  1. Mine have a perch in the shower, mostly steam for Oliver but i do turn the heat of the water down and spray them before i get out. I am steaming only during the cold, don't soak because of that blast of cold when the door opens. They get misted in the warm spots in the house! Each has a temp they like. Oliver and Bubba, very warm water, Gabby likes room temp to cool, Gus likes room temp, Bongo HATES water period!
  2. Currency: pasta, raw or cooked ( wacky mac or shells are a fav) cantaloupe is a no brainer for Bongo, he will really go gaga for it!
  3. I hope it works for you. We pretty much know their triggers, but with 5 i sometimes get them confused! Lol And they will throw a new one at ya every now and then to keep you on your toes!
  4. Gesh, after my excitement of Oliver saying bye, in my rush to tell ya'll i forgot or ignored the fact that Gabby HATES electronics. She kept attacking my tablet. I put it up but it was too late, the mood was set. Pat came in and she got sweet again and came to me and wanted up my arm. I should have know right then somthing was up but all i could think was "she wants me, she is coming to me!" She promptly ran up my arm and took a huge bite out of the back of my neck! After that, i guess she thought i had learned my lesson on electronics being around her. She went to time out for a few minutes and came out sweet as pie. My first bad Gabby bite was because of the cell phone and it left a scar, i am glad i can't see this last one it feels huge and even the next day its burning! For some reason when a macaw bites, its like hitting your thumb with a hammer, little throbbing and its done, when Gabby bites, it is like ear piercing. It hurts when they do it, then the pain lasts for days!
  5. Bongo enjoyed the perking, the others couldn't hear it over their chattering! I gotta brag on Oliver a bit, he said bye to us tonight. We thought it was Bubba until they said it at the same time! Macaws in stereo!
  6. After almost one year with Bongo, i can just now touch his back. The head he lets me pet but only for a second, then he turns and nips. There was a while when he loved having his head rubbed but only lasted a few weeks. They are a breed that knows what they want, when they want it. Right now he is going thru a stage of "open my cage door, i will come out when i am ready and then i will call you to bring me out to my stand when i am ready. Not before then or i will growl and click and lunge at you to bite!" I respect his choice, plus i like my hand without holes! Lol To top it off, he can fly but chooses to call his servent for room moves! It will happen for you, just respect his choices and he will begin to respect and trust you in return!
  7. That toy is what brought me to join this forum! My guy wouldn't play with anything until i found that thread and made him one! Almost one year later and he still loves his straws. Whats nice is if he starts getting bored with it, just change out the straw colors!
  8. Congrats to you! They are both cuties! You are in for such a wonderful change in your life with a grey, get your rest now and read read read. There are many great threads on here and if you don't see what you are looking for just ask, there are so many on here that have experienced it all, your question is sure to be answered!
  9. Lol, yup! We have more pellets on the floor than in the bowls! Lucky my chihuahuas love them! It is the nut blend so they think its peanut butter!
  10. Heeheee, airport, i was thinking more of non stop jackhammers! Our kitchen stove area is the only area that our guy can't see me. Yesterday my hubby asked what his issue is with the kitchen that makes him scream. I told him to go to Gus's area and see for himself. Lol all he said was "ahhh". Bubba, a macaw, has learned the too scream all to well, he is loud in his own right but add a mimicked scream and oh boy, joy joy!
  11. It has been a long time since we just sat on the couch and did nothing all day but today we did! Bongo and Gus were with me, one on my lap and one on my arm. The macaws were playing on the back of the love seat, Pat and Gabby kinda just bounced back and forth. It was so nice to just relax with the fids.

    To all

Merry Christmas! May it bring everything you asked for!
