Is someone coming to check on Lucas? I personally wouldn't leave him alone the entire weekend. Could a neighbor come and check on him and make sure he has clean water and fresh food?

I would buy as big as you can afford if your grey spends a lot of time in the cage. I would def check your craigslist for a great deal, but make sure you disinfect!!

Averi's first word at five months was Averi. Now at almost eight months, she says good bird, pretty bird, Averi, Hi, hello, hi Averi, good morning, and bye bye. We haven't formally trained Averi to say any of these things but these are all common phrases we say to her. She is also out almost all day every day and is talked to non-stop.

We set Averi's stands up in the tent so she tends to leave the netting alone. She has climbed on it a bit, and it hasn't snagged yet, but I wouldn't trust it for exessive climbing. Though our tent is the pop up kind, so the netting isn't the heaviest duty.

Aww how sweet! Averi has a flight suit, but you have to put it on her a couple times a week to keep her used to it!

We recently purchased a dome top cgae to replace Averi's night cage. To be honest, besides for the looks, which I must say I prefer, I haven't found any true bonuses to a dome top compared to a flat-topped cage (her day time cage is flat-topped and doesn't have a play stand on top). Though I do prefer the dome tops to the closed top cages, because Averi loves hanging upside down. All and all I find flat-topped cages and dome-tops to be awfully similar, while closed tops are less preferred.

I hope the breeder comes to her senses and realizes this is what's best for Jakob. Especially now with the leads Pamela has given you, you have the potential to do wonders for Jakob. Wishing you the best and that all goes well.

Averi gets Roudybush maintenence, which was what she was weaned on to. She also gets veggies, fruits, whole grain pastas/breads, beans and nuts as treats.

A vet visit will definitely set your mind at ease if it's nothing. We'll keep Sully in our prayers!

Hmm I haven't heard anything on hay either. Though I can see how it would be entertaining for a grey, it's like a giant preening toy!

Ha, yes I guess we do! We love Dr. Cook, she's been so good with Averi. And we just lucked out that Barbara is visiting Indy in October. I still hope to get their videos as well, just to back up everything we learn!

I think both would be great. Averi and I are taking bird behavior 101 classes with Dr. Ellen Cook starting next week (She's Averi's vet), and are doing an all day clinic with Barbara Heindenreich.

I think it all boils down to personality as opposed to gender!

They're both wonderful books! I love Alex and Me, but The Alex Studies were a great insight into Alex's training. Irene, Alex, Kyaaro (sp?), Alo, and Griffin were also featured in the training video, Training Your Parrot The Alex Way. It was really good and very entertaining. My grey, Averi, watched the entire thing while sitting on my knee; which is crazy considering she's an overly adventurous, get in to everything type bird. Gotta love her!
