Eh, hubby is better this morning so things are looking up! Lol

Oh yeah, left out the koi pond and the cat and 3 betas! Lol ( have you fed your koi watermelon? Funniest thing ever to watch them eat it. I hold it for them most of the time and they eat right from my hand)

Ruff day here. Actually thought about getting her wings clipped a wee bit. Then after i had my pity party laughed at the thought! Getting use to a flighted 20 yr old is not for the faint of heart! Cooking dinner tonight she flew onto my shoulder twice and she wasn't even in the kitchen! We don't let her in there when the stove is in use, or to even fly in the kitchen because of her thinking it will always be safe. There was no stopping her, she even bit hubby pretty bad when he tried to put her up until dinner was cooked. High stress day ( here we go again thread started in "other birds" ) and i am sure they all felt it. -
Took Bubba in today for his first vet check since he came to live with us. I really figured, ok he lived with Oliver so what ever happens, it couldn't be any worse than a positive pdd. WRONG! Herpies? Really? Okay, now we wait for those tests to come back. What the heck have these birds been through, i am afraid to think? I spoke to him about the weird crop and his noises he makes when he poops. Who would have thought to look at his bumm? He had a huge, for lack of a better description, hemmroid hanging out almost closing his butt completely. We opted to start the " freezing " to remove what we can. He said could take up to 6 treatments. Poor fella. The crop may be engulfed due to the food not being able to flow at a normal pace outta his body. Gesh, and it can be passed to other birds, not air born but thru fluids. So here it is.... I got one b&g macaw who tested positive for PDD One b&g macaw who either has "hemmroids" or herpies One CAG with a deformed foot One dog with diabetes, 2 shots a day One dog deathly afraid of the birds and won't come inside unless we go out and pick her up Two other dogs who are just spoiled and needy A sick husband And CAG Bongo! Calgon, take me away, please, and hurry! LOL

When it is on the floor, tile or wood, the laminate countertop samples from Home Depot work great as a scraper for the darker poo, then just sweep and mop. Of course this is for the dried stuff. Best if you can get it right away but man, mine poops so much i can't keep up!

Is it like he is starting to yawn then like he is trying to swallow something big by stretching our his neck to get it to slide down? I use to think that mine were gasping to get air. I do know what you are talking about, all of mine do this. I don't really know what it is or why but i have been told it is normal.

Our cool front ended, it was 105 still at 5 pm. We still have the top to do but ran out of steam. Got everything put up tool wise and a bad storm hit bringing 70 mile an hour winds. We got the tail of it here so all is good and we will be back at it Tuesday as tomorrow is vet day for Bubba and a weight check for Oliver. Fingers and toes crossed he is still gaining or maintaining! Gabby was really cranky today and Pat is sporting 2 bandaids as proof! He got less battered building her avairy than holding her! Both bites were when he tried to set her down, she wouldn't let go. Even flipped herself over to keep from stepping off! I shouldn't laugh at him but he took her both times to her home explaining time out to her. When she bit me he would just baby talk to her asking why she bit! Lol We have a mutual respect now, i can pick her up, feed her even move her when i need to, just nothing more right now. -
I am sorry to hear Sunny has lost some weight. Just stay positive, i believe he will be just fine, he has you looking after him!!

Yepper, misters it will be and we are thinking about bannana leaves under the misters to make some rain drops and water trickels. We got the frame work up today so tomorrow is the extra supports and the welded wire. Hubby did a great job, he designed it around a tree! We are trying to figure out a way to add some flat flagstone in there for Gabby. Thinking just a pedistool with it on top but who knows! She was talking up a storm today, sentences and phrases in two voices one being a little girls voice saying "do it again". It was so cute when she said that, Pat had her in his arms kissing her down the back. She came to me tonight too, both Pat and i got so excited, then that ended when i put my hand out to her and she bit my finger drawing blood...again! Lol I will post some pictures tomorrow when we finish their avairy! -

Cool front moved in, only going to get to 98 today so we are starting the grey's aviary! Gabby is adjusting very well to her new home here, me, i'm still trying to bird proof for a flying bird. Every day she points out something new i missed! I am now decorating my home with things that have lids! She hates perches so flat surfaces are in trouble! Her manly hellos don't scare me in the mornings anymore, just throw me off guard every now and then. She talks a lot but so softly i can't catch what she is saying all the time! Oh and loves baths, yeah, now i just have 3 to fight that with and not 4! Lol -
Many moons ago we had an umbrella, Oscar. I really think that between my husband and myself we are ignorant of the "rules" and just do stuff. If they bite us to hard, we wait and try again later. If we didn't force the touching on Bongo, every day and in just short bursts, i think i would still be waiting on him to make the first move. My opinion only here but by waiting for them, they are training us. How do they know if they like it or not if we never try? It is a trust building moment when i, lets say, try to go under Bongos wing and he doesn't understand it. He goes to nip at me but i do it anyway. He will one, bite me harder saying no and i stop and tell him it is okay, or two, lift his wing up and tell me ahhh, i like that, do it more. Either way, we end on him getting his way and on a high note, he trusts us now and comes to me for the pets and tickles! The macaws actually do lead the way with us, i was carrying Bubba from his room to the stand and as we walked he leaned back, i said okay, here is my chance and just rolled my arm over, we went the rest of the way with him upside down and he loved it. He is a natural leaner so with time until he was okay with it we just tried each time, now he trusts us that if he isn't ready we won't force it on him but will keep offering. ( i am sporting a fat lip right now from Bubba but no pain no gain. :-) ) I have doubted myself many times after reading the, let them be and adjust to their new home, and let them build the trust with you, this could take years... I wondered if i was screwing up my birds. But in the end, they are thriving now and are well behaved and love learning and new experiences. ( okay, Gabby needs some help but we just got her Sunday so, lol )

Yeah!! I am so excited for you both! What a wonderful, exciting start to the rest of your lives!

