Jake is another who learns by association. His latest is that he added "cook" or "go cook" to some of his food words. Go cook corn, cook pork chop, cook chicken but I have noticed that he does not say cook peanut because we don't cook that. Jake loves to sit on my arm when I do the dishes. I show him each piece and tell him what it is. I don't know if he will ever use the words plate, fork, spoon etc but we have a good time doing chores.

Nancy see if you can put up flyers at the grocery stores, ice cream shops, convenience stores, pizza/sub shops, feed stores, tractor supply, churches, send e-mail to the farms starting in a circle and work outward, same with day care centers. Stuff is growing now and Kiki may stop to get a bite to eat.

Have the kids record Sunny and Sophi making a lot of noises and Kiki's favorite songs. Play it in your yard as loud as you can and to heck with the neighbors. Work has trucks heading toward your area and farther east. I have asked that the drivers call in immediately if they spot a green bird outside.

Nancy call BU and let them know. Ask if P will post it on the website and if you can include a picture. You are in my prayers.

Jake has been a real stinker the past few weeks. I do believe that he isn't getting enough nap time on the weekends which is causing him to have a bad attitude. Today he spent the day out of his cage and flying around but tonight he was a brat with his diving, pulling hair and biting so we put him to bed an hour before his usual weeknight bed time. He settled right down and started beak grinding so my guess is he was over tired.

The Grey bite is a straight down chomp where as the Amazon bite is a clamp down, dig in and twist. From what I have seen Greys also bite using primarily the front and lower portion of the beak that is very sharp where as Zons bite back farther using both the upper and lower portions where the beak is a little thicker. This can be observed handing each a wooden clothes pin or stick. A Zon can snap a stick with one bite but the Grey needs to work it and usually ends up peeling it with the grain on the underside.

I don't have a clue but I think you could get some excellent information by calling or e-mailing your zoos with outdoor aviaries and ask what they use and where they buy it.

I won't do kissy lips. I like my lips on my face. Jake will put his head down for a nuzzle and make kissy noises. I am content with that.

Excellent advice on the trial runs Judy. If you might be traveling when it is dark be sure to include that in your trial. If your flock has a preference in music or favorite songs you can make a playlist or cd so you have something to quickly put on if someone decides to have a screaming fit or becomes frightened. With the warm sun please be sure that you can keep what ever type of travel cages or crates that you use cool to the touch, pad the bottoms well with bird safe absorbent material that nails will not get caught on and use low perches that your gang can get a good grip on.

My main room is very dark during the day, only a few small windows that are near the ceiling, and Jake doesn't seem to be bothered by that. I have read that Greys in the wild roost in the trees during the day which would be naturally dim. Just try and take him outside for some natural light before or after the heat of the day. Edited to add. I use both a full spectrum and avian uv light for times when we can't go outside.

The very first word I hear right from the start of the video is be good then peek a boo. In between the peek ah peek ah's I hear be good bird. WTG Storm.

I still has a mad so I broke all of momma's pictures. I pulled them off the wall and threw them on the floor. I also threw my dinner, my seed bowl and bit momma some more when she was cleaning it up. Do you know that if you bite really really hard and don't let go that red water stuff comes out? I am going to see if I can do that everywhere I bite her.
-
I has a mad. My momma moved my bouncy rope and toys from inside my house to the outside and my outside bouncy rope and toys to the inside of my house. How Dare She!!!!! Now everything is bad. To get her back for ruining the inside and outside of my house I bite her lots and lots as hard as I can. It does not matter that she put everything back where it was it is still bad.

I am curious to see if Dayo vocalizes how things should now be situated based on how they were at the other house. How are his navigational skills? Did he have to learn the hard way that the layout of his world has changed or did he seem to understand it from the beginning?

Jake isn't much into tv but he does like stand up comedy, he likes to laugh along with the crowd, and movies with sound effects like Star Wars. He also likes ice hockey. If I turn the tv on and he says "scores" I know to turn on a game or the NHL channel. The season is almost over but I do have a few hockey games on DVD for him to watch over the summer. Computer wise there are some videos he likes. There is one in particular of a TAG named "Grey Bird" which we joke is his girlfriend. He loves her videos but he gets aggressive and bitey with us after watching it so he doesn't get to view her very often. Sometimes he will watch Bibi on Ustream Streaming Software Normally though I just have a radio on or open the front door for sounds of the neighborhood.

He might like one of these. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753368&lmdn=Product+Type&f=PAD%2FpsNotAvailInUS%2FNo I think I paid $4.00 for the one Jake has. The nut in the center clatters when you shake it so he will know there is something inside. He can either work at the wooden pins which are really wedged in there tight or chew through it to get to the nut inside. If you go into Petsmart it is in the small animal section with the hamster and rabbit stuff.

The little stinker has now gone from saying "want pork chop" to telling me to "go cook, want pork chop". I have considered telling him to go cook them himself but one of these days he might surprise me and do it.

For a nice easy outing try going a park or an ice cream shop with an outside service window. If you do the ice cream shop route bring your own cone for Gus so he isn't trying to steal yours.

Dan, Jakes vet said that because his red is genetic that it can molt in or out in any given year. So even after the first molt any of his remaining red feathers could still turn and that those which turned grey could go back to red. She also said that we would have to watch since the red can signal medical issues that we don't ever just assume that the red is genetic. Have you have any knowledge on color changes in subsequent molts? I tried researching it but there isn't much out there especially on TAGS.

Nancy I had to come back and add this. Of course Sean cannot commit to Kikis long term care at this stage in his life and you should be very proud that he was honest with himself enough to say so. He is a young, in college, and doesn't know yet exactly where life will take him in a few years. It sounds to me like you have raised a very level headed young man who understands that a degree does not come with instant wealth. You should be very proud of him and yourself.

I finally put together the stroller that I bought for the Pak-O-Bird. I did not get the stroller with the Pak because I felt it was to low to the ground. Instead I found and purchased a Snap-N-Go that is designed to hold an infant car seat. It is sturdy, lifts the Pak much higher up and has straps to rest the Pak on. It took some maneuvering and experimentation to get it to sit right, without leaning front or back but I think I have it now. I took the back pack straps off and attached them to the front running under and around the stroller frame. The clip that keeps the backpack straps together in the center goes under the stroller straps. I put Jake in and wheeled him around the house, purposely bumping into objects and furniture as a test run and he didn't wiggle very much. The nice thing about this model is that if the Pac does indeed slip down it will rest in the carry tray underneath. If the breeze doesn't kick up to much this afternoon I would like to go for a test run outside. This is the exact model that I bought. It is $56 at Babies R Us. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12353532

Nancy you are overworked and at your wits end. It was just you doing all the outside chores, inside chores and animal chores while also holding down a full time job. That is no small task. I do know how much you love Kiki so maybe we can come up with easy, inexpensive ideas that can help. To give us a hand in offering ideas what is she chewing on and when? Do you notice a pattern? What do you do when she chews something she shouldn't? What are you giving her to chew on and when?

My guys name is Jake. He does know what his name is though I have never heard him say his name or refer to himself at all. While waiting for the DNA report to come back I decided on Jake for a boy and Molly for a girl.
