  1. Pat you are not turning away from the bird in need, you are turning toward your own birds and their needs that will go unmet with the addition. I am very proud of you to know your limit and face hard choices knowing it is best for you and your flock. I have to say, it is hard to know there is any bird living in conditions we wouldn't envision for our own, my own heart is trying to get my brain to agree to help out another. You have my admiration for your strength and foresight.
  2. I have a young bird, do you have any suggestions at how to start bathing them in the sink? We have a vet visit tomorrow and should get the all clear for bathing when the cultures come back.
  3. Jay, that mash was a huge hit. Juno has been a little off his feed with moving to the big cage. He is eating better now that he has a spoonful of warm mash a couple of times a day. The first time I gave it to him he was on my lap eating it from the spoon. Thanks for the idea that made my boy so happy. He had a really messy face and wiped it all over me, but it was worth it to see him eating so much at this time.
  4. Wow, great job for being new to the dehydrating. I haven't used mine yet for the fruits and vegetables, but your stock looks yummy. I will have to get mine out and give it a try. Thanks for the picture, Ana Grey sure looks like she is enjoying herself.
  5. That is certainly being innovative and one step ahead of Misty. Juno has a small perch that he climbs on eagerly every morning, but any day could come that he would change his mind. The water in the cup is a great idea. Juno is six months old and weighs 370 and the vet says he needs to gain some weight.
  6. That was so thoughtful of you to shower him with presents for your birthday. He will learn to be generous and kind to you from all this love and attention. Before you know it Ecko will be buying you all sorts of goodies. Every time a new shopping bag shows up, my husband comments and I tell him, thats what Juno bought for me today, isn't he a sweetheart? Ecko has a great setup and lots of love and attention and you'll get your turn too.
  7. Sunny is certainly a delight. I love how she just chatters along talking to herself, the dogs and anyone who is there to admire her. The Christmas cheer is a nice touch. My very favorite though is the train since we continue to harrass my husband for the train hitting his car oh so many years ago. We definitely will have to teach our bird something along those lines to keep up the next generation of joshing him about that.
  8. Oh happy day to have a fresh new look. Go easy on Dave, that way when he does get the new frame on and one of the little beaks get to it he will cheerfully oblige to repair that too. Think of the bright side, you could hire out the terrible twosome as wallpaper strippers in the future. Better still check with all your friends who are looking for an excuse to redecorate and hire them out to get it started for those who are procrastinating. When they rip off the first strip, it is the best time to call in the new wallpaper books for browsing.
  9. Hi Fiona, welcome to the forum. This is one place where talking about Bonkers is met with enthusiasm for all the wonderful things in store for you. It is also a place where you have lots of support through the uncertain times and people who have had long enduring experience with their grey companions and who willing share their time and advice. I also love his name. Our little guy has been home only a couple of weeks and it is fabulous for us too.
  10. Ha haaha... that was quick Pat. I am really happy for you to find a toy that will help cut back on the time you spend for the big guy who shows his appreciation by chewing them in such a hurry. He really does shine in your care. You have a big heart and generous spirit and your birds are very special and very lucky too.
  11. Thanks Dan, I do use diversions and offer him a substitute, but he is like a little kid finding a time when I am distracted to make his move to my shoulder then stand his ground when I offer to remove him. Once he is compliant about coming down, I will quite enjoy him being up there. He will cuddle against my neck and is very happy and cheerful, but also very determined to give me a bite on the ear to steer me about. I relented today and put a perch up high in his cage and he seems much happier in there. Since I have seen him climb down to the shelf to eat, this is going to work out better for him. He is such a sweetheart. We had an appliance delivery today and he growled fiercely at the men in the house, it was the first real harsh growl I have heard. I guess I have a little guard parrot being protective.
  12. Pat, Chatot is beautiful, his colors are so vibrant they look iridescent. The toys you make are fantastic and if you are getting him something better than all your toys and he'll never need another toy... must be a girlfriend.
