  1. Great pics! I've enjoyed them immensly! Hope Beau will play like that.
  2. I love using the newspaper for cage liners. It's large, quick to open up and spread out, easy to pick up, and works wonderfully. Usually the news isn't fit to print much less read so pooping on it is perfect. Also - layer many pages on top of each other and then you only have to pick up the soiled ones and you're done for the day. The little bit of effort to layer it is easily made up with the "layered" removal.
  3. Sending prayers and hugs your way Greg for you and Lily. I hope all is going to be better tomorrow and she will recover quickly from this illness.
  4. What a lovely poem, very beautiful and heartfelt. Thank you for sharing Jess, it touched me and I appreciate your caring and sharing with all of us.
  5. I had the shop order extra bowls to fit my cages when I got each cage - one for the cage, one for the wash - safe and easy to keep clean - and I use regular dish soap but rinse very well and dry as soon as done washing.
  6. Well before I had Beau, I had already decided on a travel cage for Dixie, and with him going to the vet tomorrow it's arrival today was perfect! Here's a quick pic! It's from Kings cages and is completely knockdown - was very easy to assemble and is lightweight enough that I can carry it without any problems.
  7. lovethatgrey wrote: I agree - I've removed all of the seed skirts from all of my cages (4). While they catch some of the food - most of it is thrown out away from the cage. The skirt keeps the wet stuff which gets trapped between the skirt bottom and the cage - impossible to clean properly - and I end up hitting my leg/shin on them when I move the cage to clean under/behind. Otherwise - love the cage you've picked out for Coral. I'm glad she's adjusting to it and doing well. Great pick!
  8. What a wonderful cozy! Big question - where did you get it? I love it - would be great to have in Dixie's and Beau's and Blue's cages - especially after a bath!
  9. What a beautiful card your mom made, and it's a great present for to remember the day your baby came home. Time drags when you are excited. We're all waiting in anticipation with you!
  10. Ollie's gorgeous! Thanks for sharing the wonderful homecoming with us and the great fideo! Keep us up to date on Ollie's progress!
  11. I so wish today was Wednesday - I hate the waiting part. Since I clipped the two flight feathers that were remaining on Beau's right wing he has not messed with any of them. His left wing is perfect except for a little ratty on one feather from being in the smaller cage at the shop. Yesterday he "enjoyed" his first bath. While he didn't fight or argue with it, I'm not sure he was entirely happy, but his mood seemed much calmer than previously. He played more and ate more. His weight this morning was 394 down from 397 yesterday. Not sure if it's because he played more or not, but he was definitely more active. This morning he clumsily flew down from his cage and climbed the ladder to Dixie's window swing. He likes it as much as she does. She is standing watch while on her boing, not at all bothered that he is there.
  12. OK OK, so it looked like a solicitation for a pitcher of margarita's, especially since he chose the lime instead of the banana or the orange or one of the apples. Forgive me. Great picture of Harvey - definitely enter it into a contest - he's sure to take first prize for healthy eating. (Aside from the fact that you started F.A.R.T. I don't know why I went with the tequila)
  13. Harvey is telling you - I have the lime - you get the tequila - PARTY TIME PARTY TIME!
  14. Thanks Dave, I guess I was going overboard a little. The birds are only in the bathroom when they shower (every other day) and I can easily close the doors and use the exhaust fans.
  15. One of the best way's to exercise your bird is to hold their feet while they are perched and let them flap their wings. Sounds weird, but my birds love to just stand and flap, flap, flap. This builds up their stamina and exercises their muscles as well as helps their cardiovascular systems.
  16. Well General Beauregard Grey (Beau) has been home for one week. He went three nights straight without shredding any more of his wing feathers, and with the help of aloe gel, it seemed to be working. Unfortunately, he decided to shred one of the remaining two flight feathers on his right wing and I had to clip it off and the last flight feather itself. He had chewed them from the inside of his wing to the tip. With the application of the aloe gel I have been able to examine his wing closely and will be taking Beau to see Dr. Jose (AV) on Wednesday. After a conversation with him he wants to examine the wing and possibley remove the remaining feather shafts. He feels that the chewed remains are creating the intense irritation that causes Beau to continue to chew on them. We will see the outcome after the visit. Unfortunately, aloe will not soften what remains of the feather itself. My biggest fear about the visit on Wednesday will be that Dr. Jose wants to clip Beau's left wing to "match" his right wing. This is where I need the advice of those who have had grey's who have had chewed and barbed feathers on one wing. On the bright side, Beau is eating much better than he was while in the shop. His hand feedings are more for comfort than for hunger, he will take about 3 bites of the formula and happily go to his pellets and eat them. His weight is a little lower than I would have expected for a male grey, 397 this morning, but has been between 395 and 400 consistently since I brought him home. As a comparison, Dixie who eats like a pig, weighed in at 392 this morning. If there is more information I should ask Dr. Jose about this particular problem that I may not have thought about, please chime in, I don't want the feather cheweing to become a habit and since I clipped those remaining two feathers he does not appear to be chewing as much. Any advice or comments are greatly appreciated.
  17. he wouldn't have "8" babes to his name and the following he does. Did you give Tiffany's your credit card yet? I have another request - Dixie want's her own leg band of emeralds. She thinks they will go nicely with her red tail - getting in the mood for Christmas ya know.
  18. Has anyone used or heard of "naturals" by simple green? I have been trying to find something to clean my bathroom with that wouldn't hurt the birds and came across their line, but haven't bought any since I didn't know how safe it was. It is supposed to be made for "100% naturally sourced ingredients." Any advice? Until then, I'm still using water, vinegar and baking soda.
  19. I'll be happy with diamond earrings, preferrably with blue saphires. Maybe a little on the dangly side so Dixie, Beau and Blue can play with them...lol.

    Freddy Here

Freddy - could you send me the recipe for that orange smash stuff - I think it would be very good for me. Especially since I plucked my breast after I got a crop burn. Mom coats me with 100% aloe gel on my wing. She's taking me to the vet on Wednesday because I've chewed all my flight feathrs from my right wing. Maybe Dr. Jose will be able to help with something. Anyhow, orange smash sounds good, and I'm glad to hear you're doing so well with Maggie and Jay, they are great people from what Mom tells me. Congrats on the new digs! General Beauregard Grey
  21. Ben has become accustomed to the gourmet pellet and is telling you in not so nice a way that she prefers filet mignon to ground beef!
  22. My office has become my bird room - and the birds have areas for them and only them. My computer and desk are in one corner of the room so I spend most of my day with "the birds." To prevent my flighted birds from leaving I did hang plastic chain across the door and just walk through it. I also have a baby gate on the door to prevent the dogs from coming into this room. As a safety measure, all electrical cords for the computer and lights are hidden by conduit specifically for wiring. On one part of my desk I have a table top playstand. The floor is porcelan tile with a small area rug (inexpensive) and I use plastic desk protectors in front of each cage to catch poops and wet foods (veggies, fruits) as they all like to eat in and out of the cage. I have numerous hanging toys located throughout the room and a leather chair to relax in and cuddle my babies. This is "my" idea of an office/bird room. I can do what I need to do for school and still spend quality time with my babies.
  23. I'm so glad that you looked at the entire situation before making your decision on flighted or clipped. While in a perfect world all of our birds would be flighted, but then again, in a perfect world, we probably wouldn't own birds, but they would be free to fly in their own environment and protected from all the evils of the world. Taking the proper precautions and looking at the entire situation is what a responsible grey owner should do as well as the research before getting the bird. I would continue to do research, ask questions, and read this forum as much as possible so you will be more informed as to the potential situations that may come up. Congratulations on your new baby!
