  1. Thank you guys!! That's my favorite photo from when she was a baby. First place is front of the calendar and a $100 gift certificate to 'my bird safe store'. 2nd-11th places get the remaining months. While I'd love the gift certificate, I'd be more than content with her picture in the calendar!
  2. Averi's only ever gone into Petco and Bird Fever (local bird supply store). We do our best to obey the no pets signs. As far as a lot of people; she goes to parks, bird class, 4-h, and her favorite is our local ice cream place. She also loves scooter rides in the summer.
  3. Thank you everyone!! Averi and I really appreciate it. The forum's great and has a lot of fun people (mainly from BB, as you probably noticed).
  4. I entered Averi in a bird calendar contest. We'd love your vote if you have time and would be so kind! Just visit the link, register (no spam or annoying e-mails-I promise!), and vote for #3!! http://www.parrot-crazy.com/forum/showthread.php?2898-Photo-Contest-POLL!-VOTE-NOW!-)&p=40603#post40603 Mods- If this isn't allowed, my apologies, please delete!
  5. Congrats on the new bird. Picking him up asap sounds like it'll be best for him. As far as renaming, I probably would in your situation. Most likely he assosciates his name with something bad (i.e. "Shut up Mr. Grey >gets squirted with water<). He also is still young and will probably figure it out pretty quick. Moving in with you is a new beginning for him, and a new name seems fitting.
  6. I was thinking albino, too. But can a bird, or anything for that matter, be half albino? I was shocked that she's still there after five months with how sweet she is, but I think it may have something to do with the fact she hasn't started talking (she's only about eight months). The birds that seem to sell the fastest in this shop are the ones who talk.
  7. By the way, to see the pictures better just click on them...
  8. About five months ago a friend mentioned to me that there was a grey in one of our local pet stores. Ever curious, I went to check her out. The poor thing was scared to death, but with just a couple soothing words she was offering her head for scratches and begging me to allow her to step-up. She was just the sweetest thing. We were just starting to consider adding a second grey at this point, and I couldn't help but inquire about her. She had been in the store for a couple weeks and was $1500. I left empty-handed. One of the most peculiar things I noticed about her was her pink toes. Some of her toes looked like they lacked pigmentation and all four of her front nails were white. I also noticed that her tongue was pinkish-white. Yesterday we were about and about and we drove by the same pet store. I couldn't help myself and went in to see what birds they had. My same pink-toed grey was there. Even sweeter than before she rubbed her little head all over my fingers and wiped her beak on me. I inquired about her and was disappointed to hear the same $1500 price named. She was born March 8th, and has spent all of her post weaning days in that darn pet shop on a dingy T-stand. My heart is broken over this sweet little grey. I did think to snap some pictures while I was there of her feet. Does anybody know why they look this? I assume it's something genetic ??
  9. Thanks for the info, I submitted a pic of Averi and her pumpkin!
  10. She's constantly amusing us. This morning she started in with "C'mon Averi!" We are def keeping track of everything she says for her scrapbook! It's going to be huge, I've already done a dozen pages and I I've only scrapbooked through her first bath (5 wks and 6 days old).
  11. The other day my mom was bird-sitting Averi in the office, while I was doing a chemistry experiment. I walked into the office to ask my mom a question. Averi was sitting on the top of the door, and immediately bent her head down for a scratch. Her exuberance for a head scratch caused her to slide/fall off the door. Being flighted, she just flitted back around to sit on the door. I looked over at my mom and was like "Averi just fell off the door!" my mom looked over at Averi and said "Averi why would you do such a silly thing?" Averi looked over at my mom, cocked her little head and said in quite a miffed tone "I don't know!". My mom and I looked at each other in disbelief and burst out laughing! She'd never said this before. The next day, Averi flew off her stand, while I was doing homework. I heard lots of flitting and stuff flying so I caledl out "Averi?". Getting up to see what's going on, I hear Averi say perfectly clear, "It's alright." Another first! At ten months, Averi is constantly amazing us with her vocab!
  12. Glad you posted this, I was afriad it was just my computer.
  13. Aww! As soon as I saw the photo I thought of Alfie! Adorable pictures.
  14. Very cool story. Greys never cease to amaze me.
  15. Lol. Averi will sometimes lift her foot up and "grab" my face, very gently. She'll then rub her beak all over my nose. I think the whole grabbing my face is so I can't turn away. It's very sweet, even if a bit odd! We also do tummy kisses!
  16. What a gorgeous Zon. I can't even imagine having 9!
  17. Aww, congrats! I was wondering how your grey search was going. He's gorgeous.
  18. That's a good point Katana. If the man is really looking out for the parrot, he could easily develope a relationship with him without upheaving him from the home he's known for the last nine years. I can't ever imagine leaving Averi behind, quarantine laws or not.
  19. I have a size medium, hot pink aviator harness for sale. I bought it for my african grey and it's really too big. She's a slender 380 grams, and the small seems to fit better. She's worn the harness probably a dozen times and it's in very good condition. I'd love to trade it for any color, size small or will sell it out right. I paid $34.95 plus tax orignally, and am asking $25 plus $3 shipping (a total of $28 if you need it shipped). I'm happy to include the aviator DVD with it (very informative), which teaches you how to properly introduce the harness to your bird. I'd prefer to do a paypal payment if possible. I'm located in Indiana. Please pm me if interested.
  20. Aww, congrats she's a cutie! Keep up the harness training!
  21. Aww!! I definitely missed the Grey in the first picture!! I was like no pics together?? Congrats on a happy flock!
  22. We use mats in both Averi's cages and our sugar glider's cages as well. They work really well. We spot clean them during the week and hose them down on the weekend. We've used puppy pads and newspaper previously and this really eliminates a lot of the mess.
