  1. Marcus looks like a character. You seem like a happy flock.
  2. I just love watching your Louie videos. I'm rooting for you guys. I live in a condo with neighbors adjacent, so although I am very attracted to Zons, I heard they can be too loud for my situation. I am excited about getting my CAG in a few months. I wanted to ask you about your hanging boings. I was debating about making a pvc playgym or getting various hanging boings to place in my condo. I'll probably end up doing both. I just wanted your take on it. It seems your birds enjoy the boings.
  3. When I get my grey, I am going to take her to work with me. I am a teacher of English to international students of college age. I was thinking about using the Model Rival method perhaps using some of my students. I was thinking about doing it just ten minutes a day during the lunch hour. I don't know how often Dr Pepperberg did it with Alex, but I don't want to overdo it.
  4. I am getting a female CAG from a local vet who breeds greys. My baby is currently 8 weeks old, and I will meet her next week. I will be able to visit as often as I like, and since the breeder is a vet she has a wealth of information. I will post pics after our first visit.
  5. You know Janet, just watching the video, I think it's clear Louie already trusts you bunches. His "nibbles" are so soft and it almost seems like he is connecting with you even though he is using his beak. Who knows what may come, but your relationship seems solid and close from my perspective.
  6. It is interesting being in this forum. It seems many grey owners also own other species of birds--especially cockatiels, conures, senegals, budgies and amazons. But I haven't run across anyone with a cockatoo. Cockatoos are very popular parrots. I wonder why we don't see more Too owners in this forum. Do you think there is something about the personality of people attracted to Greys, or have I just not run across the Too parronts here yet? Come to think of it, I don't see a lot of Macaw owners here either, although there are some. Any thoughts?
  7. He's a handsome guy. I hope you decide to keep him. I don't know your situation, but it seems like deep down you really want a grey--so why not him? You are off to a great start by all appearances.
  8. Six moths is young for a CAG to start speaking much. Just keep doing what you're doing. I think when you communicate with your grey meaningfully it yields the best results.
  9. Luna looks like a sweet little ball of fluff! The grey I am getting (a female who will be named Gracie) is about the same age. I haven't met her yet, but as soon as I do, I will post pics as well.
  10. I also think it might be good for Chris to find ways to interact positively with your grey. So far he has left everything up to you. I'm not suggesting he try to handle the bird yet, but he might give treats or let him out of his cage in the morning. Proper socialization means including all family members to avoid the situation you are describing. Baby steps are important, but it's still early days and I believe this situation can me mediated and improved with time and patience.
  11. LOL--dont worry about the typos! I make typing mistakes all time. Thank goodness for the "edit" button. It does sound like you have a good bird there. I wish you lots of love and happiness together. To be honest, you seem to be making very fast progress with Willie. I'm getting a baby grey female in about 3 months. I can't wait for the adventure to begin.
  12. Joe, From the looks of your balcony, it does seem better than I imagined, but see if you can insulate it a little when winter comes if possible. Just some clear plastic and maybe a little portable space heater would be an improvement. I'm sorry if you felt a bit attacked. I hope you know my intention was to be helpful really. I know you are learning. I'm learning too and I have a long way to go.
  13. I really feel for you Scottish Gaz. I know how excited you have been to get your grey and you are eager to bond with him. Patience isn't easy sometimes. I know it will be well worth it though. Forget everything you know about keeping other pets like cats or dogs. Greys are of another order altogether. I'm a newbie here myself and can say that in the last eight months I have learned a ton about what grey parronthood is about. I still feel what I know is just the tip of the iceberg. As far as your bird bonding more with females...eh...who knows? What will be will be--but whoever he/she bonds with--proper socialization will allow a good relationship with all the important people in the household. One year old is still young. The adventure is just beginning. Good Luck and keep us all posted. By the way, are you in Scotland?
  14. I have put a deposit down on a baby female grey (Gracie will be her name). She will be coming home in December, and I wanted to know how many toys should be awaiting her in her cage and playstands when she first arrives. I have read that greys need to be introduced slowly to new things, so I wasn't sure whether to start off with just her cage, her cage with one or two toys, or her cage all tricked out with various amusements already in place. I will be visiting her several times a week starting in October, and I plan to introduce her to her Pak O Bird carrier and her aviator harness and perhaps a few toys. I just don't want to overwhelm or stress her when I finally bring her home. Any suggestions?
  15. Joe, are you living with your parents? Is there another room in the house where your bird cage can be placed?
  16. I'm a little concerned about your grey being outside once winter comes. I know Lebanon can get quite cold at night. Is there anyway you can enclose your balcony and provide heat? This situation worries me. Also, I know that this cage may seem big to you, but it is actually still quite small for a grey. 75 cm width would be considered a minimum=90-100 cm much better. The t-stand idea is good, but why do you want a leg chain? That is a concern as well.
  17. Pak O Bird from Celltei sells a specially designed carrier for in cabin airline travel. Not cheap, but most people seem very pleased with their products. http://www.celltei.com/pakobird.html
  18. The epitome of peaceful tranquility.
  19. I like the name Zazu. It's certainly not an over-used name by any means,
  20. JeffNOK

    Too big?

Most information I have read says 3/4" for TAG and 3/4" -- 1" for a CAG. I hope that's true because I just set up my new cage for my soon to arrive CAG and it has 1" bar spacing.
  21. Although I will be getting a grey, I have really loved learning about Zons here, too. Seems a lot of people on this forum have both types of birds, so it makes sense that Zons get a place at the table.
  22. We are all so glad you and your birds are doing well.
