Stacey, How old is your baby? Have you been able to visit him/her at all? I'm picking Xandir up tomorrow. He's 16 weeks old and I only met him once, and that was before I knew he was going to be mine. But he's VERY social, loves everybody, so I know things will be just fine. ) Kim

A couple of months ago I adopted a Meyer's Parrot. Sophie. The lady I got her from said she's around 14 yrs old, but if I go by what looks like the year on her band she's 19. Either way she's a real sweetheart. She really took to my 16 yr old son but seems to at least like both of us. She's very hands on, we can touch her all over (unlike my IRN's) and she'll hang upside down from my son's hand. ) Kim

I don't plan on clipping him and I'll do everything I can to help him build confidence. His development, physically and otherwise, was slow because of his illness, but he has confidence in himself when it come to people. When at the vets the other day he went to everyone and let them love on him. The vet and office staff couldn't believe he was the same bird that was there a month ago. ) Kim

Because of the Vitamin D overdose Xandir was quite sick and was slow to develop physically. He was late in playing with toys and late perching. I had asked his breeder not to clip his wings and she has not, but today she told me that he has not flown at all, not even once. He's 16 weeks old, is it normal for a grey this age to not have tried to fly at all? Kim

Xandir gets to come home now but I'm going to be doing more "homework" ) I will be contacting a few people, including my avian vet, to make sure I'm giving him the best long term care possible. Because of the vitamin D overdose he's on an all natural, supplement free, diet. That includes NO pellets. So I need to know what will be best for him going forward. Tina, his breeder, is an awesome lady. She has been wonderful through this whole thing. I have found that animal lovers are wonderful, special people, and I'm proud to be one. ) Thank you! Kopi has also passed? I think you are very special and one day Gilbert will know it. I love reading about him and I think you are doing a wonderful job. Do you have threads about Juno and Kopi? First test results: Calcium 11.7 Phosphorous 4.4 Uric Acid 18.1 Retest results: Calcium 0 Phosphorous 3.2 Uric Acid 7.6 His breeder has not yet spoken with the vet so she does not know why the calcium is listed as 0. But his Uric Acid, the important one, is WAY down. YAY!!!! If I have Monday off from work I'll be picking him up then, if not, then Tuesday. )

Thank you katana600. I’ve been doing research and contacted a few people online. We need the results of the follow up blood test to see just how much improvement has taken place. His breeder, and the vet in question, live about 2 hrs from me; but I have an avian vet and she and I will discuss in detail what might be expected in the future, once we have the new test results. If the results show that he is likely to have long term/continual issues his breeder won’t part with him. He’s had a very difficult start in life and is very special. First he couldn’t get out of his shell and his breeder had to assist him. Because of this she hand fed him from day one. Then the bad formula and being real sick. He’s feeling so much better that he’s almost not the same bird. She said that he’s very loving and social. Unless the chance of issues is high, I will be bringing him home. ) Kim

Thanks everyone. My heart tells me to bring him home no matter what and just give him the best life possible. But his breeder might not go for that. She plans on calling the lab tomorrow to see if they have the results, that way we don't have to wait for after the long weekend. | Kim

Thanks. ) I am a little worried that his test results won't be much better then a month ago. If it shows high probability of future issues I'm going to need to think very hard about bringing him home. And if I decide to wait for another baby it will be months. ( Kim

Eventually we’re going to move into a bigger place/house, but for now my son, a mini aussie, 2 cats, 10 birds (at the moment), and I, live in a 2 bedroom apartment. Well, one of my dream dogs is a red Shiba Inu female and I found a nine year old that needs a home. It would be a three hour drive (one way) to go get her but I want her, and I drove six hours (one way) to get my mini aussie. It’s hard to take pictures of Kalia, my mini aussie, because she always thinks she’s in trouble. ) But here are a couple of her and one of Tisha, the Shiba Inu. Kim
