1. Thanks for the update She sounds like such a nice young lady.
2. Yikes, how frustrating when he was flying around out of reach. Congrats again on getting him back!
3. Yeah!! There are wonderful helpful people here to answer all your new mommy questions. My #1 unsolicited advice would be to make sure to weigh him/her every day at about the same time. Kito will be 11 months old soon and I still weigh her every other morning before breakfast.
4. I'm so glad to be able to read the good news. All those prayers worked. Thank you big guy in the sky!
5. Shanlung you made an important point about the difficulty of flying down: The main point is that when our fids fly up a tree or up the rafter and we want to get them down, we stood directly below thinking that it is easier for them as we are nearer. <snip>But if we want to make it easier for them to get to us, it may be better to stay further away so the angle for them should not be greater than 45 degree to induce them to glide down to us instead.
6. I'm Connie Kienast on facebook

7. I'm so sorry Stephen, sending prayers and white light to you and Isaac.
8. Poor Tobie, and his flock. Hopefully someone will have a good suggestion for you. All I can offer is my sympathy and best wishes.
9. Yeah for Yoshi! Just wait until she gets her skills honed! Anytime Kito flies off her cage if she comes directly to me I praise her, pet or play for a bit (her choice of course) and then put her back and tell her to stay. Then I watch carefully and ask her to come to me before I think she's going to launch on her own. If she flies off and doesn't come right to me she goes back on without out a word except stay. Gradually she is staying for longer periods of time. I ask her to come to me at random times. Sometimes she will but sometimes she is contrary so then I just wait a minute or two and ask again. I don't know if that is right or not, but that's what I do. We have a cat so if I can't be watching her she either has to be in her cage or in the play room (we built an indoor screen door) for her own safety.
10. Congratulations on your new baby! Tali is an adorable name. My grey will only step up for anyone else if they have a tasty treat and if she feels like it. I've read there is a "game" where you all sit on the floor in a circle and everyone has treats and ask the bird to step up from person to person to get the treats. It sounds like a good idea to me.
11. Glad to hear Spock is feeling better. I'd love to see a video of Spock's new upside down stunt trick!
12. So then you end up with 3 birds instead of one. We are all entitled to our opinions, and I will still stand by my opinion that a person should get some experience with the easier parrots before purchasing a grey. I wonder what percentage of first time parrot owner + first time grey owners are successfully nurturing happy healthy grey birds. Jay being in the rescue business ought to have a good idea. I'm sure the statistics are much much better for those who are lucky enough to stumble upon this forum. But like everyone else has said, it's your decision and I wish you the best!
13. You have never had a bird before? Not even a finch? In my opinion an African Grey is not a beginner's bird. Start with a parakeet and then a cockatiel or conure. I think the parakeet is the most under-appreciated parrot there is. Did you know that parakeets are actually very good talkers? They have gravelly little voices but once you get used to their "accent" you will be amazed!
14. Kito has a 9 pm bedtime, but she's like a little kid and tries hard to avoid it. I suppose she wakes up whatever time the sun comes up too, but I don't get up until 7. She and Charlie the parakeet chat nicely in their room until I have a cup of coffee in me and treats hidden in her cage.
15. Wow, what a pretty hike! Lucky Cocoa and you. Are those monkeys I hear in the background?
16. Hi Kim, congrats on your new baby. I know how it is to wait and wait - you must be so excited! Do you have your "nest" all prepared?
17. Kito is a brat! She figured out how to get the "nut" off the bottom. It doesn't matter what goodies I put in it, all she wants to do is take it apart, chew on the "nut" and play with the metal rod. I'm afraid she will hurt herself swinging that heavy metal rod around so I had to take it away. Maybe I can string it on a thick piece of leather, otherwise I'm going to have to get rid of it.
18. Sophie the yorkiepoo is going to live to be 20. I'll bet 25% of her diet is Harrison's!
19. Aww, maybe bake them into some birdie bread? Did you tell him how long it took you to make it? Ha ha ha!
20. Wow, what a sweet trusting bird. You are so lucky.
21. What a cutie pie! One thing I would suggest is getting rid of the dowel perch and find (or make out of bird safe wood) a nice tree branch for in his cage. Try to find one with bark or texture that is not slippery and has varying thickness.
22. I wonder if she can ride that horse bridle-less like that out on the trail.
23. After I pull this splinter you owe me big time! Thanks Judy this is going to be fun!!
24. So glad to hear you are making good progress.
25. Me too! Who could ask for a better good luck charm that our sweet Emma.
