No flack, just a way to share cool treats without them having to be occasional. Jake won't usually eat a carrot but he will eat his carrot juice ice cream. Go figure. If you have a food saver machine you can make your own pops. Just tilt the liquid to the end, use the seal function not the suck and do a double seal with a small space in between each to cut into sticks for the freezer.

You need to have her make some pops out of carrot juice. Its a cool treat that is sweet and healthy.

So the test they ran on Monday was to overlook the effects of adrenalin on the white blood cells. This test also came back showing abnormal white blood cells and a high count. There was still enough blood to send it out to a lab to do a protein panel which will look for or to look at (I'm not sure which) lymphocytes. Since we have no baseline this might be his normal but it could also be because of a viral or bacterial infection. The vet is closed on Wednesday but she said she will call me tomorrow just as soon as she gets the results. I did a Google search and shouldn't have.

I wonder if not really liking sunflower seeds is a TAG thing?
-
Encourage him to flap his wings every chance you get. That will help the muscles get strong. On days that Jake wants a bath he really splashes then flaps hard to shake the water off before going in again. I use a clear pyrex baking dish and Jake likes his bath water ice cold (as in there is a crust of ice on the top of the water jug in the fridge). Maybe you could put a pan of water down for him in the kitchen and see if he is interested. Let him see you play with some toys in the water.

Its funny, sunflower seeds are suppose to be like crack to many parrots but Jake won't touch them. He does love his safflower seeds though.

The vet called and left a message that I need to call her between 8 and 9 am tomorrow. When she called with the results on Saturday she felt comfortable leaving a detailed message but today she didn't. So now I am worried. So please say a prayer tonight that everything is alright and that if it isn't that it can easily treated.

He is. Bad dreams had me up at 4am where I found Jake sitting on the edge of his water bowl waiting for me. When I changed it out he drank and drank and drank. I kept it dark hoping he would go back to sleep but instead he sat in the cage chattering away quietly until about 8:30. I made him a delicious breakfast of steamed corn, carrots, green beans, red & green peppers and black beans into which I scrambled an egg and topped with toasted egg shell. He ate well for him. After breakfast I changed out his water again and when he tried to take a bath in it I pulled out his big bathing pan and filled it with filtered water from the fridge (this water is so cold the container has a crust of ice on it) and he took a good long bath drenching the floor, walls, ceiling and out about 6ft. I am determined not to google anything on abnormal white blood cells until I hear back from the vet. We are going to enjoy our day and I will not worry about something that will probably turn out to be nothing. (do I sound convincing? lol) Jake has been talking about airplanes, his new word, so I am going to look up the departing flight schedule and time going outside because he likes to watch them.

Oh that is to funny. I have a chatterbox too and they can be a riot with the words and phrases that they use. Just wait until you hear her put words together to make random sentences.

Did you give the poor bird a tomato? ROFL. So was she eating what was offered and just calling everything a tomato or do you have one who tells you what she wants? Please tell us all about her trip to the aviary outside. From what you describe be ready to give names to everything as she explores.

We both had a long nap but he is still fluffed up with sleepy eyes, shaking and not eating or drinking. I know that the stress of the car, being toweled and especially the blood draw would have him out of sorts but the not eating and drinking has me concerned.

This morning was the big vet appointment. The vet says we are doing everything right and to just keep at it. His nares, preen gland and feather condition is good. There is some evidence of over preening and it is something to watch. She suggested more preening toys and toys made of balsa wood. She showed me a few techniques to try like putting a fist between beak and skin when he bites. The blood work for calcium, red blood cells, liver function and sugars look good but there is something not right with his white blood cells. She is having additional testing done on the samples and she will call me next week. He bit the vet on her face and I think she lost more blood than he did. The vet and tech tried to be so gentle but Jake was so scared by the whole ordeal that he alternated between trying to bite, crying and growling. We have been home a few hours now and Jake is sitting on his cage top all fluffed out and hasn't stopped shaking. I am going to put him in his cage for the rest of the afternoon in hopes that he will feel secure there and take a good long nap.

Jeff you can try and teacher her colors, shapes, animal identification and their sounds, and counting. These are all real concepts and not just nonsense words.

Nancy I know that BU had bottomless cabanas that hang over a perch. I like them because there is nothing to catch a toe nail or piles of poop in the bottom. A snugglie is a great idea and a preening toy or two wouldn't hurt.

Nancy there were storms with strong winds that blew west to east not long after Kiki went on her walkabout. Try widening your search to the east and to at least Syracuse. Kiki could have been having a gay old time and started riding the wind that was ahead of those storms.

Quakers can be very hardy and very resilient. There are some wild ones living in Chicago in the parks. They have managed to adapt to the harsh winters.
-
Than Brutus will probably not be phased any more than he normally would.
-
That is beautiful. One day I hope that we are in a place where we can have something similar.
-
First off I am sorry. No matter the circumstances divorce is hard. Please give yourself the time and permission to grieve. Brutis will probably think that your husband has gone to work for a long time. He may call and watch for him or even look through the house but if you keep to your normal routine Bruits will adapt. Has your soon to be ex ever gone away while you stayed home?

Jake is a work in progress.

Nancy get fliers posted in the windows of convenience stores, gas stations, ice cream shops, visit all the stalls at the farmers market, contact the day care centers and sports associations. Kiki might be drawn to food in the fields or the sounds of children. Do not forget to include the fact that there is a reward.

I wish I could help you. I have been searching for a store that carries Hagen bird products around here. I came across this today http://www.hagen.com/hari/docu/dealers-tc-tm.cfm I see a few kind of local places I am going to call and see what they stock. *** edited to add. I called all the places listed within 40 miles and only 1 still carries Hagen products and of course that wasn't the size I need. Every place said they could order the 20lb bags. I am not buying a 20lb bag for Mr. I'm Not Eating That! to try.

It could be the "name" that your feather baby has decided to call your kid. Jake uses the sound of the microwave or oven timer as my "name".

I think its the eyes. To me a amazon carries their emotion in their eyes. If you look closely you can read them and get a glimpse of what is going on in their head. Happy, curious, angry, grumpy, interested, excited, the eyes will tell you if you take the time to watch and learn. Greys have a poker face.
