  1. A new beginning for you both, exciting times. My advice follows the trend with allowing her to take the lead on interactions. They are great observers of surroundings and activities do grant her that time to get used to her new home, new flock (you and cats) new routines, new sounds, new food offerings it is a whole new world for her. Building trust before pushing step ups or other interactions letting her know she is safe and loved is very important. I think you will do great and no most Greys are not cuddle birds but a few are. I think you will find that like us each bird is a unique individual and this is an opportunity to learn who she really is, hint it may take mere weeks or it may take years to find out all about her. Greys can adapt to most situations if given the time and respect to make their own decisions about anything new including kids.

  9. Great idea Ray, funny how the same bowls and a few other items are cheaper on the small mammal aisle than on the bird aisle. Running the vacuum seems to incite bathing activity among our flock.
  10. Excellent advice S-mom they will work it out for themselves after the separate room intro.
  11. Hy beaks are more like wrench than a can opener they can crack Macadamia nuts which are super hard.

    Baby crow

Love Crows we had a neighborhood Crow when I was a child it used to land on the trash can lid and beg for handouts.
  17. Excellent ideas you have put to use, lucky birds if mine read this they will show up at your door. If you have any disasters in your area that affect what is available for feed your birds will be willing to eat what is available rather than holding out for a specific item they are conditioned to recognize as food. Kudos for being pellet free!
  18. Oh that reminds me that there is another great group on Yahoo, groups.yahoo.com/group/FeedingFeathers

  21. After reading your post it seems that he is stressing when he cannot see you. That may or may not be the root cause of his plucking. Is he getting enough fatty acids, enough humidity or spray baths, enough unfiltered Sunlight. so many posssible causes I would agree that a vet visit would be helpful in case he might have a bacterial, yeast or fungal infection or as it started at his tail perhaps a tail gland problem or an injury to that area if he fell.

  23. Lovely sentiment she will be remembered with appreciation to all she meant to you by many here.
  24. I have seen what they can do creatively to defeat a water bottle so suggest providing both. Have found a large wooden splinter cleverly engineered from a perch and inserted into the nozzle of the water bottle causing all the water to pour out with the suspicious Macaw looking at me like who did that, I have no water.
