1. I love the way he is trying to get the lid off to have the whole thing to himself. Tricky little fellow. We are happy you have that flashing thing so we all get to see your pictures.
2. Welcome home again Timotian and Bobo. The picture is excellent, Bobo is a beautiful fellow.
3. Bernie, please don't get so powerful you explode like the supernova. This thread is a great idea. As most of you know, I was reading the forum for months before my boy Juno came home. I was afraid if I named it after my bird, something might happen and it would be way too sad to change the name, so I chose a name that is totally out of the bird realm, named for the model of my motorcycle.
4. I grew up in Northwestern Pa, both my kids were born in Bradford PA... home of the Zippo lighter.
5. Gosh, all the mayhem I have been missing while tending to my daughter after foot surgery. y'all are running amok. Jill, are you sure the site was really down, or did Judy arrange to have you blocked out for a day? hmmm
6. Bernie you are almost ready for the big leagues. Your boating skills are shaping up nicely. Now I want you to toss out some of those bright orange bouys so you have an obstacle course to test your agility. Also, I saw the red jacket but it was our beloved Bernie, not some bald git... so I am not letting you get away with that. We are the only ones allowed to insult and pick on you. Thanks for the new video.
7. Tam, I am so sorry to know the sadness you and your family are enduring. The vision of him looking up at you and saying "hey you" is just as sweet as anything I can imagine. It is little consolation that you only knew of his illness for a short time, it is always a shock to lose a loved one. My heartfelt condolences are with you.
8. You certainly have a best case scenario for rehoming a precious girl Ipo. One thing to keep in mind that while you are at her mama's house she is in her familiar enviroment and being encouraged by the one she loves the best. When you bring her home, you will have a lot of new things going on and it will take a little more finesse for you to help her adjust. I like your idea to leave her cage as is since it will be her haven while things on the outside have changed. Also, it is heartening to know you can check back with her mama offering advice to help Ipo move toward accepting you as her trusted new friend. Good luck to all of you.
9. Welcome Gran and thanks for joining us to share our lives with the other grey owners here. It does take a while to get to know your way around and it is nice that you have been able to get information for you and Maggie. Isn't it just the most fun ever to have a feathered friend in the house?
10. Juno had a recheck at the vet and we got a call that the cultures were all fine. He just doesn't seem to be feeling well though. I thought maybe the antibiotics made him feel a little quiet and less active. I put a heated perch in his cage since the house has been chilly and he liked it so much he wouldn't come out of the cage for three days. He is eating well, gaining weight slowly, is really friendly, just refused to come off the heated perch. Finally, this morning he asked to come out. My husband says he just doesn't want anyone to get between him and his warm cozy spot... the on your feet lose your seat rule.
11. What a great toy for Biscotti, he is really having fun with the tinkertoy. Just like kids, he likes the package as well as the toys. He is perfectly adorable and certainly kept busy with his bounty. Thanks for sharing.
12. Delma, I am so happy for you and Georgie and your boyfriend to be getting along so well together. The first couple weeks are a little scary with wondering if you are doing enough of the right things, but Georgie will settle in and you will learn what he wants and how to keep him happy. Congrats on your early Christmas present, your boyfriend is paying attention. Enjoy all your special moments getting to know your magnificent little friend.
13. Today is our one month homecoming anniversary. I can't believe how nervous we both were that first week. Things are going great, he settled in fine and PHEW, I didn't break him or anything. Delma, tomorrow is a very big exciting day, can't wait until you have gotten settled in and hear about Georgie and your family getting acquainted.

Post edited by: katana600, at: 2009/12/14 03:38
14. Tiggs has been practicing a lot, he did much better driving the boat today so Bernie could run the video cam. Great job men! Looking good.
15. I would be interested to hear a follow up on the pluck no more. On our first visit to the vet, I asked about some of the issues long term bird owners face and he said he has heard good things about the pluck no more, he said he doesn't know quite how it works but he believes it does help some birds.
