  1. I need to get one! So the throw up was a regurg. Then tonight he was banging my collar bone again so i tried to move him and half on my arm he started humping it!! I don't even know what to say about that. Lol
  2. Well Gabby calls Pat Howard so i guess my name Bubba chose isn't too bad, lol, with his potty mouth i could here it now! Oliver did scare us so we moved him to a lower stand then covered the bottom with yoga mats and put it where each side kinda hangs over the couch to deflect him if need be.
  3. I am going to try and find the baby sling for him! Boy does he watch me lock up the cage, i expect him to be kicked back in the livingroom watching lifetime movies and drinking and eating bonbons when i come home from work real soon! He was already on the bottom trying to push out the tray. Had to put the grate in darn it, I hate cleaning grates! Lol
  4. Bubba has been doing great. Even with Gus entering the picture. Bad thing, lol, only took him a few cockatoo screams to learn it and copy it. Good thing, the new scream is not as loud as his regular scream! Lol He is not in the same room as Gus but is telling him hello, i think he will be saying Gus's name before mine. I am resigning to the fact i will always be "pptthhhh, hahaha" to him. He was with us in the kitchen last night, Pat was holding him and he kept saying pptthhhh and Pat asked what he wanted, it hit me that he was calling me so i answered him. It was like he thought, finally lady, so he said it again and then laughed and went back to playing.
  5. We have so much fun! The guys (and girl) are ready to play when we get home so we do! It isn't hard to keep up with them all because i have great support with Pat. We each have our duties and help each other when we need to! We have systems that we adjust each day to accomidate. Gus is trying so hard to step up, but he always seems to end up with a leg on each side of my arm! First time he did that i thought he was trying to hump my arm. He did give me a little step up though after his dinner. I went bring him out when we were having our dinner and with just a little nudging he stepped up backwards and wouldn't let go of the bars of the cage but it is a good start. During our play time, he started hitting his beak against my collarbone like he did with a toy earlier so i let him do it. Then he threw up on me. Lol He also flew today, away from Pat when he walked in the room. I was told he flies very well, lol.
  6. I forgot the pictures, doh! Some i posted on the intro thread but the one of him eating butternut squash was from last night. I was told he has never had that and she hoped he would eat it! Ha, he dove right into it. Could have been that i was spoon feeding them all though cuz when i put it in their dinner bowls they didn't touch it, just the spinach lasagna. I am very lucky to have a husband who feels as i do with our children! We are able to incorporate each into our daily activities. Bongo cooks with me while Pat plays with the macaws, then he brings them into kitchen area and they help me cook. Gabby, well she is everywhere all the time! I can't say i always get direct one on one time with the macaws but during our cooking we dance and sing, get a few pets inbetween and lots of samples of dinner! Gus will be a challange to bring out since he is so fearful but i know in time he will gain his courage and join in the fun! He needs to learn to stand on my arm though, he has only clung to my chest, like in the photos. Lol That could make cooking a little hard!
  7. Gus has come to us after two families that I am aware of. His first family did not treat him well and he was poked at with sticks and the cage was hit with brooms and a mop to get him to hush. Fed nothing but sunflower seeds that you would buy from store for the outdoor birds. He was brought to his next home two years ago, he is 5-6 years old. She works a pug rescue from her home and has chickens, horses and to many other pets to even try and list. She sells fresh eggs and the owners of Gus just brought him to her one day and left. Traded him for a few cases of eggs. He by right has a fear of sticks, which included perches so she had a heck of a time getting him from his small cage to the bigger one she got him. She couldn't sweep or mop anywhere within his sight but slowly got him past that. About one year into his new home, she had a family get together and had Gus outside so he wouldn't stress with all the people over. Her grandson brought him in to show him off and put him on the floor. He started to panic so went to pick him up, he darted up her arm and bit her ear. From that day forward, one year later, she was afraid of him and he has been in the cage. His diet today is a little better but he eats funny. I have seen baby parakeets take bigger bites than he does, lol. He does not know how to step up or really what to do with himself. He will not come out of his cage unless i pick him up. He thrashes about when Pat even gets near the room he is in right now. We have plenty to work on but he is worth every minute. The rest of my flock has no problem with him except for Oliver who is demanding Gus know that he is top bird in this house. The only birds that are allowed to perch together are my greys, ( not that they do, Gabby is usually flying around and only gets on her stand to eat and drink ) the macaws each have their own stands as will Gus when he is ready. They can see but can't touch, lol. Right now Gus is seperated from the rest but little visits are done with each from afar.
  8. I am not a fan of any bird on my shoulder, i have grown fond of my eyes, ears and nose! When she got bit she was picking him up from the floor where her grandson had put him down when her house was full of people. He started panicing and ran up her arm and got her. Thats why i said she didn't blame him for the bite it just scared her. An umbrella was our first big bird many moons ago so it is really comfortable with him! We have many challanges ahead as he is not trained to step up and even the perches scare him as he was poked with sticks from his first family. The lady i got him from said she tried to lessen his fear of them but could not do much more. He has attached himself to me and trusts me to handle him but flips out if my husband gets near him. I am going to start a thread with his progress in the other birds room, but here is a picture of us tonight! Just one day, my Guster just wanted someone to love him and who he can love back!
