    Sick Baby

Oh Muse, I am so sorry for your loss. I know the love you shared with him is, and will always be, strong and he will forever be in your heart. Just as the two of you will be in mine.
  2. Good news! Yeah's to you both for enduring!!
  3. That is such a great picture and caption!
  4. That is funny from afar! Gabby does it too and Pat just asked me as we walked outside if there was anything I cared about in the kitchen. I also keep a chicken toy that Gabs is afraid of on the counters, it detours her somewhat. Lol So just came in and she was on the other counter throwing a spoon and coffee over the side. Good times I tell ya. Doesn't she know how expensive those coffee pods are for goodness sake!
  5. I have three greys, two talk ( one of the ALL the time ) my third guy, in two years has said step up once and his name twice, he chooses to whistle. I agree with Nancy, he is always studying us and everything around him. The others just fly by the seat of their pants and could care less of their surroundings, but Bongo notices everything. Food, water and a trip to the back door every hour so Cotay can ask us if we "wanna go outside and pee pee?" is all they really care about! Oh and a box for Gabby to destroy! Must have box or she will find something else to destroy, like anything on my counters (including legal paperwork that i don't think i can replace! lol

    Sick Baby

As far as how, I have no clue but I have been through this with our macaw. He had such a bad infection when we brought him home, his nose was packed shut and his breathing was so labored i feared he wouldn't make it to the vet in the morning. After several rounds of antibiotics and the vet even putting him to sleep a few times to try and clear his nose out, he did not get better. This was between 2 avain vets (same office) I finally went to a third vet at a new location about 1 month into it and he stopped all meds and said to take him in the shower with us and to get an eye dropper and squirt the water into his nose to keep it moist so he would sneeze the gunk out. That is what worked. I did the humidifier thing this winter, but stopped using it last week for the fear of just what you said. I cleaned it daily but still, i wasn't about to take any chances. It is a tough one to go through and I hope to never have to do it again. Best wishes for you both!!
  7. Thank you all! Bongo must have known it was his special day. We would sing happy birthday and he would just start dancing and bobbing and chime in with the Andy Griffith theme whistle!
  8. Confused on how long but today is the day! LOL We thought 3 years with us but looking back at dates on here it looks like his 2nd year. Either way, he is my extra special boy and I am wishing him an extra special day to match! I still get misty eyed that he found his way to me!
  9. Not that we give the guys bad food, but Pat tried giving her a cheese puff and she even snubbed it. lol Carrots, beans, pasta, rice, beets all that healthy stuff gets not even a little tongue taste. She just turns her head. I don't know what kind of moon we had yesterday but the birds, and i mean all the birds at the same time, were quiet. No loud squaking when we put them up for dinner, no loud noises when they finished eating. Just the sound of the greys chatting and whistling. Even with lights out, no Too screaming. (Gus and Lilly both do a few screams then the macaws yell back at them) Nothing but a calm normal evening of how we wish it were all the time. Ha, my fear is that they were resting for today... :-)
  10. Since he is new to your home, he needs some time to trust you. You may be moving to quick for him and expecting to much too soon. Do the step up as Dave suggested and start building that trust up! Keep it fun for the both of you. As far as getting him back into the cage, there are many tricks people use to lure them back inside. For us, they are out most of the day so we feed them their dinner in the cage and when i start cooking they know what time it is and are more than ready to go back home! I remember a thread on this site about the same thing, i can not remember who it was but their bird would fly to the highest place it could at bed time and they would be climbing onto furniture to reach them. There were alot of suggestions there, try searching for it.
  11. Heehee, this is driving hubby crazy trying to figure the Too's out. They will not even tolerate being near each other. Gus flys away if she gets close, but since they do share a double macaw cage with the seperater, and we have seen them cuddle beak to beak and even pass almonds through the bars to each other, it is really bothering Pat that he can not figure them out! Gus has been near every bird and tolerates them all except Bubba, shared stands with them even, but Lilly, no way! Every night now for a week after we put them all to bed he says " I don't get it! I can not figure them out!" So i think this weekend we are doing yet another cage swapping. The greys back into the double and the Too's will each get their own cage. My poor greys, at least they are okay with changes like this. Friday is Bongo's 3rd year with us and it is his 5th cage. In 25 years i don't think i have had that many couches! lol
