I'm excited for you Todd. I'll be putting a deposit down on my grey in a few days. It will be about 5 months before he/she comes home, but like you-- I plan to visit often in the interim.

I'm glad you are having the kind of summer that your fids can enjoy. We are going to hit 115 degrees today (actual temperature--not heat index). I'm afraid the fids in Okla will need to stay indoors, or they will end up looking like something one might order at KFC. By the way, I noticed in your video that when Louie got too close to Anna Grey, she immediately went after him and put him in his place. She's a little firecracker isn't she?

It seems there is a lot of grey area here. When in doubt I say don't risk it.

I'm glad to hear I won't have to go dig up night crawlers for my grey when I get him/her. I used to have a garter snake as a child that fed on them. Wasn't very appetizing to watch him consume them.

I correct my students (I teach English to international students)--But I very rarely correct others. I may try to model the correct pronunciation later though. Your friend buys you tickets to go with him/her see a play/musical/ or movie that you really hate. Do you go? Be honest? Make an excuse? Other?

Hi and welcome. I really like the name you chose. For one I used to teach English in Japan, so it brings back memories. Secondly, I'm in Oklahoma and we've had over 30 days over 100 degrees and the thought of snow (Yuki in Japanese) is heavenly. As far as talking, Timnehs often begin speaking earlier than Congo Greys. Six months is not an uncommon age for them to say their first words, so he may indeed be on the verge.

Thanks indeed for sharing. I have to admit, reading the posts here do tend to get me a bit sad sometimes, however. From Murphy's escape to the little baby dove to the various pet memorials. I'm so glad there is so much happy and comical stuff here to provide balance.

Cody is indeed a pretty bird. I have a friend who has a grey who is essentially missing a foot. He can't "perch" per se, but they have a small plank of wood that he stands on. He seems to do pretty well. He's a good climber and plays like a champ.

I love reading all this. The human dynamics with multiple birds and all the individual personalities makes for a great "novella".

I'm so glad your came here to get some helpful information. There is so much "tosh" out there, that it can be bewildering for us who are trying to learn.

I think it is best NOT to rush the "step-up" at this point. Isaac is just getting used to his new digs and his new family. I think you should concentrate on making him feel safe and loved as well as letting him know he has some choices in the matters of his life. The step-up will come as the trust grows. Forcing it will likely set you back in your relationship with him.
