  1. Just went through the same thing with my blue and gold. Worse smell than I can ever remember. I came on the forum in a panic. Lol
  2. I am thirding the cage size. Also I saw that you only have her out for an hour or two and your home most of the day? Let that baby out to play please. Why keep her locked up? Most of us beg for extra time out for them but don't have a stay at home option. Even working my 7 are out 4 + hours each day and outside every chance they get.
  3. That is just fine. We put some bamboo fence over the wire too for them to pick at. Lol
  4. I will say that I have two UToo's and three grey's and there is no comparison. Lol
  5. Oh what a cutie! Welcome and congrats! You are in for the time of your life, enjoy every minute of it!
  6. Funny how the sweetest, cuddliest, most loveable bird are such pests! We can not keep Lilly on her stand anymore. When Gus did this to us, we did a slight wing clip and he stopped for the most part. Of course he was flying at us and biting my neck, she is just flying to the floor, or jumping at me when i walk by with Gus. Solved the jumping by not walking past her with Gus. Last night she whined her way into daddy bringing her into the kitchen with me to help get dinner going, she played so nice. We played with a towel, peek a boo, tug of war and then i got brave and tried to trim her nails. She was an angel and let me, i was shocked! I was so excited about it and Gus is so much calmer than she is i thought, why not give it a try with him. Yeah, he was not about to let me near his toes at all what so ever, so i did his head meds instead, he should have let me trim his toe nails!!! LOL
  7. Oh this Texas weather... Yesterday we were in shorts washing our cars, birds outside soaking up the sun, almost 80 degrees. Today, sleet and snow, what a mess. I am even wondering if work is an option tomorrow. Lilly flew at Gus again today, or Pat who was carrying him. Not sure what is going on, could just be the season. Gus's head looks much better now and he is pretty good about letting us put peroxide on it and the ointment, not great but pretty good. lol
  8. What a wonderful story of how the two of you got together. Congrats on your new guy and his new start on life! It is such a great feeling when they choose you, i know your proud!
  9. I will call and find out, thanks for that cuz i sure didn't of it! Oh putting on the meds was just a grand old time. He did not like it at all. We had a full on attack by Miss Lilly yesterday, nasty bite on my fore arm and not really sure what or why. I am not one that runs from birds but i sure did run and had to lock myself in a room to regain my thoughts. I was bringing them out and getting them settled on the stands and Gus stayed behind to help me collect the breakfast bowls and change waters. I had him on my shoulder and i was carrying the tray out and as we walked past her she flew right at my face, i threw my arm up and she grabbed it and just started chomping away. I put her on the stand and went to the kitchen to set the stuff down and was in the process of getting Gus off and here she came at us again. Since Gus is still on my shoulder there wasn't to much movement i could make in fear of him attacking me also so we ran to the front bedroom, luckily she tripped over the baby gate giving us a little time to get in and shut the door and i set him down, in the meantime Lily was beating on the door screaming. I managed to get her put back on the stand and went back for Gus. Right as we came out she did it again. I got Gus to his stand and bless his heart i said in a stearn voice, "No kidding, step off now" and he did right as she was lunging for my foot. I got her up and went right to her cage with her for a much needed time out. She screamed for 20 minutes before i had the courage to go and get her, but she was just fine after that. I really couldn't tell if she was after me or Gus, but Gus never reacted to her and was very calm on my shoulder. The only thought running through my head was "when good birds attack".
  10. My boy stopped talking when we brought him home. He is 7 now or 8, dates elude me. He said step up on the first day and then just this summer said Bongo Bongo but that is all. My hubby laughs at us because he does use sounds like words and i understand his meaning for them. I will speak the word or words he should use in those cases but he just turns his head sideways and makes the noise again. One day he may say something to me, but if he doesn't i still understand him! Then we have another one who will not stop talking, she speaks alot of Spanish so i don't know what she is saying most of the time, she doesn't care too much for me and the words she chooses to use for me are not nice like, dork, weirdo and just this week i got a "hey stupid". LOL She has taken up with the hubs and when he is around she tells me she loves me... They are such smarty pants!
  11. All went very good with the Dr. yesterday. Gus was not a happy camper, but i was almost in tears because Pat was telling me how great he was treating Gus's injury. Gus had to be held by Pat, the assistant to the doc kept grabbing a towel and telling Pat she needed to hold him and Pat wasn't about to let her. He was very aggitated and would have bit her quicker that sh!t. The doctor finally told the girl to leave the room. The grey area on his head is dead skin and the pink is new skin, duh, now that he says that, yup, thats what it looks like. No infection but he gave us an ointment for it to be on the safe side. When they were done, the assistant came back in and asked about the toe nails, Pat said yeah, he does need a nail trim. The doctor said no way, he was too stressed from the exam and he would not do it to him. I was very glad to hear that. This is a new vet that i think i have talked about before, his name was given to me by the woman who we got most of the birds from and also the breeder where Lilly came from. Get this, the entire visit cost 30 bucks. Not $75 just to walk in the door. He is avian but kinda old, which is scary because i really like him and who knows how much longer he will be working. He does not take appointments after 1pm, it is walk in only and only 3 days a week and Sat till noon.
