Take it slowly he has had a big change in his life and environment coming to live with you. Locate his cage in an area he can see well but have a safe secure feeling. You can cover one corner of his cage to provide a protected area. Yes fresh veggies, sprouted grains, cooked Sweet Potato some fresh fruits lots of spray baths or showers. Let him learn you can be trusted and not feel forced into interactions he is not ready for. Greys may take a while to adjust to new people, new household new foods. Sit near him and talk softly, offer small treats through the bars and most of them enjoy music too. You ahve begun a journey that will be rewarding if you can be patient. Welcome to our Grey world.

A little hint for those with one bird-go to the salad bar at the grocery store and just select a few pieces of what you want to try offering your Grey it sells by the pound so it is a less wasteful approach.

Andy still has active feather follicles so you have a good chance of having a feathered Grey some time ahead. Lots of spray misting or showers, some fresh sprouted foods and lots of love and trust and a little Sunshine.

There is also nothing wrong with putting the food bowl on the bottom of the cage just not under any perches to avoid droppings on the food. Use a heavy crock to keep him from tumping it over.

I would try giving him a cover on at least one side of his cage so he can retreat into a safe zone if he feels threatened. You can also cover the cage at his bedtime but he will still hear you and any activities. A good 8-10 hrs uninterrupted sleep might help him, Sometimes a small sleep cage that is in a separate area is helpful.

Smokey Joe cam from his 2nd home at 2 yrs old due to frightening his person with what he said. They are all special to me Whisper cuddles, Smartee loves my youngest son best but tolerates everyone. Smokey joe loves my middle son & I am merely his servant. Pookie calls for me and loves to play tug of war. Pookie is lazy she would rather call for a pick up service but can fly after years of being non flighted she flew like a rock upon arrival. Whisper, Smartee & Smokey Joe all fly well but don't get enough flight time. Whisper & Joe are both a bit bird aggressive, Smartee goes after the Tiels feet and his landings are kind of rough as one of his feet is not lined up but turned to the side at a 45 degree angle.

LOL Bulimia nervosa but I think this may just be one of those bad habits behaviors he developed while being neglected.

Can you describe how his cage is situated please? He sounds stressed and I am sure you are all stressed as well. Does he play with toys? Is his cage located where he can make visual contact while hubby is home? Or is he situated where he can hear but not see?

You can also purchase those plastic mats that go under office chairs to place under the cage to protect any carpet, and clean easily. I am a Mom and to me the bird is more important than any carpet, why did she even alow a bird in your home unless she is willing to work with you to keep it properlyl? I am still not happy with the Plexi cage idea. I see you love your bird and I respect that. >:>

I know your bird will need a great deal more air flow to remain healthy. The bottom litter can be a dangerous choice as it can grow mold if it gets damp or moist food on the surface and there is a danger of him ingesting it and becoming blocked. Perhaps you can build a plexiglass tray that reaches a height of 5 or 6 inches to surround his present cage instead.

I would add some disinfecting hand cleaner, a pair of bandage scissors in case of an entanglement and some thing with electrolytes in case of dehydration or shock.

Kind of small, perhaps use as a sleep cage if you are able to get a larger one. We always suggest the largest cage you are able to almost afford.
