Last week I took my baby daughter up to the Village hall & they have a little play ground for toddlers, Murphy tagged along much to his enjoyment. We also went for a stroll around the village & Murphy met some people along the way & was great. One lady got him to step up & accept a tickle, looks like I'm making some progress with the socialising

It makes me laugh every time I look at that pic. That's exactly how he landed after the planted toppled off the window ledge & he stayed there while I grabbed the camera He is such a poser!

This is a picture of Murphy the flying menace landing where he shouldn't have. The little monkey started giving me the runaround when I tried to pick him up of his stand one day to put him back in his cage. He's so used to landing on his stand & because I was in the way he didn't know where to land so he tried to land on our Jasmine plant on the window ledge

Murphy had his first chicken bone last week. At first he looked at it as if to say "what the hell is that" took it off me had a nibble then chucked it. 10 minutes later he was on the bottom of his cage devouring it

My German Shepherd Zeus grew up around a parrot & is very respectful of them. Murphy came last but is not bothered by Zeus at all, Zeus nudges him with his nose & Murphy just grumbles at him to leave him be which he does. The cats on the other hand is a different matter, they are well aware all is not what it seems with a parrot & stay well clear of him. Murphy knows this & thinks it's fun to chase them away, think it makes him feel brave

I would go too if it was a little closer to home.

I think this is the wider version http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Super-Windsor-Large-Corner-Parrot-Cage-antique-Grey-/200477610936?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Birds&hash=item2ead6593b8

I had that exact cage for my Amazon, he seemed to like it. Was a nice cage & decent quality, it went with him when he went back to live with his Mum (the ex). They are great if you are stuck for space but can just fit a corner cage in but as Judy says if you ever want to move it you are a little limited to where it can go. I have Murphy in a different & better position than my Amazon was & wouldn't have been able to do it if I still had the corner cage so just be sure that's where you want the cage to go. I think I've seen a wider version of that cage if you want to give more space to your bird.

Don't forget to leave the remote so him/her can change channel

Well I tried the ground ginger & he still didn't eat much veg. Gave him a bowl of sliced green beans & baby sweetcorn & he only ate the sweetcorn as he likes that. I'll keep trying though.

Was wondering how it's going with Yoshi & her screaming issue? Any better, what has worked & what hasn't?

Could have fooled me Jill...........you seem to be on here rather a lot ;)

I guess you will have to try the blueberry juice. I wonder about some food coloring on his foot, that's what they use to color parrot toys I think. I'm sure somebody with a bit more knowledge will know if it's safe to use. I read a story once of somebody's macaw getting his feet stained from the dye in his toys when they got wet for some reason, took ages to wear off.

That's something I must try as Murphy doesn't really like his veg he prefers fruit mainly banana. In fact he doesn't like much in the way of food, so picky it's untrue. He has even got picky about his seed mix now.
-
This is what I feed Murphy on, the parrot diet. It seemed to be the best seed mix with low sunflower content available in the UK & a good price too. http://www.tidymixdiets.com/products.htm He also has this in the evenings http://shop.robharvey.com/natures-harvest-tropical-soak-mix-5kg-smsa3355-69-p.asp Rob Harvey also do what looks to be a good seed mix called African grey select http://shop.robharvey.com/african-grey-select-10kg-hsmp00310-843-p.asp & an even more expensive one called African grey natural but it's twice the price  I'm thinking of trying the African grey select from Rob Harvey for Murphy as he has gone super fussy with his tidymix & perfers to eat a cheap mix I got from a local place.

Funny, he likes to keep you on your toes me thinks........lol

I live in a Bungalow & have Murphy's cage in the hallway which is the hub of the house. I spend most of my time in our study & his cage is opposite the door. I also have stand in the living room, when we go in there to have dinner or watch TV he flies in after us. I spent ages trying to decide the best place for his cage, considered the living room but as I don't spend much time in there he would be on his own too much & my study is way too small for a cage. I wouldn't consider the kitchen myself for all the dangers to them like non stick pans, hot stoves etc. It all depends on your living arrangements, the layout of your home & where you spend most of your time etc. Everybody & everybody's house is different so what suits you & your bird best really.

I've been looking to get Murphy a new cage & I keep looking at this one, it's slightly bigger than the Haiti. http://shop.parrotcare.com/african-greyamazon-chile-cage--20-free-toys-star-buy-263-p.asp

Very good news, I remember feeling like you not so long ago before I picked up Murphy.........congratulations!

That sounds a logical course of action, he must be practising the ancient Vulcan techniques of meditation ( Wh'ltri ) which they do from a young age.
-
Actually Murphy does play a little game with me on top of his cage. If I go to one side & duck down, then pop my head up saying "give us a kiss" he come running over as fast as he can, I then run round to the other side & so on. You can tell by the way he runs over enthusiastically that he really enjoys it

Get a video for us please, would be funny to watch that.
