  1. I have to give a +10 to Ray and his opening post. This place was a godsend. Other forums are good but this one fit. You guys have been there with me in the good and the bad. Some give some "tough love" advice and that's not a bad thing. Sometimes it's best not to sugar coat the truth. Others have given a shoulder to cry on, a hearty laugh to laugh with and sometimes just a smile to cheer me on. My first anniversary is still a couple of months away but I will celebrate along with Ray today. Cheers!
  2. Best ever! But sometimes they can try your patience.
  3. Not boring at all. I look forward to these updates. There are a lot more that read and enjoy than actually reply. It's great to share the experiences of living with a parrot, both good and not so good. Thanks for keeping it going!
  4. Disney Channel or anything else with lots of music and characters.
  5. I just want to add that your grey won't exactly be noticing that you are gone for 8 hours. They take a couple of naps every day.
  6. I never got my two little birds sexed. I've had them for 17 years and back in the day, you pretty much only had the sexing done if you were planning to mate them. My grey that is coming has already been sexed. (The breeder uses the nail method mentioned by Shelly.) If you are unsure about this, I would let the vet do it.
  7. I found a website that is helpful to me and it might be to others as well. It is http://www.fatsecret.com (I know, not a very flattering name.) You have to register with an account but then you can track your foods, your exercises and your weight. You can join in on challenges with other people. There are recipes that you can try and other helpful information. If you have a smart phone there is an app called "calorie counter" (free in the android market). You can do all of the same things using this app but you also have the ability to scan the barcode of any food you eat and it will determine the nutritional values and you can add that to the food diary. This program helps me because I find myself not giving into snacking temptations if I know I have to add that to the daily log. Anyway I just started so I don't know how effective it's going to be yet. I'll let you know in a week.
  8. The "someone" might decide against taking her. She may be yours yet. Like you say, if it's meant to be it will happen.
  9. Do you know how old she is and how long she has been with her current "parront"? Also, is her current home her first home? Why is the owner rehoming? I would go into it and just be myself. I would let her take the lead and follow her signals. I am very excited for you and I'm looking forward to you getting back to us and let us know how the "date" went!
  10. Yours may not have the tray in the back. I found this one that looks like the one you selected. It looks like it has two pull out trays in the front: http://www.windycityparrot.com/zoomify.asp?catalogid=869&img=assets/images/products/graphics/00000001/AE_C4242.jpg
  11. It's great to meet you Kathy! I read your story in the other thread about the scammer. I'm glad you looked into it further and did not get taken by the crook. It's also great that you shared that as a warning to others who are looking to purchase a grey.
  12. I had one similar to that and got rid of it for two reasons. One is because the grate and tray are removed from the back so I had to spin the cage everytime I cleaned it. The second is because it wouldn't fit out the door so I couldn't take it outside to hose it down for super cleaning. My replacement cage is still a good size but it will fit out the door.
  13. Thanks for the great introduction and welcome!
  14. Beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing!!
  15. Nice to meet you too! There are a couple of ways to put pictures in. One is if you have a photobucket account. You can put the pictures in there, make sure to resize if they are really big, and copy the IMG code for the picture. Paste that code into the reply box. The other way is to "Go Advanced" That is the button in the lower right corner. Now you should see a paper clip in the top row. That is for adding attachments. You can use that feature to upload pictures and post them in with your comment.
  16. That is wonderful news! (Now all we need is more pictures....hint, hint)
  17. Thanks Judy! This is such a great experience to be able to visit weekly. I can tell that he knows me and that is so cool! It also makes the waiting time easier because it is in one week increments. I just have to wait a few days and look forward to the next visit rather than the final homecoming.
  18. I know that Cody's human mama got a Kings cage with lower food bowls and the play top. She had a great big cage but found he was better with the wider cage with the play top.
  19. Thanks Ray! We had fun today. Next week I'm going to start working on harness training.
  20. Egan is now 52 days old, is still on 3 hand feedings a day but is starting to pick at his Zupreem. He weighed 276 grams this morning.
  21. That is good news that he is looking better this morning. Also good news that a vet check is coming. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for keeping us updated!
  22. I would say yes. Take him to the vet. ETA: I meant the "yes" for take him to the vet. I didn't mean that you did anything wrong.
  23. God bless you for providing a loving home to this loving grey! That was a fantastic introduction. I look forward to more stories and pictures.
