This is a great thread. I've always been a "bird person" and although I like dogs I'm not really into them enough to keep one. I've always wanted an AG because to me they are the king of pet birds for their talking abilities and the way their antics make you smile or laugh. I never actually thought I'd own an AG because of how expensive they are, however I had a "big birthday" this year and hubby came into a little money and decided to get me my longed for grey. Incidently, I like macaws too but my house isn't big enough for one of those ;-)

Aww Jude I'm sorry to hear you weren't that impressed with the vet. Hopefully this visit will be enough to set Josey on the straight & narrow and that she will behave herself without needing the use of the collar, I hope so. At least the other vet is closer to you eh?

I wouldn't worry too much about it for now, 5 1/2 months is very young and you are still getting used to each other. In answer to your question though yes they do get moody days ie. Beau is 9 months old and yesterday (Tues) he was a real sweety but he was a little bu@@er on Monday and biting quite a bit, I got fed up with it in the end and put him back in his cage. In short it's normal :laugh:

Oh Pat, I feel for you I really do. No one looks after their fids better than you and you shouldn't beat yourself up about this, it was an accident pure & simple. If this had happened to me I think I'd have done pretty much what you did. Ventilation is the best thing for them as is moving them to another part of the house which isn't always possible I know. I would've thought that if it were that serious you would have seen the effects by now. The 02 drops sound like a good idea also if I were you I'd give the vet a call for advice. Thoughts and prayers without question go to you and your fids Pat.

Great vids Dan. Interesting to read your comments on how your two were introduced. I am at that nervous stage, life would be so much easier to have them both out together but I'm afraid they will fight - I don't think Beau would but Argyle thinks he's bigger than he is lol. If I stepped in to seperate them I think I could well come off worse :ohmy:

Not all birds mimic "human speak" though do they, canaries for instance...

But Sheila, shouldn't all birds do this then?

They greet you when you come home. 10. They make you love them. 11. They are a very important member of the family. 12. They cheer you up when you're feeling down. Can anyone add to this list?

Some of these reasons are truly astounding. Of all there are only a few I would consider "valid" resons. 1. A serious allergy 2. Landlord wouldn't allow birds 3. Bird started biting baby/children Some other "valid" reasons could've been avoided before buying the bird or before adding another pet ie. why would anyone buy a bird if they already own a cat or visa versa? They are KNOWN enemies, I realise it can work but it's a risk. Why would anyone buy a bird if they can't afford the vet? It's obvious that some pet owners fail to look at the bigger picture or think it through, in fact some pet owners treat their pets as an accessory or household ornament. Shocking!

...just make sure she has plenty of fresh water, iced water might be an idea if it is hot.

Rhonnie, I'm delighted for you and Bill that there is nothing serious wrong with him. As for Ceasar please don't give up hope or trying to find him. Our fids are unclipped but one rule we have here is NEVER EVER open the internal door at the same time as an external door is open. For those who have a busy household with lots of kids coming & going it probably is best to clip your bird's wings but as Dave has already pointed out, that is no guarantee your bird won't escape and if he does he has far less chance of survival.

OMG what a gorgeous bird! How could anyone possibly be cruel to this lovely fid??