Oh do i understand, for us its the dogs, just two of em now though since Gabby moved in. She bit one of em on the ear and the the other musta saw cuz now its just one chihuahua and the blind min pin who beg us for food now. If we drop something they grab it and run!
-
You will gain that weight no problem! Tell your rom you are just cutting back for the flight to meet us, all your friends!!

Rainbows are so pretty, i love watching them! I flew onto moms shoulder on accident, she was doing dishes and i like helping in the kitchen when they let me in there. I clean the counters off for them, they laughed when i did this and i am not sure why. After, mom got out her favorite thing, i think she calls it a broom, and got everything up i put on the floor. I was decorating for her and she just swept it up, gesh. I fly to daddy all the time now too, i will just hoover over him until he puts his arm out unless i got a clean landing on his shoulder, it makes him so happy. I really think i like my new home. I know i love my new dad and must tolerate the lady, but i think i can do that. But when i see my dad come home boy i get so excited i start making grunting noises and roll onto my back and tell him "come on"! The other birds just stare at me when i do this but i don't care, he comes right to me! My last family thought i only knew how to say hello and gabby, but i am letting these guys hear alot more, i am even starting to whistle with Bongo when he wants to play that game, we take turns.

Scheduled Bubba an appointment with the vet on Monday. I want his crop checked out, he has really sweet smelling breath too. Previous owner said he was just in heat but... I need to hear it from the vet. She said her vet said his crop may have been burned as a baby causing the odd shape making him look weird. He let me flip him upside down today! Scary when he was ready to get back up, that beak is sharp and strong! Lol Also Oliver said Bubba today! Lots of firsts, great day!

Takes over is the truth! I really got to get use to a flighted fid. I was enjoying cheese puffs while picking up around the house, made the booboo of leaving the bag on the table so Gabby took full advantage of it and went right in the bag muching out. I replaced the puffs bag with a bag of broccoli, heehee, she pulled it all out nibbling along the way while she searched for the cheese puffs inside! She managed to push my tile coasters off the table breaking one, chewed the wood on my coffee table and i couldn't find the remote! She is a little stinker!! (i found the remote, doh, i had put it in my pocket after i got it away from her) -
Yeah! No one here flys like i can. Bongo tries but he is new to it still. This is funny, mom and dad thought they had bird proofed the house, i am showing them how much they missed! Nothing is safe with me here. They hid my remotes darn it, they put something else there though, i pushed it off the table. If i can't have my remote they can't have their stuff. Thats how i roll!

I got her a boing and uncoiled it, that way it reached from side to side, then put another one in for her to play with and get to the top. Along with wood perches and the sand perch and a rope one. Still looking into the flagstone perch. As for a stand, hubby is going to make one out of the grapevine (reptile habitat) and attach it to a bottom tray off center so she can choose if she wants to perch. All the tabletop ones are centered so they wouldn't really work for her. She is a handful and i found out to not use a cell phone around her. She wants it and will bite thru your arm to get it. She had about a 30 minute chat session with herself yesterday too. I heard, hello, hello Gabby, Gabs, hello Gabs, peek a boo and my fav, gaaaaa-beeeeee. She said way more but she is so soft spoken i couldn't make it out. -
Those things use to scare me too, but not anymore. Mom can use that wand thing inside my cage now with me in it! Hi all, i'm Gabby. Bongo may not be ascared of that loud thing but he sure ran away when i came just now. Me? I have no fear of anything. My new family is finding this out quickly. I tore into their mail tonight, you would of thought i had to pay those bills! Ha! Then the lady tried to use her cell phone without sharing it with me! Well i let her know that just wouldn't work for me. I ran to get it, she moved it so i bit her on the arm. She didn't say anything but i am pretty sure she wasn't to impressed. I was, i left her a big blood blister. I saw Bubba bite her on the lip, he was just kissing her but he got excited. She already had a band aid on from me earlier. I guess this just isn't her day! Bwahahaha!

It is a good cage, the picture is deceiving though. It has height but she could reach from one side to the other and couldn't open one wing without it hitting the side. With her leg, she has her wings out often for balance. Her new cage has a top door that folds down so she has a resting spot when she needs to lay/squat down. For a 20yr old, this girl has more energy than any one. The breeder didn't need another cage, lol, i asked. A friend of mine with a quaker did so she came and got it last night. She gets her bum leg talons stuck alot when she climbs, Pat had to help her out yesterday in the aviary. It got us thinking about the flagstone perches, Bird on the Rocks. Anyone ever use them? We have a stand for her for the daytime but she would rather be on a flat surface, not sure what to do there. Each time i set her on the stand, she would fly to the kitchen table. -
Yeah on the job! I do hope you come thru so we can all meet!