16. Thanks for putting a message up for something that has been well done. It is good to know you had such a response. Plus, it helped me put a couple of new books on my Christmas list. I do have a copy of Barbara's Parrot Problem Solver. I read that one first before our bird came home from the breeder so I could see what behaviours lead to problems so I could avoid doing things to create problems. Now would be a good time to start at the beginning again. Thanks again for the feedback on a good experience.
17. Dixie was just a bundle of joy today. While I was watching the video my birds in the other room getting jealous of the company I was keeping in here. Dixie is so pretty and a real delight. Beau is adorable too. I loved how he just pushed the stapler and desk items to the side and concentrated on having his peas. Thanks for the video Robin, it was a great start to my day.
18. Sorry Keri that I don't have any helpful advice since my bird is new. Some people have had success putting a paper towel down and when the bird does his business, praise him and give him a treat. Then wherever you put the paper towel he would know it is his potty place. Other people use a sturdy basket with a handle in the center, line it with paper towels and carry it from one room to the next and that could be his go to spot. I have heard strict potty training is hard on the bird because if they don't get their message across they will hold it long enough to be detrimental to their health. This is just anecdotal based on my reading and not experience, but it would be a good question to ask your vet. Good luck working out a solution with your grey, I know you want what we all do, for our grey to be happy and healthy and safe and balance that with him living in your home. Good luck.
19. Judy slowing down... heck, she would have to stop completely just for me to see where she is ahead of me, much less catch up to her. I love the Judy thread, great idea to have one place to pay homage and keep her speed-rolling along.
20. Thanks, I give a lot of credit to this forum for knowing what to expect, how to wait until he was comfortable before moving forward, innovative ways to get him to eat and how to handle him. Also, he has had an incredible start from the love and care of his breeder. He is just such a lovable little character and gets more at home here every day.
21. Busy day for Juno, he had his first ride in his backpack and had a successful vet check. He has gained weight to 385 grams, a twenty percent increase in two weeks. His gram stain was approved by the vet. He held him and did a throat culture and he carried on frightfully. I hid so he wouldn't blame me! Then when the vet loosened his grip Juno escaped and flew to me for backup. Next, he screeched into the stethoscope and blasted Dr. Donnie's eardrums. LOL. When he finished, I consoled him and called the vet a mean ole troll. So.. Juno is still happy with me but the vet and tech are on the doo-doo list. Best compliment is that he is doing amazingly well for all the changes he has been through in the past three weeks. Hooray for Juno.
22. You all have me laughing too hard to drink my coffee. This is an awesome thread. Either I am too busy with a baby bird and holiday doings or ya'all have too much time on your hands to be so creative. Very impressive.
23. Goodness, one little doctor appt to get me out of the house and I missed so much. Bernie, if a boat is made to be in the water then what does rain have to do with anything? Jill, I'm begging you, please to to the lake with Bernie, name his boat properly, and then video the successful racing just one time, just for me, please please please. Bernie, when she gets there have one bottle of bubbly for the boat and let Jill get the proof from the second one. It is F.A.R.T. after all.
24. Would you believe after going out at 4am, the wrong dryer was delivered? I was just lucky enough to stop in the laundry room before they pushed it against the wall and didn't see the water line for the steam feature. Sears made it right, but my house was torn up all week. It is actually called Black Friday because it is generally the day when merchants accounting sheets go from the red of loss to the black ink of profit. Alternatively, it could be the temperment of the shoppers mindset. LOL.
25. We have had Juno almost three weeks. I also thought he was eating all day. When he had his vet visit, he was underweight and the vet explained that in the wild if they show any signs of illness they will be driven from the flock to certain death, so in times of stress they will show activity of eating even if they are not ingesting the food just to keep the appearance of being fit and well. The best thing is the morning weigh-in every day at the same time after the first big droppings of the day. The vet can tell if he is overweight by feeling the keel bone. I don't know about that yet, but his weight is slowly coming up. When he just went into his big cage, he seemed to stop eating completely, but the dirty water in his cage and the weight on the scale keeps me from being overly concerned about it. The scale is really the only way to tell.