  12. Congrats on your new baby, her name sure does describe her as she is beautiful! Welcome!
  13. LOL, i was so confused. Tapping him on the head to get him to eat something with a lizard tail, trying to provoke aggression? Oh the thoughts going through my mind when i read that! Ahhh, a snake not a bird. Good chuckle though.
  14. I think Gus knew he was going to the dr. The little stinker wouldn't come out of his cage. I had left work with plenty of time to get him there and by the time i lured him out, i didn't have time to get there before they closed. I am not a good "man handler" so Pat is going to leave work early today and take him. In our house right now, we have Gus with his head injury, my diabetic min-pin Daisy has a ulcer in her eye that we have been treating for going on two weeks, my chihuahua, Holly, is throwing up, Oliver keeps falling off his stand and Bubba is biting his wing bad. That leaves Lilly, Bongo and Cotay, Betty, Abby and the cat with out issues. ( well they have issues, just not medical, lol)
  15. So, not so good on the Too bite. All was going good then his head around the bite turned grey and the rest of his little head was bright pink. Going to the vet today.... It never ends
  16. A day in the life when you have many birds I guess, because other than the names that is a typical day here! Why do bruises take so long to show? Ollie has a big one on his crop/neck area from his fall while he is still recovering from the other fall he took and scraped his keel bone. If someone saw him right now they would call CPS on us. A bald, bruised, cut up bird, it would be hard to see how spoiled he really is! He just gets so excited he starts dancing and flipping out his wings as much as he can and just dances himself off the branch.
  17. You said it, priceless! Thank you for the laugh.
  18. You are alone in your house and hear a old man's voice whisper "hello" in your ear and you hit the floor scared out of your mind! You finally find and purchase that perfect dining room table and notice 2 corners of it are missing before you can get it covered!!!!!!!
  19. All seems fine again in the macaw kingdom, except for Oliver falling on his face yesterday. Bubba pulled a cactus off the mantle and meyham ensued. Ever feel like being stunned and confused, be in our house when a noise happens outside of the ordinary. Cockatoo's and Macaws start screaming so loud walls rumble, sometimes they take flight and the greys always take flight. So you have 4 screaming and 3 flying (sometimes 5 flying), you don't know where to begin to settle things down again. But to make it worse, when you do get it settled and look back at the bird who started it all and swear he was smiling at you, all you can do is throw your arms up in the air and surrender.
  20. What happy news! It is such a great moment for you both!
  21. Yeah, I am when I get home. His poo this morning was normal and since I had my nose darn near in it I guess its safe to say no odor.

    Bubba concern.

So for the past days, Bubba has had some very smelly poo. One morning poo had me gagging for some fresh air. I scrubbed his cage down yesterday, but the smell still lingered and i actually thought maybe an animal died in the wall or outside by the window or something. He is eating fine, lots of pellets when he is on his stand but nothing much when he is in the cage. I did switch from Zupreem Veggie blend to Zupreem Fruit blend, thinking they needed a change but i don't think this would cause the aroma. Then last night when we were putting them up for dinner, he would grab a noodle from his bowl and run to the bottom of the cage to eat it, come up for another bite then right back down. He would shred his paper while down there, so we are confused if we should be worried or if he was just playing down there. My plan is to get him to the vet, but money is a concern right now. I got the birds their own medical credit card but i have not gotten it yet, hopefully it comes in today! ( he gets cysts in his vent that have blocked his pooing and has had a few minor surgeries to remove them, i am just worried they may be back and further up his bum) Pat did get him to take a bath last night and he really enjoyed it, his poo sticks to his feathers, not that it was bad or anything but he thought maybe he was just uncomfortable. Nuts are also a big deal to him but everyone we handed him last night, he tossed out. Finally though, he did take an almond and munch on it. I am sure i am over reacting but he is my baby boy.
  23. Beautiful day yesterday, thought we would put them out for some much needed sunshine. It was Lilly's first time out and since her and Gus had been doing so well together we put them in the same aviary. BIG mistake, she got very excited and started a fight with Gus who is much larger than she is. Gus lost and has a few less head feathers, a small cut over his eye and a beak hole in his head. Had to pull a blood feather that was broken on his crown. Needless to say, that won't be happening again. Gus is good and all cleaned up but I know he will be hurting today because i have first hand experience with a Too bite and they hurt for days!!!
