  1. He has a very naughty glint in his eye.
  2. Great video as always. Loved the soundtrack too.
  3. Cocoa has so many cool adventures! He's a lucky bird.
  4. Nice video. Zak is a handsome bird.
  5. Hi. From what I understand 16 weeks is usually the earliest the grey baby should go to a new home. The key is not to force weaning. Let them handfeed as long as they want. Some breeders keep the babies until 20 weeks or even longer. I will be getting a bird soon, and he/she will be about five months old before the breeder will send it home with me. I'm definately not an expert, but I have been doing a lot of research and this seems to be the conventional wisdom.
  6. Very touching video. I like the version of "Your Song" as well.
  7. Interesting video. I had no idea there were 40 million pet parrots in the US.
  8. All of our hearts and prayers are with both you and Murphy. I hope you know how much genuine love and concern there is for you here.
  9. I'm so glad I read this post. I never thought about checking my rice cooker. I'll be sure to do that now.

    My flock

Thanks for sharing about your flock. You have some nice looking birds.
  11. It will be a few weeks, but once I get to start visiting the bird at the breeder I will start posting some pics.
  12. You all are a crafty bunch--I love the suggestions.
  13. Hi and welcome! I'm sure you will have a good experience here. I've learned so much and feel much more prepared to welcome a grey into my home (which will be in about 5 months)
  14. It may be a couple of weeks, but as soon as I can I will introduce you to my new baby in pictures.
  15. After reading posts like this I think I better keep a bottle of nitro glycerin and a defibrillator handy after my grey comes home! Never a dull moment it seems.
  16. It's great that you are getting to know him now before you bring him home. The CAG I am getting is a vet who lives in my city and she has invited me to visit as often as I like after he/she is pulled and hand feeding begins. I was also thinking about getting a harness and getting the bird adjusted to it from the beginning. How was it getting it on him? Any struggle/issues? He's a handsome guy!
  17. Hmmmm...Something to think about. I'll be bringing my grey home in December/Jan--so whether there is a "parrot shower" or not I know my Christmas list will be very parrot-focused. I haven't written Santa in a while--maybe I should send a note to the North Pole! I've been relatively good this year.
  18. LOL--Well, as I wrote, it was said "jokingly"....Although maybe I can throw some hints around in the weeks to come.
  19. Judy--I think there is the "right" time for everything. I wanted to be sure I researched things thoroughly and knew in my heart that it was the right the decision to become a parront to a grey. I also wanted to find the right breeder. I know everyone is welcome here, and everyone made me feel a part even though I didn't have my fid yet. But now that I have made the step to fully commit to getting a bird, I just psychologically feel more like I belong here. Now I've got to start getting all my supplies. Cages, Pak-O Bird, play stands, toys, travel carriers, etc. My co-workers have jokingly said they will have a "Parrot Shower" for me like they do when people are expecting babies--lol.
  20. I've been a member of this group about seven months, but do not yet own a grey. Well, today I put my deposit down on a CAG from a local breeder who also happens to be a vet. There are three birds available--just hatched! They will be DNA'd in a few weeks and I will get my pick. When I wrote my check and signed my name to the contract I felt like I finally belonged here. It will be Dec/Jan before I can bring my baby home, but I will be visiting and interacting with him/her all along the way. I will post pics and share info as I learn more. If it's a girl I will name her Gracie Bee. If it's a boy he will be named Miles--of course that could all change as I get to know the bird. I'm really stoked and chuffed about this next step in life's journey.
  21. Great way to start the ball rolling. Hope that's just the tip of an iceberg of years of cuddles ahead!
  22. OK--here's the rhyme I should have made. Rhyming with "opportunity" I often take opportunity To find joy in my life with impunity. Its good for my health And adds to my wealth And seldom disrupts the community. New Word: Ship (second times a charm)
  23. I loved a young lass, but she left I was down and distraught and bereft Then I saw her on the street With a man named Pete Who had a large chin with a cleft. New Word: Ship OOPS--I rhymed the wrong word (LEFT) because I followed post #7 at the bottom of page one rather than the last post here. I like my little poem though so I decided not to delete it. Forgive me for not following game etiquette. I promise I will adhere to the rules next time.
  24. Great pics and nice cage/home too. I agree with Shelly--I'd have the vet do the trimming. Stay the good guy as long as possible!