  13. Ahh, how the tides have changed. Bubba bit Pat again, right on the base of his thumb nail. He was talking and carrying him walking past Oliver and Bubba wanted to stop and play, Pat didn't get the hint so...chomp! We had our neighbor over, who has the scarlet i talk about, he was freaking out about it, we just were like "oh well, it happens". After he left Pat said he was kinda proud of his scars from bites and there is a story for each one. They don't bite for no reason, each is a lesson he is proud to have learned from. Okay, he had drank a few beers by that time, but waking up and thinking about it, its true! We can't learn if we don't ever try! This guy was complaining about a quaker pooping on him, really? Ever seen a greys bomb in the morning? Lol
  14. Lol, read the directions completly before mixing it! Mine got a mud spray! :-) There is a measure spoon in the jar, mine was at the bottom, didn't know it was there until it was too late.
  15. Arggg, rescheduled yet again. It has been crazy around here. If they had appointments at midnight there would be no issues. His appointment was at noon and an emergency came in and they pushed it to 3. I couldn't do 3 so we are just going to wait now until they slow down! Oliver is really starting to copy Bubba now, it is so cute to see him watching Bubba then trying to do what he does, raising his wings or mumbling. Not that this is a good thing but Bubba got startled yesterday when Gabby did a fly by over his head, we are still laughing behind his back. The macaws were playing on the back of the couch, Pat was with Gus beside the couch and Gabby wanted to be with Pat. She flew over the boys and scared Bubba who looked up at her and said "f****k", really slow and drawn out. Just like a reaction any person would have had. That is the third time now he has used that word, we tried to cover it by saying stuff like Bubba had to duck? Once we were outside though, we were laughing until tears were flowing! No one can convince me they are mimicing the words, he knew what he felt when he said that!
  16. Lol, i believe that! My other babies are more tired than he is though. I have heard Bubba tell him to shut up a time or two, Oliver yells back at him. Bubba however has learned the scream so now i have them both screaming from different rooms! My poor poor greys have headaches, i'm sure! Being he was locked in his cage for the last year, he has tasted freedom and the screams start when bedtime rolls around. He does not want to go to bed, he is just happy happy happy on his stand where he can see me! Bedtime is 8 pm, i wake them around 7:30 - 8 am. (they go to bed at 8, i go to bed at 8:01!)
  17. Ahhh, his hormones are raging. No other way to say this so i will just be blunt. The little boy keeps trying to hump me. We had a shoulder free day yesterday, every time he would climb on my arm (step up is getting better but he still steps up backwards ) i would hold his feet so he couldn't climb up and he did great. The screams were even very few also. We decided to let him stay out and eat dinner on his stand so the others could eat in peace, things went great. All the fids were chatting away and whistling and Gus was quiet and content. He had some dinner with me and then we cuddled. He walked around the couch and his first attempt to mate was with my head, i moved him quickly and sat up, next was my leg then my arm then my chest he wouldn't give up so bedtime it was! Looking back he was a sweetheart until he claimed me as his, thats when he started getting brazen, lol. I have changed my petting behaviour, the shoulder issue and the regurging he tries to do on me, maybe he will get past this and be sweet all the time again!
  18. Vet day! How silly that i am actually excited about taking Oliver in today! Lol. I just want the vet to see how great he is doing now. I am not excited about the nail trim though. They cut Bubbas so much shorter last time he keeps slipping off his stand, over the weekend he fell atleast 4 times. Oliver can't afford to slip off of anything. Lol
  19. Honeymoons over. He is starting to be not as co operative as he was. Lol The cute little harness he wore, nope, no more. The screaming has begun when he can not see me but thats only when Pat is home or bedtime. He is really afraid of Pat, i am sure it is just men in general but gesh Pat has a lot of work to do lol. I know Pat just wants to show Gus how much he loves him and would never hurt him, it is just breaking Pats heart not to be able too though. I know how he feels though because i go through it with Bubba and Gabby. Well, Bubba is fickle cuz now he nips Pat and i can handle him again! I got a nip by Gus yesterday, not even bad but still a nip. My fault completely though. I have a mini chopper and was chopping up veggies to add to their rice for dinner, broccoli, kale and carrots, yummm lol. He didn't like the chopping and i thought i knew that but Pat was beside me and he started screaming. I was telling him that i had to use it but would be done soon, Pat said it was him being there not the chopper ( its the one that you use your hand to smack the blades down, in a jar ) He was screaming so i went and picked him up, he ran right up my arm, almost on top of my head but got really sweet so i just went about normal finishing the dinner, one smack and down came his beak, grabbed the top of my ear. Flashbacks from the lady we got him from, i knew my ear was going to be gone, lol. He just warned me thank heavens but did however give me a good reminder to be more consistant about the shoulder thing. Most of the time i remove him from my shoulder when he gets up there but then there are just times its so much easier to have use of both hands. I am reminded now that no matter how easy it may be at that moment, one wrong move and blood could be drawn, nothing is harder than damage and pain and blood so i can't put us in that position!
