  1. I think their physical development keys on being flighted, one of the Greys who ended up with me has lost the last joint of her wing to a bad clip. Result of that injury is balance issues and being easily frightened then falling off the perches.
  2. So much work for Gracie mae got to catch up on her mess making and destruction-way too clean it looks like you have created a challange for her and the gang.
  3. Just make certain that since it is a basement there is not or will not be an issue with mold or mildew as the spores become airborne and can prove deadly to our feathered friends.
  4. They are much tougher than we give them credit for, the see our stress and I think they usually understand when they have to step back a bit. Life is not always extremes it just feels like it from time to time. You mentioned that she like Ryan so it may just be a fun visit for her.
  5. Always and some wicked Weather up your way predicted today. Hunker down.
  6. Should have gotten a quick shot of him with the pistachio on his beak. Happy to hear he is doing so well! On our side of town we only got about 6-7 inches on Monday when the NE side of town got 15-18". Sanctuary is a little muddy but that happens when ever it rains, no rescues required this time. So many birds got their food dishes soaked so out went the wet food. Hate to waste food but it stays so humid and warm it would mildew too quickly. Sigh the food budget took a little hit there. Daughter got a little water in her house and was unable to get to work due to underwater roads and bridges for a few days. She can make it now just takes a long way around. Her dogs are not happy about having to go outside when they are ankle or knee deep depending on the dog, all 3 are rescues and they vary from Irish Wolfhound to a smallish elderly Lab/Shar pei cross.
  7. You have begun taking the winding road to gaining her trust and you have taken learning approach. It will pay off if you keep on the way you are going.
  8. What fun it is to meet a grey fan from South Africa, how did Nonsense get her name?
  9. Sympathy for you, pain is just miserable and suffering is no fun at all.
  10. Turmoil for sure in that situation. Hope Poppy/Buddy finds a happy home. Your bird will find you. Lisa is correct the bands are almost impossible to trace back though once in a while they have hatch date info. .
  11. Phoenix will be ok, having this one less thing to stress about as you don't need more worries.
  12. That was impressive hail, was watching the storm chasers live in North Texas during the storm. Thought about all of you up there hoping all was ok. Scary storm that one. Epic hail pounds Texas, upping damage to nearly $2 billion this month Link
  13. She is living the dream, you are well trained so she is a success.
  14. You are giving everyone a peek into your well earned relationship blooming , thank you for sharing the moment that opened the door to real trust.
  15. Looks good, I scrub mine with white vinegar and any stubborn dirty spots get scrubbed with hydrogen peroxide. You can use detergent water just rinse thoroughly and leave in the sun for a few days to complete the process.
  16. Lovely this progress gives you a great feeling just keep in mind he may do away with them later. Fingers crossed they stay!
  17. Perhaps the saying moderation in all things applies here as well?
  18. Pookie joined us about 7 years ago.
  19. She is becoming the traveling ambassador.
  20. I cannot disagree more, not trying to be difficult but reading this is breaking my heart. We are a loosely related family on here and I believe having a rehomed flock that I am not the only good safe place for these special birds. There are many organizations who go out of their way to place birds in the best circumstances possible and then follow up with site visits. Or there are some marvelous Sanctuaries like Oasis, Project Perry and Naples Bird Gardens that take amazing life time care in huge planted aviaries where our feathered friends can live out their lives with flock bonds. I personally could not condemn any of our non humans to death just because I could be facing death, having had cancer and chemo it is possible. Not attacking you it just sounds like you think you are the only capable person around, birds adapt very well if given a chance. Perhaps some of our members could formulate a way to pass our much loved birds to another Grey family member? From reading so many stories here we get a nice insight into the relationships formed with our birds, cats, dogs, families and each other.
  21. Thank you for the compliment on my Avatar that is Pookie who came to us from an ecellent rescue in New Mexico she was 21 years old and came from a lovely home whose people were getting to sick and frail to continue keeping all their flock. They surrendered some of their least troublesome feathered friends to new homes and retained the most difficult personalities for later. Pookie had no difficulty adapting to either the rescue or her car trip from New Mexico to Houston. Sat on my lap and sang "Old MacDonald had a Farm", meowed like a cat and called me Mommy while enjoying her journey. Right at home from the beginning, she came to us with a habit of plucking her neck and belly when nervous. Now she has mostly re-feathered both areas. You will know when you meet the right bird. It was love at first sight for both of us.
  22. We live with one Timneh and 5 Congo Greys, the Timi is attached to one of our sons but allows head scratches from most of us. He is the most aggressive of all our pets and will go out of his way to pull fur or bite a tail of our long suffering cats and dogs. He chases the other birds and has no fear of any other life form. The Congos are more laid back for the most part and two of them allow anyone to handle them one allows no one and the other two are selective as to whom is allowed. All our birds are either rescues or rehomes and all are loved. Some come from a great home and some have sad memories. No matter what bird you end up with you are on the right path learning as you get closer to your goal, the right bird may find you.
  23. Looking good, still trying to convince hubby we can do this for our flock. He worries about the neighbors.