  9. He sure will be velco. Last night was his first night here and he already is showing so much personality. He is so use to being in his cage we thought that would be his comfort area so we just let him relax. He wanted out to me so bad, lifting his little foot up, so i opened the door to see if i could pet him. He bolted out, hanging on the door with his back to me and stuck out his foot for a step up so i put my arm there for him and he put his foot on my arm but wouldn't take his other foot off the cage, then leaned back into me. I got to love him from the top of his head to almost the tip of his toes. Bringing Gus home took all of 2 hours. Spoke with the woman at 5pm, heard Gus's sad story and the "wish we could take him" words that i had planned on saying turned into " when can we meet Gus" and we were at her home by 6 and home with him at 7:30. Such a whirlewind, we had just broken down our extra cage Sunday and also our metal stand!
  10. I enjoyed the Thanksgiving with a parrot thread that Dave wrote and Dan reposted so much that while cooking and living the thread, i sent it to my mother in law. She enjoyed it so much she sent it to her list of friends. Then it happened, i somehow received an email from one of her friends asking it we wanted another.... No, we didn't think so. So i called the lady who said that the bird bit her ear over a year ago and she has been so afraid of him she doesn't let him out of the cage. She didn't blame the bird for the bite but couldn't get past the fear. Lord love a duck... Meet Gus...
  11. Welcome! What a fun looking family you have!
  12. I totally agree with the height thing. It has only been one day but even Bubba seems to have mellowed out, like he isn't top dog anymore and so he seems less aggressive, and Oliver, just seems content again.
  13. Boy, if birds can smile was Oliver doing it! We got his double macaw cage yesterday, cleaned it and set it up and let him see it. He climbed to the top, cocked his head from side to side looking in it then took off and went inside. Climbed around it, sat on every perch but one then went to his dinner bowl, which was empty, ( i had been a bit busy to cook ) and smacked his beak all around the bowl! After looking at me then his empty bowl, then back at me he went to his pellets and chowed down! We may have harmony for a little bit now that the boys are on equal ground again! One not higher than the other, Bubba was even nice to me last night.
  14. If i were to guess about my guys in the wild i would say they all have servents. "fetch my dinner", "i'm ready for my bath now", "scratch me here, nooooo, not there", " feed me grapes, and they better be peeled this time".
  15. Oh be careful what you wish for! Lol He's a flying fool. My poor husband can't even pick him up if i am in sight of Bongo, as soon as Pat even starts to walk toward him, off he goes flying to me. I did find that the massive cooking yesterday proved to be very stressfull. It could have been less worrysome if just put them in their cages but since we were not going to be home, i didn't think it would be fair to them. Everytime i opened the oven, i had my husband stand behind me and keep an eye out just in case. There were no incidents but there were a few flights that had to be intercepted before hitting the stovetop. (not that i had anything on the stove, just trying to train him not to go there for the future, it isn't working however. )
  16. Congrats to you and Leo! You are doing a wonderful thing and will be rewarded 2 fold in time. I was able to move my rehomed boy right into his new cage but others had to put their old cage by the new one and let them choose when they wanted to move in. Each bird is different and what works for one may not for another so take your time and don't give up! As far as food goes, the best advice i ever got was this: what they hate one day, they may like the next so keep offering all the good stuff.
  17. Welcome! 4 is not old at all as Ray said, and he will come around! Your life as you know it is about to change, for the better of course!
  18. Stinker, stinker, stinker! He wanted a bite of my turkey sandwhich last night so i offered it to him. He took a bite, spit it out and tried to bite my hand holding the sandwhich. I went ahead and made them a feast of all the left overs, PAT put him in his cage and i put the bowl in for him, he went to it buried his face in and repeated yum until i walked out of the room! Oh is he spoiled! Oliver took a fall off his stand yesterday. Typical Murphys law. I have padding all under his stand, except on area that he never stands over. Guess where he fell? Yep, right there, down the wall, edge of the stand and onto the tile floor. He has scrapes over his nose and over his eye into his head feathers!
  19. Congrats! I personally would start now letting him get to know you. Have his owners bring him to your house for visits if they can, then in a few weeks maybe have him spend the weekend with you. He will probably still be in a shocked state when you get him full time but atleast everything won't be new and scary.
  20. Turkeys been cooking since 5 am and Bongo only hit my stuffing once! Shhhh, don't tell anyone, it is going to my inlaws! Hope everyone has a wonder day!
  21. Yeah, he just drops whatever it is i hand him. Including pecans which he adores, i guess he adores the taste of my skin even more.
  22. Okay so tonight i picked him up to bring him into the kitchen with the rest of us (fids) and he bit me, so i rolled my arm. He did a complete 360 and laughed. I don't want to make a game of this!!, but atleast there was no blood this time. I really don't know what to do to correct this.
  23. I am going to have to test this act of aggression towrd me. I was in the hall putting the baby gate up and he came down that cage wings spread, mouth open just inches from my head. His action didn't scare me, just him being there scared me bc i didn't expect that and i went flat againt the wall. Well that didn't help things between us because my fast movement scared him! But then i thought, he had every chance to hurt me because i didn't even know he was there, but he didn't. Is he trying to play with me? He doesn't play that way with Pat but.... Frustrating!