  13. I had to look up Emily Pankhurst and I do believe I may have a new hero thanks to Dan. I will be sure not to share the posts with my husband... he will have to join the forum himself. He would quite agree with Dan. Its okay though Dan, now you know I hang on your every word.
  14. Well done Bernie, and thank you. Wishing happiness and blessings for all as you gather with family and friends and celebrate the season.
  15. Lyn, it did look a lot like he had done it on purpose, not a peep out of him. And Dan, you got the gymnast analogy down too, he stretched right up like a little gymnast dismounting from the parallel bars, with panache. It is getting harder to convince him that he doesn't have shoulder privileges. Once he gets up there, he will clamp onto my ear when I try to reach up to escort him back to my lap. I have taken to wearing a sweatshirt over a tee shirt and just turn the sweatshirt inside out and capture him in there when he gets to the ear bite. He is very determined to get on my shoulder and I am very very determined to keep him off until he can be trusted.
  16. It looks like you have a pair of floating African grey angels. Why I believe I see the aura of a halo! The little darlings. LOL. That is an awesome photo, thanks for sharing. I like the disclaimer that no greys were traumatized for the photo... and add to that... don't try this at home.
  17. Uh oh, too much celebrating on his hatchday and he was wound up like a little kid at Christmas. The little toot. I hope it was a one time thing for you too. They do know how to push our buttons and often take delight in doing so, I hope it was just because he didn't want his wonderful day to end. Better luck to you for sleeping through the night tonight.
  18. It is quite amazing to see three living together and sitting within inches of each other. I have had mine such a short time, I am wondering how you do manage to keep up with three. You have my greatest admiration to take care of them so well. Love the photo, thanks.
  19. It does just bring tears to my eyes when he closes his eyes and seems to sigh in contentment when I am rubbing his head. His flying is getting to be very controlled and deliberate. His landing... not so much. When I won't let him land on my head he makes a second or third circuit around the room and starts to get tired. Last night he flew in the open door of his cage and landed on the floor of the cage and climbed right up like he had done it on purpose. LOL. Later as he flew to me, I put my arm out and he was aiming to get on my head. His chest hit my forearm and he did a complete somersault to land on his feet in my lap. Either he is a little daredevil and does this on purpose or he needs more work on the landings. He certainly loves the entertainment factor with all the laughter he brings.
  20. What a sigh of relief this morning when I saw the little ones in the new cage. I kept telling myself you must have moved them and didn't want to ask, but have been going to the web cam several times a day to check and there the little guys are this morning. Wow to Camilla laying another egg, I thought they only had one clutch a year, shows how little I know about the breeder side of our favorite little grey birds. Congratulations on getting the little ones into a cage and on your new addition. They really keep you busy.
  21. Happy hatch day to Chimay! You have to go look in the off topic discussions, other pet forum for Lyn to show you the birthday spread! Of course Chimay needs to be showered with all the gifts from the pet store too. Doesn't time just fly when you are having so much fun with your little one?
  22. Harvey really looks like he is enjoying that palm oil. Do you keep it in the refrigerator Jill? I was wondering because mine is more of a liquid consistency so I mix it with his beans or rice. I may try to get some of it cold to see if it will get more firm so Juno can eat it up plain the way Harvey likes it. Great picture.
  23. Juno eats sugar snap peas, broccoli, squash, peas, carrots and most any veggie I put in his dish. He liked the pomegranate seeds and likes grapes. His number one and two favorties are sweet potatoes and banana. Everything else gets eaten and picked over but if a banana is offered, all the world ceases around him has he savors it and eats every bite.
  24. Spock makes his mash look so yummy we are going to go try it this afternoon. Juno needs to put some weight on and since he is eating a little less after a transfer to the big cage, I will see if this will entice him to eat a little more. Thanks for the idea.
  25. Guapo is adorable and it is wonderful that he is getting along so fine and your daughter is enjoying him as much as you are. Congratulations on his house warming present and all the love and attention all of you are getting.