  20. Heehee, that is great! Lets see, we did things real slow. Put up half the tree (the whole tree wouldn't fit this year with the added stands), then the next week added the lights and then last Monday put the ribbon and 4 boxes of balls that were old and fading just in case. Gabby helped with the balls by just looking at me if she wasn't happy where i was hanging it or bobbing her head up and down if she liked it. Something tells me, she has done this a few times! Only lost one ball so far that met its demise by a dog tail. Lol Sinse this is our first with them all, i am only putting out what i am ok with losing. Gabby did pull over a glass candle holder and tossed it to the floor which really upset my hubby, until he realized i wasn't upset at all. Can't use candles anymore so why bother with the holders! Lol
  21. Man can Gus fly! Lol Pat had his black jacket on again and he doesn't like it at all! I was brought to happy tears last night though. Gus went to Pat and they got to get to know each other, i was outside watching through the window so Gus wouldn't see me. Pat just talked to him and Gus was listening so hard, cocking his head back and forth. Then with Gus, he started getting the 4 food bowls ready for the dogs. Gabby loves to help with this too. So there is Pat, cockatoo on his shoulder, four dogs around his feet, 2 playing macaws behind him on the couch and Gabby pulling the dog food out of the bowl faster than he can put it in and the whole time he is smiling and talking to them all, even tried to get Bongo to join in! Seeing that i think i would have been overwhelmed, but he was loving it and it showed!
  22. How cute she is! Oliver is rescheduled for his appt on Monday at noon! I told Pat that Bubba must be getting ill again, he is letting me pet him again and play with him, lol. Since he does lalalalala so well, i am adding the fa in front of it and singing the whole song. Last night he was doing his best to sing it back to me, the sweetest thing ever! We played peek a boo, wheres Bubba? and got your nose! I get so excited when he likes me and isn't striking at me! Lol
  23. Lol, be careful, thats how i ended up with 3 of my 4 dogs! One was someone asked us to keep their dog over the weekend, 5 years later she is still here! Thats one hell of a weekend if you ask me! Actually, she was taken (stolen) out of a back yard where the owner had her chained to a tree without food or water during a winter sleet storm with a litter of pups. A neighbor couldn't take seeing that and hopped the fence and got her and the pups. All the pups were homed right away but mom wasn't and they didn't want the neighbor to know they took her so she was staying with us until a home was found. I think they never looked, it was my hubbys sister!
  24. It sounds like you are off to a great start with her! I'm sure she will be wanting comfort food soon so be ready for some crying from her, lol. One of mine is 5 yrs old and still demands food warm and spoon fed! Its fine though because it will help in the future if meds ever need to be given. I have 2 greys, 2 blue and gold macaws and a umbrella cockatoo. Your journey has just begun and there will be ups and downs, just take it one day at a time and enjoy. Like kids, they grow up so fast! Ha, the weather here is weird, Sunday we started in shorts around 70, then by 3 in the afternoon in the low 30's. Since then we have been freezing temps in the evenings but 60-70 during the day. Suprised we are all not sick!
  25. Stress is natural! Relax and know your on grey time now! Tell us about Rosie and how she came to you! Pictures are always welcome!
