Congratulations to you both. As we have 7 now, we are in the process of making sure that they are cared for. We have a few options but want to make the best decision for them. Ages are from 22 or 23 to 5 or 6. It is tough to make these arrangements but well worth it. I can not wait to hear of your newest adventures!

To answer your question, yes!!! You can relax. Greys thrive and react to our moods, if you are stressed Archie will be stressed. Relax and let nature take its course. I have 2 feather chewers and keeping them occupied with lots to shred helps some. Oops, 3 chewers. Adding paper, cotton mop heads with beads strung on it, phone books, coffee filters oh the things they love to chew. Boings lead the way though and straws come in a close second. Lots of good baths help too. This is a very hard habit to break and do not expect overnight success. So you are aware also, feathers do not come in quickly, one of mine had a very bad wing clip before he came to me, 2 or 3 years ago ( I still can't remember ) and just last week there was a clipped feather on the bottom of his cage. My flock is free to fly so after at least 2 years to find a clipped feather was a shock. As far as being needy, thats a grey to an extent. They want and do demand attention so it is going to be up to you how you react to it. As Nancy said, set your limits and stay true to them because he will test you every step of the way to see what he can get away with!

Welcome to the forum! I have not heard of many greys that do scream, all my guys make noises they have learned from the others, some not so pleasant! lol They can make a low growl noise when mad or scared. I never knew what this growl noise was that everyone talked about until I was steam mopping around one of them and heard it. Gotta say, it scared the crap out of me! Best of times are still to come for you and your new friend, they are life changing! I have 3 greys, and each have their own personality that draw me in and keep me on my toes! (I also have 4 other big boys, macaws and umbrella cockatoos) Where in Texas? I am in the mid-city area.

Oh he does! It is so funny though how each bird has their favorite and how they show it. Bubba will only let me love on him when Pat is holding him, otherwise he sees my fingers as drumsticks. Oliver is my boy and i can just walk by and give him a pet but Pat he will strike at, not to bite but to warn. We still try to alternate birds so they are okay with each of us handling them but some days, they just don't wanna play that way. Since the macaws can't fly, Bubba is near the back door and has this new game to strike at me when i try and go out or if i am letting the dogs out. Well Pat calles it a game, i call it "I ain't going near the back door, YOU let the dogs out!"!

He is a cutie! I didn't see any warning, he seemed quite happy and looked ready to play. Bongo is a fluffer when he gets content, also tucks a foot so i guess each one has their own meanings for their actions. I am lucky with Gabby though, she will do that knock sound three times and if my body parts are not moved away by the 3rd knock, i am getting bit. Bongo's warning is a head movement like he is shaking his head no but only once to the side then he about lays flat for attack.( In three years, he has not bit me once. ) Cotay, she just gives me the stink eye and i know it means to step away. ( She bites me every day when i get her out of her cage. )

Well isn't it obvious, there was a sale on almonds and he just wanted to clip that coupon for you! Too bad he couldn't find it again. Kuddo's for trying to save the family some money!

So, i thought i would update Oliver and Bubba. They are now independant birds. Oliver was picking Bubba bald so no more play time together :-( but it is for the better. They each have their own stand now and love being alone on them. We still can not take one out of the room without the other screaming but only time will fix that, we hope. lol Oliver actually attacks Bubba now if they get close, we took them outside this weekend and Oliver climbed off me and made a bee line right for Bubba, eyes pinned in attack mode. Not attacking Bubba but the feathers he now has coming in! They are still a mess and actually picking up new words again. Now who taught Bubba the word what??? I guess it is better than him asking why all the time! Oliver can somewhat say good night now and Bubba says ga-night and I love before lights out, it is just the cutest thing. He still refuses to say my name, i am still "Phthhh", hence him just saying I love instead of i love you or i love Lisa. We assume he is just lazy and saying I love covers everything and everyone and he doesn't feel the need to go into detail about what exactly he loves!

Welcome! What a cute fellow you have! I still struggle to feed a few of mine the veggies and good stuff, but every day i offer it for breakfast and dinner. I thought one day i had finally gotten Lily to eat something but alas, she had just tossed it out. lol My only advise is to keep trying!

