Harvey may just be trying to train you to be more efficient Jill, get your errands done during the week while you are already out and dote only on him on the weekend. It might take a while, but I have high hopes that you are trainable. In all seriousness though, I am sorry he has resorted to biting, I just got a pinch last week and am still bruised. While I wish it never happens again, I would only be kidding myself and I don't look forward to it in the future. Dan is right about changing things often to keep our greys wondering what we are up to. Good luck with that.

Phew, Joey, good thing you went on to explain, I thought you were calling Jay the strange black thing sleeping all day on the couch, LOL. But no, you said you have him trained better than that. Hahahaha. Once you get your family and flock trained to do your bidding at the sound of a clap, please come train mine.

Yoshi has such a sweet happy spirit and a good nature. Your pictures are just the best. I love hearing how she is doing with you.

That is hilarious, go Chocko. When you do get a video of the pole dancing girl, you'll have to send it to Spock to cheer him on as he gets better.

There is hope that our red-bellied parrot may get along with Kopi, so far there is no aggression, but being friends is a long way off and I don't expect it. The video of Nino was precious, I almost didn't see the little budgie. Beau and Blue are just heartwarming together.

Oh dear, that practice talking gets funny and it is so hard not to laugh. We have the smoke detector down pat, I have to hear it whenever I turn the oven on now... just a warning from the bird to keep an eye on things, and no blackened cajun style either. LOL. Ash will get some laughs if he pronounces his name just so too. Thanks for the laughs from your house.

It sounds as if Tobie has been talking to Spock... helllooo, this is a movie, it isn't real mom and dad. He knew how to make you laugh, hand him the microphone, he's got talent!

Congratulations on defining Pepper's gender. We wouldn't love them or treat them any different, but it sure helps with the pronouns. He is a beautiful boy and certainly is well loved by everyone in your family.

The very picture of strength and grace. Congrats on getting these photos, they are awesome, just like Isaac.

Spock, when you write your book, the logical thing to do is to get a "pen" name... LOL, then you can elaborate and sound as conceited as you like and we'll all laugh because you let only us know it is really you behind the shenanigans. Also... now you can convince Jay to use his pen for the good of the world. When your adoring fans ask for you autograph, you can keep their pens too. It only right for a celebrity such as yourself to have whatever you wish.

I was expecting that Harvey had snipped your hair for you Jill. It is hard to know what the right thing to do for minor first aid, I am praying it doesn't happen unless my vet is open and even then I would like to be sedated myself! Chris, it sounds like you are experienced enough to know how to pull a bleeding and broken shaft and calm enough to carry it out. For me, I am going to stalk my vet so I know where he lives in case it happens in off hours.

We are making progress. He easily steps up but when I step back from his cage, he gets nervous and wants to go back. Last night when I asked if he wanted a scratch he leaned right into me and then let me sit in my chair across the room. For the first time, he just melted into me and reached up to grasp my shirt with one talon. He felt so warm and relaxed against me and let me rub his head for more than a half hour! He is getting more relaxed and trusting every day. Yesterday he said Good Boy Kopi and it was the first time I have heard him say his name. He takes new toys readily as long as they don't have a bell. When I refilled his water dish he said good water and gulped at it before I even set it down. This experience has been incredible and joyful for me.

This is Kopi with me (Dee) when we have had him for two weeks. He was in the mood for his first real cuddle tonight.

Post edited by: luvparrots, at: 2010/03/27 05:09

Just a thought, but when our little grey Juno injured a wing, they put him on metacam for pain relief. I wonder if the vet would give you a prescription and try that to see if he could have some discomfort leading him to pull at this wing, even if there is nothing showing on the xray.

I agree, the waiting is soooo hard. We waited from July to November last year and it was well worth it and as it turned out, it saved my sanity. Then, we waited longer and now that Kopi is here, I know the extra time with the breeder and other birds in the house was a huge bonus for him. It will all be worth it in the long run and it means you have a dedicated breeder who knows what they are doing. All those baby pictures tug on our heart strings. I feel for you being all set up, waiting for the right time. The day you get your call will change your life.

I would love to be able to see everyone else's bird to see how many of their expressions are similar. Yesterday when Kopi yawned, I pretended to yawn, then he did it again and it made me yawn for real. Then he mocked my laugh. I don't know what we did in a past life that connected us to these birds but it must have been really good. Uh oh... what if... he did something really bad and being with me is his karma? LOL
-
Dear little Spock, it is so hard to mind meld when you have so little to work with, your subjects are unarmed. LOL. I love your updates and unique outlook, good luck getting that pen next time. Maybe if you talk real sweet to Jay he will let you have one with the insides removed, I know that is the best part but it is a start and if you have a dummy pen, soon enough you can swap it out with Jay's real one and maybe he wouldn't notice for a minute.

Jill you really got me with that bit about opening the door and letting him fly out. My eyes were wide with horror and my mouth agape. Then when I realized the joke was on me, if I were close I would have loved to give you a bite too. That Harvey is a trickster and now I am sure where he inherited that. LOL. I hope Harvey is successful in training you soon so you learn to do what he says, then all this messy biting business can be finished. I had my first real bite yesterday and I am officially in training too.

Only in the US would we subsidize a parasite who can't get around on her own yet consumes more than most families earn in a month so she can gorge herself. One good thing that came from the article is for me to get back to work on my nordic trac, so that is an improvement here Judy.

I am so sorry that I have no real advice to help you with Charlie because I don't have enough experience. But, what I do know for sure is that you are helping him in every way you know and trying so many avenues to find him some relief. It is devastating to watch him and not understand how to reach him to help. It is such an individual thing that I have great hope for the vet you'll see Friday to help you find the pathway to the root of Charlie's distress. His issues are not a result of your care, but in spite of it. My blessings and best wishes are with you.

Aha, that was my photobucket test shot. So far, so good. He isn't happy about the flash from the camera and it is snowing in Georgia again and overcast. My photos are coming out a little blurry so I will keep trying until we get some good pictures of this guy. He is getting adjusted to so many things I just don't want to push him at all.

What a lucky boy to have his favorite toys on hand. We are learning Kopi's favorites so we can stock up at the next bird fair in May. He liked hearing Ecko on the video too. You got some neat looking toys, I even saw some I would play with too. Ecko is a handsome lad.

That Josey is a funny one, it isn't about it being red but being little, LOL. You go girl! As long as she doesn't comment on the size of my backside, I am safe for a while longer. That is funny Judy, Josey is a cutie.

Yippee, I rejoiced when I saw the link come up and discovered for sure it was the site and not just my link. I missed all of you too and was feeling very grateful knowing a lot of people are working hard to get us connected again. Hooray for our forum techs and moderators.
