Well being only 18 months old Murphy has a lot to learn & so far hasn't really shown me any of that grey intelligence that he is capable of until now! A while back the latch on his cage door jammed so I had to unscrew the tinny bolt so I could get him out, while doing this Murphy watched intently. I left the one bolt in so I could still close the door & use the latch, thinking he won't know how to open it................I was wrong! One day he was there having a good old go at the latch, I took no notice till I heard a bang on the cage floor, went over the little monkey had managed to undo the other bolt. Anyway I thought it was a one off but fitted a padlock anyway as the latch was no good & all the was keeping the door closed was a small easy to open latch at the top. When we leave the house & Murphy is left on his own I fit the padlock. Every Time I fit the lock he is straight over trying to figure it out but as it's a combination lock it won't happen. Well I think Murphy has cottoned on to the fact that he can't open the lock & moved on to other ways of escaping his cage. I was just outside when I walked in the back door & his swing away door for feeding was open, Murphy was just sitting looking at me as if to say "What?" I knew straight away he had figured out how to open them as I have seen him at the latch for a good few days. Now I know what Murphy gets up to when nobody is about. Looks like I have a regular little mission impossible escape artist on my hands.

Murphy has figured out how to open stuff like cage doors & feeding doors.

This is indeed a very good forum, I have enjoyed the time I have spent here & always made to feel welcome, unlike some forums around. I have been on other parrot forums in the past & you say the wrong thing or ask the wrong question & you get it in the neck! It has never been like that here at grey forums, people are understanding & treat you with respect. I have also gotten a lot of help here which has helped me through some tough times with Murphy in the beginning so a VERY BIG THANK YOU from me & Murphy to everybody at grey forums inc all the mods & admin.

That's great news, Murphy is 18 months old & yet to say a proper first word. He is definitely trying to speak, sometimes whole sentences but drunk sounding. I sometimes think he said certain words but never sure what he has said so I'm waiting for the day I know for sure what he said before I announce it to the world..........watch this space!

Poor betty, glad she is with someone that cares about her now. It made me go get Murphy out for a cuddle.

That made me laugh Stephen.

Well I tried but couldn't hold the tears back after reading your wife's post, a big strong man like me. It just shows the love we have for our pets & made me think of all the pets I've lost over the years. It will get better but you will never forget & that's the important thing, grey will always be in your memories as the sweet little grey he was who loved you & knew you loved him. Time will heal & you will find a place in your heart for another grey when your ready.
-
I feel your sadness right now, sorry for your loss!

All I can here from Murphy at night is him stuffing his face in his food dish.

I hope Grey makes a recovery I will also say a prayer for you.

Good to hear from you Spock & keep up the good work looking after your flock. keep us updated on how thing are going & say hi to Poppa Jay for me, give him my best. Maybe a good nut might make him feel better, have you tried that yet?

Looks like the harness is a no no this year!

I think you may be right about putting it on regular, it did cross my mind but I thought all would be ok. I wondered how he might react to it this year & now I know. Not sure what I'll do from here, don't really want to put him through that again, these harness seem more trouble than there worth at times. Although once you have them used to them it's so nice to be able to take them outside with you. I may just look for a small cage, not sure yet, I'll have to see. -
Well the weather has brightened up & I thought I'd take Murphy outside with me while I do a little work. I got out the harness to put it on him & he went absolutely nuts as soon as I tried to out it over his head, went flying off in a panic crashing & screaming round the house, I tried to calm him down & got a nasty bite when I tried to pick him up. For Murphy it looked like the worst experience of his life, I think he thought I was trying to strangle him the silly sod. He's now sat in the corner of the cage looking all upset. Last year when I brought him home he was harness trained & I managed to get it on him, not always easy & we did have a few occasions when he was a little p***ed off but it always worked out ok. In Summer I like to bring him out with me but judging by that performance I won't be doing that again anytime soon, don't think it's worth the stress for him or me.

classic, what a clever little fella!

Great story, glad it worked out well.

Sounds like a clever little girl to me, who enjoys winding you up with her poo games. Unfortunately I don't have any advise other than get some wet wipes to clean up the poo......"EEEEEW, EEEEW EEEEWWWW"

Thanks Dan, I love to see new Videos of Dayo.

He's still only a young one like Murphy who is only 15 months old. They have lots of learning to do yet, I think what happens is when they have learnt all they need too, they start teaching us.
-
It makes me laugh every time I watch it, he's becoming quite the little character these days.
-
You think they won't dance until they hear some music they like, just like us I guess. We don't all like the same music but something we do like gets us in the groove. Murphy is the same, he heard some Jazz & off he went bobbing like crazy & never been interested in any other music before.
-
How old is Rorschach? I started flipping Murphy on his back not long after I got him home at 12 weeks & now he is just fine with it, totally relaxed. I can even tickle his feet without him freaking & grabbing on, he seems to enjoy it now.
-
Welcome back & congrats on the new baby, it will be the best thing that ever happens to you.
-
Murphy has learnt to dance to music, seems he likes Jazz.

We we're watching a TV programme last night called Treme set in New Orleans & some Jazz music came on, Murphy was loving it. He has never shown any interest in music before but for the whole programmes he was dancing away to the Jazz. I managed to capture some on Video, although I couldn't keep the video still I was laughing that much. [video=youtube;qfyD85bx-AU]