Welcome! Roxy is a cutie! I must say i saw your avatar and giggled. There is a thread on here asking about what your dream bird is and your avatar has many of the birds we have mentioned!! lol

If you could get any bird you wanted, what would it be?
murfchck replied to Talon's topic in Other Birds
I willl get a picture of her. The woman we got Lily from (breeder), had every bird you could think of. The hawk head is her baby and selling her is not in the picture right now. She had 2 Hyacinth that she bred, but she sold them to cut back on the abundance of birds she has. They had 2 baby's right before she sold them though and they went for $10,000.00 each so i don't see that in our big picture either! The majority of her birds now are just surrenders that she takes in, Lily being on of them. A fellow breeder friend of hers passed away and she got her birds also so the numbers were out of controll. She sold over 300 birds just to fit them in her home. She keeps adding mobile homes to her house and the birds live in those, they are connected to her house, lol. We add on rooms, she adds on actual homes! lol -

Well you are in luck! Your dream bird is sold at Wal Greens for $9.99, it's called Polly Parrot! Hahaha lol Hands down my dream bird is Hyacinth Macaw! And there is also a Hawk Head that i go visit a few times a month that i am in love with but...Hubby would KILL me! He also wants a Hyacinth though, so if one comes around he would just give me the stink eye for a moment then be as excited as a two year old. -
So i made some baby (bird) formula last night, mixed with a dash of peanutbutter. lol You would have thought Lily had never eaten before. She wouldn't take it from a spoon so i found a syringe and had to do it that way. She assumed the baby bird position and started squeeking and eating. She had it all over her face. I found out i could never hand feed a baby, i have no accuracy. Gus took the syringe away from me and fed himself, not well because he put a hole in it but he tried. Bubba ate a whole bunch and the greys, we just couldn't tell how much they got. They were on Pats shoulder and it seemed to me he had more on his shirt then they got in them. It was a great time with alot of laughing and they got some vitamines to boot!

What a happy looking bunch! I have noticed the eye thing too with my guy. His eyes are big and round and my 2 girls have smaller, squinty eyes. The girls are not fans of me so i always thought they were just giving me the stink eye, but it is really the shape of them! lol Now i know when they are really giving me the stink eye because they turn into slivers.

LOL, Sully is in love!!!

Yeah those 4 legged slobber monsters make weird noises when I get even a little close to their toys.
-
Bongo here~and I know what your mean. My mom keeps stealing stuff that the other fids don't play with and puts them in my cage cuz i keep destroying my stuff. She needs to go shopping for me pretty darn soon, looks like the others are low on toys too! What happens if they run out???
-
That was pretty dang funny! lol
-
He is so lucky, he gets two birthdays this year cuz momma is nuts! Couldn't figure out why my calander did not notify me on his birthday, duh, because it is this coming weekend. Oh well he can afford two birthdays in one year, me however, not so much!

So we bit the bullet and made our first payment on Lily Friday. I guess she knew because sweet little Lily started screaming as soon as i got home from making the payment and then all day Saturday. lol It is like she saw this paper that said "all sales final, no refunds or exchanges" and said to herself, " Now i have got them, bwahahaha". Sunday though was bath day for everyone and they all seemed to calm down. It had been a few weeks since they had a good bath and i guess they were ready because the whole household calmed down. Last night, all three greys were just talking and whistling up a storm. It was just the sweetest sounds. Even the macaws were chatting it up. Bubba with his hellos and Oliver saing Bubba. Gus has also learned how to knock on the door when we go outside. We were sitting out front and kept hearing a perfect knock and couldn't figure it out, finally looked at our own front door and there he was, tapping with his beak and then his foot, couldn't deny him so leash went on and he came out! We also got a laundry basket to put over him so he can run around the floor and we stay safe, like that video. LOL yeah, he hated it and was scared to death. When we took it off, it was like a little kid running to his mom just saying "mama, mama, mama" over and over until he made it to me and buried himself in my neck. He didn't push it, he would pick up and end of it and kinds toss it, then run to where it landed and would do it again. Really kinda funny if it hadn't scared him like it did.

This little boy has come a long way from the day he came to live with us! Happy 2nd year and may we have many, many more! Here is a before and a now picture so you can see what i mean by coming a long way!

I use Living Air. The main one has 4 washable filters. I don't know if they do anything but it hasn't hurt.
