  7. Maggie here, A lot of Grey's are "one person birds", and yes they can change from one person to another at any time. The baby will be ok with your wife, Start a couple of weeks before you leave spending less and less time with your bird and let your wife spend more and more. It's hard, but it will work out in the end...Jayd says "no problem". Maggie, Jayd and Spock...

  15. Morning, as mentioned, what are you feeding him?[poop color], Quote"I try to ask he immediately lowers his whole body so there is no access to his body that I wouldn't have to pass the beak first" This posture could be a invitation to pet him, or a "sucker punch" to bite you,,, Most birds like their beak petted, practice that with 1 finger, then use thumb and 1st finger in a cleaning motion, say, " let me clean your beak" or something similar when he has food on it... Maggie

  17. Thank you, refresher to all who didn't know, Joey is a rescue who was abused, he's just coming out of the closet, leaving some of his baggage behind. We know he was never allowed to fly, and his last owners kept him clipped , we never clipped him...When a baby cut's down on his feeding it's always a trying time for the paront's, they know what and why they're baby is doing this. It is our belief that Joey is going through this...Maggie

  20. The gases and chemicals released in a bag of microwave popcorn and any number of other microwave foods can irritate and damage the lining of our feathered friends air sac/lung lining as it can our own human lungs. The amount needed to cause damage is accumulative not instantaneous like Teflon and PTFE. So, the amount needed to hurt you is as different from person to person as it is bird to bird. We use only air-popped popcorn. (YEECH!) Read the labels of any microwave products you purchase... Also consider: Self-cleaning oven fumes - highly toxic to birds - if you don't want your bird inhaling them do you want to? Candles, incense, carpet fresheners, air fresheners, and room deodorizers - all contain one or both of scent oils and propellants that are very dangerous to the fragile respiration system of your bird. Cigarette, marijuana, pipe and cigar smoke - if second-hand smoke is bad for people, it's worse for your birds. Microwave popcorn fumes - highly dangerous to the avian respiratory system. http://www.ohboyparrotfood.com/articles/holiday-food-and-kitchen-safety-for-parrots.html Jayd, Maggie
  21. Spock has started a few new words/phrases...whenever our birds say something and we don't quite hear or understand what they are saying, we answer (Like they are kids, duh!) "What?" and "What did you say?". Spock has now started to say "What?" We know he doesn't know what that means yet...is this how they start to define what they understand? He likes the sound of that word and it is used quite often in the same context daily. It is so fascinating to hear them develop speech daily. Maggie
  22. As you all probably know, Joey is our 3 yr old rescue CAG. He was never allowed to fly and has always been clipped severely. He has started recently to fly and has made short flights but doesn't know how to land and always crashes into walls, etc. unless we can try to catch him:( We have been really worried because he doesn't know how to stop forward flight. We put pillows at each end of his flight paths. This morning he flew his usual flight path (around thirty feet) and landed safely on his pillow in the kitchen next to Jay who was on the computer. After sitting on Jay's shoulder, listening to accolades about how great he was, I picked him up so I could take him back to his cage. To my great surprise, he suddenly took off flying, maneuvering up and over the TV, around his cage, down the hall and across the bedroom, landing on the other side on a fresh pile of clean laundry. He was taken back to his cage, a conquering hero and was given an unsalted pretzel (his favorite) as a reward. What a greyt day!!! Maggie
  23. Beeswax are one of the safe one's. Maybe you should reread some of your threads, you received some very good answers... Question? Are you familiar with the dangers of "PTFE", Teflon, microwave popcorn, etc? Please read about these things on the Forums... Spock, Jayd's better half..
