Love your sig by the way Dave. I need to get off my lazy backside and make one of my own one of these days.

TAG is a Timneh african grey and a CAG is a congo african grey referring to the two subspecies of greys. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_Grey_Parrot See the second paragraph on the wikipedia page for a short description of the differences.

hello from california / need lil help....
bmatrow replied to dhillon88's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Glad to help. My conures tend to fall to the floor with their clipped wings, I try and give them a soft place to land by putting towels and such around their cage to prevent them from hurting themselves. If your grey falls often I would suggest doing something similar. By the way, welcome to the forums! I would love to see some pictures of your grey. -

Usually they will grow back within 6 months if I'm remembering correctly. Sometimes a bit longer or shorter. I'm currently awaiting my conures wings to grow back myself. -
I used to like spongebob, but I think my kids burnt me on it. One can only handle so much spongebob

Glad to have you here fmcgraw! Pictures of your grey would be awesome, I just cant get enough of the pictures! Ray your place sounds a bit like mine. A mini zoo! We have 3 dogs, 3 cats, peafowl, chickens, turkeys, 2 conures, 2 keets, 140 head of cattle and a rose haired tarantula.

Priceless he left a deposit so you did too!

Okay! A quick double check on galvanized. It contains zinc and is not only toxic to birds but also toxic to just about anything.
-
I have considered an outdoor aviary. Not that I'm an expert but I wouldn't trust a 2" opening. And I may be wrong but I seem to recall galvanized steel is a no no for birds and most the dog kennels I've seen are all galvanized. Again I may be wrong on that one but I think I read it somewhere. You may look into building one instead of buying a pre-built. May come out cheaper if you have any carpentry skills. Something I'm slightly lacking in...

I got my birds off an all seed diet and feed them pellets and fresh veggies and greens. They adore seeds and nuts but I use them mainly as treats as I think there are more nutritious food items to give them they also eat. If your birds don't seem as interested in the seed just as well. I now give my birds seed mix once a week as a treat although I give them each a peanut a day as a morning treat before I go to work.

Thanks for the pointers Bret. I have a decent enough coralife skimmer designed for a 125gallon so I figured it would work well enough on a 75. Have considered a calcium reactor in my sump as well. Also looking into buying a decent RO/DI filter rather then packing home gallon after gallon of store bought water from a pet shop. Ill check out that website too thanks a lot! Beautiful angel Malikah! I have considered going the soft coral rout due to the price of the proper lighting. As they are one of the last pieces of equipment I have yet to purchase its still in the air as it is also one of the most expensive depending on the rout you go. Been considering going with one of the LED models to reduce heat but they are not super cheap either.

Some photos of dayo outside today after his shower.

Great pictures of a good looking bird. Really like the cage setup too, looks like Dayo has got it good. -
Yea I personally would be nervous about doing a "do it yourself" on things like this with birds. My nerves being all the more reason to have a professional do it. I don't even like to clip my black labs nails myself.

These are great, always good for a laugh!

As I am getting the grey mainly for myself this is one thing I'm a bit worried about. Hoping that he/she will bond more with me and not my wife who already has so many pets of her own. But it will be what it will be only time will tell. I was thinking about trying to get a female I've read they are more apt to bond with a man then a woman although I don't know how true that is.

Eight weeks and starting to show those beautiful red tail feathers. Wish I lived close enough to a reputable breeder I could watch my baby grow.

I have three birds I let out quite a bit but I'm afraid to let my Blue out at the same time as Kiwi and Mango. Hopefully someday I'll fell comfortable enough to let them all out at once and they can share their playstand and even eat off the same plate :-)

I don't personally own an amazon, but from what I've read I don't figure it'd be any different then allowing any other similar species on your shoulder. Depends on the individual bird and sometimes their moods. As long as Chili remains gentle about it I don't see why it should be a problem and if that ever changes I would simply not allow him to do it anymore.

Very beautiful bird. You are all making me feel inadequate with my old panasonic dslr with all your awesome pics! Maybe when I get my new baby I'll invest in a new camera. I also am highly interested in training my birds to accept a harness. I'd love to take them with me places I go but I don't know if I'll ever have the nerve to take them outside without some form of restraint no matter how many videos I see of people with perfectly trained birds who buzz around then return right back to their handler. So many things could go wrong or spook them.

Yea I think it was similar reasons that I had decided to not mess with it after all the time in research and money I already had in it. But a friend of mine recently set his up again and re-sparked my interest. The reefs are so amazing. New things pop up out of nowhere all the time. There's always something new to look at. I haven't looked at a chiller as I am planning on running a berlin sump and that is supposed to help to keep your temp lower. Figure I can decide weather I'd need such a piece of equipment when I cycle the tank. fmcgraw I'd love to see what your setup looks like to get some ideas on mine. Besides I love reef pictures almost as much as I love bird pictures!

Always enjoy your shots. Thanks for sharing

Been considering setting up a reef system for freaking YEARS now. Even already have a 75 gallon aquarium and about 80% of the equipment and supplies I need to get it going. Why haven't I finished a project I started years ago you may ask. Well honestly, I don't know. Been considering it more and more recently since I do have $$$$ worth of equipment laying around I might as well! Do any of you also have a fascination with these colorful little sea critters? If so what kind of setup do you have? Pictures would be great!

I have also heard it both ways. And personally, I wouldn't chance it. All the things out there we can feed our birds why even chance something that even MIGHT hurt them. Just my two cents. :-)

Good looking bird you have there. Thanks for sharing.

As much as I seriously enjoyed smoking. I didn't just smoke because I was addicted I smoked because I truly enjoyed it. I quit in 2008 after my mom died of cancer due to smoking and my grandmother two years before that. But I cheated and used Chantix to help me quit. And although one of the side effects was that it gave me odd dreams, it worked like a charm and I have been smoke free for over 3 years now. Not saying I couldn't pick the habit back up as still to this day I have cravings for them once in a while.
