I love his name! Miss Kito sometimes is a pistol about going back into her cage at night too. If I turn off the TV and most of the lights like I am going to bed she's a lot more agreeable. I also gave her a little cardboard box with a piece of baby blanket in it and she likes to sleep in there. Good luck!

Thanks for the update! I'm so glad to hear that you left the stressful job and you both are much happier. Come on feathers!!

Take a small dish and put an inch or so of cider vinegar in it and add couple of drops of dishsoap. Stir it gently and set it somewhere near where they are worst but out of your birds reach. You may have to reset the trap a few times but within a few days you will be rid of the darn pests. Cheap and effective. I know because my son started collecting banana peels in his bedroom once. Yuck!!

We have a cat and a little dog (whom Kito might like to make a victim of her wrath). I have to watch her every minute when she is out, so I made a bird room where I keep her sleeping cage, her pet parakeet Charlie, and a big playstand. I get her out at 8:15 a.m. and spend about 30 minutes with her in the morning and then she goes in her big livingroom cage to eat her breakfast while I am at work. I leave the TV on for her. When I come home we eat lunch together and play for about an hour then she goes and plays in her room (that has a screen door also) for most of the afternoon. Charlie is not hand tame (working on that) so he stays in his flight cage all the time. I stop in several times and chat with her and Charlie and play as time allows depending on my schedule. If I am busy with bookwork sometimes we just whistle and jabber back and forth for a while until I have time to take a break. I bring her back out into the livingroom/diningroom area around 5 and she eats dinner with us (in her cage). Then it's concert time and Lee plays his guitar and Kito sings along. On the 2 nights I am gone she stays in her cage or goes back into the playroom if she wants. If I am home she can be out. Then about 8 pm she helps me do the dishes and laundry and then we go hang out with Charlie for a while until birdie bedtime around 9 p.m. She seems really happy and doesn't do any screaming or digging or anything. She doesn't get bored unless she's in the same place for more than 3 or 4 hours at a time.

Wow, good question Barbara2! I'd have to have the window shades like in that movie The Holiday. I'm so lucky, Kito just jabbers away pleasantly and plays with her toys in her sleeping cage until I go get her. I think it helps that she and Charlie are in a separate room with the door closed. Their windows face south and west which helps a bit too I imagine.

Happy Hatchday sweet girl!

Kito loves to do her tricks. She waves, gives a high five, shakes hands, turns around on a perch both ways, and curtsies. She also lets me sand her nails with a dremmel while she's standing on the perch. That's my favorite trick. Hahaha!

New Dayo Videos - What he does when I work and his breakfast order...

Wow he's a good talker! Apparently from the first video, Cloe must spend a lot of time pestering Dayo. Who is Cloe? -
Godspeed Prince. I hate those night frights. Sorry to hear Spock is under the weather again.

Is a fig and a ficus the same thing?

Happy belated hatchday Georgie. A spoiled parrot is a happy parrot, and a happy parrot is heavenly.

Thanks everyone. She was spoiled today. New toy, new swing, and I filled her buffet ball with shredded paper and treats this morning. After lunch play time and bath, I put a new dried baby corn in her other toy for her to destroy. She got sloppy joes, corn on the cob, and a slice of banana with her supper. And finally, I gave her some baby formula for a bedtime snack.

It seems like I was just handfeeding Kito a couple of weeks ago, and suddenly she's a whole year old. Happy Hatchday to my crazy little monster child.

Finally found the perfect way to put the aviator harness on Jasper!

What a great idea, thanks for posting! -
This is the cage I got for Kito, and I am very satisfied with it and with the eBay seller everila. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260429338329&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT My cage was damaged in transit and he gave me more than enough of a refund to be able to have the parts repaired and re-powdercoated. I see the big picture is no longer the exact cage I got, but the close up pictures are. I especially like the door locks. I would contact him and make sure you are getting the cage with the three bowls and the good locks.

I hope he's just hiding out. Shoo you naughty little hawk!!

Wonderful news! Thank you for the update and I hope and pray Tobie continues on his course to recovery.

Wow, Biscotti is a smart boy! -
Sorry to hear you are having trouble with Jackson. Judygram had great advice on how to deal with the beaking. I'm a big fan of bribery. I would only give him his favorite treat as you are putting him in the cage. You could also try giving him more opportunities to go in for short periods and come out again several times a day just so you can practice more.

Shhh don't tell my husband, he thinks I shouldn't be such a tomboy and I'm sure he'd be happy with the rest of that sentence! LOL! Thanks for the info, I'm glad I don't plan on becoming a vegetarian anytime soon. I'm not giving up my ocassional maodou either.

How adorable! Here in Wisconsin the chickadees will eat seed out of your hand if you sit still long enough. I'll bet wrens would too if you wanted to sit still with a handful of little worms. Ewww!

I make some formula for Kito once a week or so. She gets all excited about it until after she eats a mouthful or two then she's done. I read somewhere that it's a good idea to feed formula or applesauce or something in a syringe once in a while so that if you ever have to medicate your bird you will not have a problem.

Did anyone else look up the author of the anti-soy article on Wikipedia? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Mercola

I threaded a 1/4" piece of leather through Kito's and now she can't take it apart any more. I also like to stuff it full of shredded paper and then just stick a few treats in the holes. She has it completely empty within 15 20 minutes.