  12. Welcome and congrats!! Be ready for a wonderful new life style! These guys will keep you on your toes, and from new parronts to those who have been living with parrots for years, we keep learning new things from each other all the time. So, if you have a questions just ask! Can not wait to see some pictures! ( easy way to post those are by youtube or photo bucket links or whatever you may use, that you can just copy and paste. ) Have you picked a name yet for your little guy?
  13. There is never a right answer when asked if they will get along with each other. I have 7 now, 3 greys, 2 macaws and 2 U-Too's. The only two that like each other are the macaws and they can perch together but limited time only. The rest would rather be "only" birds so we spend much time each day giving one on one attention to each. What you have to be ready for is the addtional time this will take on your part. I am lucky that i can have them all out at the same time but they also each have their own space. I have 2 neighbors who also have multipule birds and theirs can not be out at the same time at all what so ever. They get really upset with us when we can not tell them why our flock is different, it is just luck. You have to get a second ( or 3rd or 4th, lol) bird for yourself, not for your other bird. But be ready for that extra time and work involved. :-)
  14. I have also spent time in Ohio, Upper Sandusky, but it has been years. So, what is the update? Is there a baby in waiting? I can not wait to hear all about it!
  15. No reason not to believe you! Your little miss is a smarty pants, lol. I feel the same that she is in her happy place at home and at her age is just trying to get her way. I would keep doing what you have been and she will, in time, cave so to speak. She is in her terrible twos after all. :-) Feeling her oats, testing the waters and her bounderies.
  16. So many ways those bricks could be used, we women are pretty darn creative! I love that ad but the first thing i thought of is that my hubby would be posting that for me. I only have 3 that love me, but they still tolerate Pat. His fids love him and really dislike me! LOL
  17. Gabby laid an egg, can't get more visual that. LOL
  18. Mine run all day and night. I have it set at 74 in the birds room. It is the infrared heater, i love it!
  19. My biggest challange is getting her to eat something. She eats her pellets and some seed but "food" wise, nothing but an apple slice. I have tried everything i could think of but she is picky as crap. Gus only likes peanut butter so he is also a challange and he flings his pellets and seed out because he likes his bowls empty. It takes me long to feed these guys than to feed me and the hubs! Each bird has their own likes and dislikes so making them dinner takes lots of fore thought. Bubba loves noodles, not pasta, noodles only. Bongo likes shells ( pasta ) and Oliver likes wacky mac best. Gabby is my snap pea queen and Cotay loves crackers and will pass on everything else( she is limited on those because i am pretty sure her last owners just gave them to her all the time ). Lilly gets an apple slice and Gus will get some peanut butter. All of their choices get placed in experimental dinners each night until we can find something they all agree on! Wears me out! Scrambled eggs use to be a hit but that has faded.
  20. They love it, no doubt about it. The three greys use to share it but Cotay has officially run Gabby off and she now has a t-stand so she has a place for food and water, she usually is flying everywhere and getting into everything anyway so it wasn't a big deal. We got the swings at a bird show and they were supposed to go in their cages but to get them out of the way, hubby hung one and so the ideas started flowing. It will always be a stand in the making because we seem to keep adding to it, lol. It is nice though because we have the same swing over the sink for Bongo when we are prepping for dinner, he is my little chef in the making or more so my quality control tester. Hard part is keeping the Toos off of it, they see the wood and want to eat it!
  21. Welcome finally, lol. I lurked a while myself before joining. What cutie pie he is, congratulations.
  22. Other than the few and far between Bongo hugs I sneak in, nothing beats a too lovin!
  23. I have given up, i loved her very much right from the begining but she has made me fall in deep love! She is a hugger...
  24. Sorry, i was having trouble doing it the usual way.
