and it was on her birthday. Then she had 3 friends interested in the other 3 but one friend is still trying to decide for sure and if she doesn’t take one I can have him. The parents are on more eggs but they should have started hatching by now and so far nothing. She sent me an email today and said she has decided not to keep the baby that she helped hatch on her birthday and I can have him. So I now have a baby boy!! I’m so excited!! He’s almost 10 weeks old and now I need a name for him. Kim
  5. I don't have any thoughts on what might be going on, but there is a forum dedicated to cockatiels, the people there might be able to help. Although some people here do have tiels. ) http://talkcockatiels.com/ Kim
  6. Four months is not very long. I "adopted" a 3 yr old Dusky Pionus about five months ago and just recently I've been seeing some change in her. Just a bit more relaxed and confident. I think you should just keep doing what you've been doing and in time she will open up more. Others might have some things you can add to what you're doing to help things along. ) Kim
  7. At only 8 weeks I'm guessing he doesn't perch real well yet? I wonder if the fear comes from now understanding the concept of falling? I have no experience with greys, but the birds I have hand fed step up well by the time they are perching well. And all these birds would do it sooner than a grey just because they grow/mature/wean faster/sooner. Kim
  8. I take it on a bird by bird basis. Some of my birds are flighted and some are not. And remember, trimmed flight feathers will grow back, then if need be you can trim again. Kim
  9. Somehow I just don't see you as a "grumpy old man"! LOL Kim
  10. YAY DJ!! You can do it! Kim
  11. Woohoo!! I'll get there one day. Still just an egg. Kim
  12. This is such great story! I had tears in my eyes after I read it. Kim
  13. Welcome to the group! I'm new here as well and don't have a grey yet. My baby is till an egg. Kim
  14. Also, the gauge/size/thickness of the wire should be fine. Unless your bird hates being in it's cage and frantically tries to break out you won't have any problems. Kim
  15. Welcome!! I'm new to the forum, as well as to greys, but not birds. My baby grey is an egg right now and should be hatching any day. I grew up owning/riding horses but don't have any now. My 16 yr old son and I have a dog, 2 cats, 2 bunnies, and a "few" birds. Kim
  16. So even when he sticks food in it it still works? I have a couple with that kind of valve (different bottle) for my bunnies but haven't really tried them yet. Kim
  17. They were a delight. She was loving on them One started hatching on her birthday and he needed help. Needless to say she's keeping that one. Kim
  18. I don't have a grey yet but I use a blue bulb in a lamp as a night light for my birds. I don't know if it makes them feel better, but it makes me feel better. Kim
  19. She looks to be having a good time! All my birds seem to prefer cold water as well. Kim
  20. I have an open door policy as well, any bird that will stay in/on his or her cage has their door open when I'm home. Goose won't, not yet anyway. On another forum someone suggested a second IRN to meet Goose's needs. Her albino sister is still available and her breeder thinks there is a very good chance that they would get along well into the future. I know at any time they could decide that they no longer like each other, but as long as they do I wouldn't have another cage to clean or another bird to take up my time (because I could have them with me together). I actually wanted the albino first but she was sold, then the sale fell through. I could move Goose into one of my A&E flight cages for now and once I got her sister move them both into the bigger cage. That way it wouldn't be Goose's cage first. Her breeder said she would let me make payments and it would be about 6 weeks before I could pay her off and bring her home. Thoughts?? I would LOVE to have her for me, not just to keep Goose company. Kim
  21. Goose, my baby IRN, wants to be with me at all times. When she’s in her cage and can see me she wants out. I need to teach her how to entertain herself and that she won’t always be out when I’m around. The cage she’s in is a temp/baby cage. I’m moving her into her big bird cage within the next few days (I need to set it up). My plan is to ignore her while she does this and let her out as soon as she settles down. But she never settles down! LOL : Any thoughts/suggestions on what else I can do would be great. The next step will be to teach her how to stay on her cage as well as a play stand. Kim
