We'll keep you and Kopi in our prayers!

Aww! Averi's favorite word at the moment is "good morning!". I think this is because when I get her out of her night cage, I always say "Good morning!". Now she says"Good Morning!" etremely loud and clear when she's ready to get out of her cage! Averi started talking about 3 months ago. And for the two months after she said her first word she stuck only with that word. Though, in the last six weeks she's picked up at least a dozen new phrases. I also noticed she practices most while I'm showering and she's sitting on the rod!

Ahh got it. I was thinking Alo got placed in a pet home due to chickhood abuse and Kyo for parrot ADHD, but the fourth time I read the book was a couple months back!
-
Wasn't Kyo the one who had parrot ADHD and was placed in a pet home? My favorite stories were also the nut story and the color grey story!

Aww Jasper's just five days older than Averi! It'll be crazy to look back on this video, and think wow he sounds so much better!! The difference in clarity from when Averi started talking three months ago and now is like night and day!
-
Haha I understand where your moms are coming from! I refuse to give Averi any type of poultry, even though my mom has tried to convince me otherwise. I haven't even been able to bring myself to eat poultry!
-
Aww how sweet! What's Jasper's hatch date? Averi's about a week away from 9 months too!
-
I agree that's it's probably more that people with younger greys have more questions. Does anyone know who has the oldest grey on the forum?

I'm so sorry to hear about Ecko. Do birds tend to molt around the same time of year? And do most birds tend to pick at their breast area? Averi's going through her (first) molt as well. Her back feathers started looking rough, and our vet said it's due to the molt. We started adding oatmeal to her bath water every other day, and it's seemed to due the trick. The picking hasn't continued the last couple weeks.

Jshendrix- I don't think Jayd was trying to offend you. He's a very knowledgeable bird owner and he was trying to be of help. A lot of people do not realize the dangers of having clipped birds outside unharnessed. I think Jayd wanted to make you aware of the dangers, in case you didn't know. If you understand the dangers and choose to do so anyway, then that's your choice. Please take all the cautions as if you were free flying your bird; and even more so, as your birds probably do not have much flight experience. All of us here are grey lovers and we'd hate for you to lose one of your precious birds. No one's out to get you and we are glad you have shared your greys with us; they're all gorgeous and look to be very happy birds!

It will be after he goes through his first molt, which will happen between his first and second birthday.
-
Aww how adorable! All three of your greys seem to get along quite well! Congratulations on the new addition and welcome to the family!

I find it unimaginable that someone could do that to other living creatures. Here is a happier update, though! http://www.parrots.org/flyfree/parrots-released_feb20.html

I saw this on another forum and thought others might be interested in reading it. It's really awful what lengths mankind will go to for a little bit of money. Be warned that some PICTURES ARE GRAPHIC. http://www.parrots.org/flyfree/african-grey-parrots-illegal-trade-continues.html

How much should a CAG weigh? sm/md/lg body types...

I also worry about Averi's weight. She's so active, and even though she eats well I still tend to worry. She weighs in between 375-390 as her norm weight. The vet said between 385-400 is her healthy weight for her height and size. Though, she also said not to worry if she falls slightly below that, since she's flighted and gets lots of exercise. I think feeling the keel is great for people with experience, but knowing their ideal weight is beneficial too. -
I don't have a a TAG, but Averi is on the smaller side at 378 grams!
-
Wow, I was really impressed with her selection! Loads of toy parts, thanks for the link!

Averi has a shower perch, and will sit there under the stream of water. She normally stays for a couple minutes and then flies and lands on the rod. She likes to practice talking while she sits there, too!
-
Lol, love it!! Averi would definitely join in. Just today she hit me smack dab in the forehead while I was working on algebra 2 homework! We also considered staging an avian "minute to win it". Last week we hung monkeys, from Averi's barrel of monkeys set,off our bird proofed lighting fixture and we timed her to see if she could throw all the monkeys down in a minute. She was quite successful!

Yellow eclectus mutations http://www.landofvos.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6437 This mutation probably isn't what you saw in the store, considering the distinct green spots, but I figured people might find this mutation interesting. From what I've found they are produced from normal-colored parents.

Aww how exciting! She's gorgeous and obviously wears her aviator very well! That's something I'm still working on with Averi!!
-
While I firmly believe that any parrot, but greys in particular, should be left unclipped, I do respect people that have researched this subject and decided a flighted bird is not for them. I feel a lot of birds are clipped due to lack of knowledge on the owner's part, but it seems you've looked into it. Congrats on the addition of Jasper, he's quite adorable!

Make sure the breeder you decide on is reputable. The last bird fair I was at, a "breeder" was selling grey babies for $400, because they weren't perching "right" (feet deformities). The people were eating them up simply because the other breeders were asking over twice as much for their healthy babies. Not all breeders are created equal.

My Averi is from Dave and she's been more amazing than we could have ever imagined! If you're looking for a well socialized, healthy, and gorgeous baby look no further!
