Chronic feather-picking Amazon I want to adopt
PekingeseMama replied to PekingeseMama's topic in Cricket's Amazon Room
The only problem is the shelter says he HATES men, and from what I saw at the store today when kids were around, he hates children, too. I have 3 kids....I wonder if he'd learn to tolerate them, at least? -
Chronic feather-picking Amazon I want to adopt
PekingeseMama posted a topic in Cricket's Amazon Room
I work at PetSmart, and many animals come in that I'd love to give a forever home to. For the first time since I've worked there, we've held an adopt-a-thon where a chronic feather picking Amazon hybrid was brought in. The poor little fellow is naked on all of his chest, down to his legs, and on much of his back as well. It's so bad that they've lowered his price from $600 to only $250, because of the way he looks. I know nothing about this condition of feather destruction, as my Grey and conure (thank heavens!) don't have this problem. Can anyone here give me advice on the special care this bird might need? Do you think it's advisable to adopt a parrot that is known to have problems? He bends his head down for me to pet him every day, and pins his BEAUTIFUL eyes when I'm speaking to him. He barks along with the rest of the dogs in the store, which I find hilarious, and speaks a little bit, too. I think I'm already in love....but is that wise? Here is the link to his picture and info....His name is "GUAPO" LOL which means "handsome" in Spanish! I love it, even though he looks like a plucked chicken, he's beautiful to ME! http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=14938798&mtf=1

Post edited by: PekingeseMama, at: 2009/11/15 04:59 -
I, personally, would not view the video, or any of that filth that is on YouTube. I find it vulgar and ridiculous. Just as I would try to refrain from using that type of language around my children, I also refrain from using it around my Grey. It's just common sense. If one of my kids started repeating that word, I'd be very upset. Someday, Brittany, you are probably going to be a mom yourself, and you're most likely going to view this whole scenario with shame and embarrassment then. What would you do if your employers (you are a nanny, you babysit children, right?) happened across this video you posted? What is funny to you at 19 is not very humorous to those of us who are older and more experienced. I've never posted a negative comment until now, but I feel like Talon was being attacked and I come here to find encouraging, useful advice...not garbage. I hope posts such as yours will be deleted before I come across them next time, they're useless to me. I'm sorry, but that's how I feel. If I had to come across silly posts such as this every time I came to the board, I'd definitely delete my account.

Charlie looks so angelic in that picture! Funny how they learn to say phrases to get out of the cage! My Dodo will repeat, "Wanna come out!" over and over until someone grants his wish! Then he'll say it again when he's out, and when we tell him "You're already out!" He'll just laugh and laugh. LOL Gotta love him!

How awful! I'm so sorry!

Mine cries out very LOUDLY each time I go near the door to leave the house, and I can hear him up until I get into the car and drive down the road! It's SO sad! But then when I come home, he and the conure are the first to call out these happy shrieks to greet me as well! That's nice!

Aww, how sweet looking that baby TAG is! I love those baby days! The toys look like a lot of fun, maybe Ecko will come around in time and enjoy playing with some of them!

I plopped down on the sofa a couple of nights ago, worn out from another 9 hour day at work. I have to admit I wasn't paying much attention to Dodo, my 1 year old CAG. I was lying there watching tv, and all of a sudden I hear the words, "You wanna come out? You wanna come out?" I jump, surprised by the question, and Dodo is hanging on his cage door looking at me intently. LOL He was asking to come out of his cage! For the first time ever! I immediately jumped up and let him out, and now he says "Wanna come out" anytime he's locked up in the cage and wants out. He knows he's going to get his way when he says it, too! Just wanted to share with everyone!

That picture of Granny and Ruby is adorable! Love their playstand!

In the beginning when we first got our baby CAG, he preferred my husband, too. He'd spend all of his time outside the cage on my husband's shoulder, and didn't stay with me for very long periods of time. Now, however, that's all changed! He doesn't have a thing to do with my husband and won't even let him get near the cage, except to let him out! He's chosen me as his one and only, and everyone else beware, he will bite them all if given the chance. So your CAG might change her mind over time as well.

I bet that cat is wandering around looking for another cat!

LOL So many times I'm in a rush to get to the school to pick up the kids, that I don't bother to check the back of my shirt, either. I'm glad I'm not the only one this happens to!
-
He's simply one marvelous bird!
-
I've never seen a playstand quite like that one, and I've been looking on Ebay for months. I think it's a great deal!
-
He's so beautiful!
-
Such cute greys you have!
-
My grey won't let anyone near him but me. Everytime someone new gets near his cage, he makes this shrieking sound. It's awful, scares people to death, too! He even does this with my dad, who is here pretty often. So I think that Nelson has just decided to be a one person bird, like mine has. My CAG is the sweetest bird in the world, but only to me. LOL

LOL He's in love!

I, too, loved that swing!!! I haven't seen anything like it in stores, and I work at PetSmart!

Harley is simply breathtaking! I'm sure he'll thrive under your care! Thanks for sharing the pictures with us, I've been keeping up with all of your posts just to see them and hear how it's going!

Can't wait to see new pictures of Harley! Congratulations!

Congrats! I remember those little baby days, how fun! -
Dodo doesn't say I love you yet, either, though I tell him that ten times a day at least! He just cocks his head sideways and looks at me intently. I think it's so sweet how they will say things and really *understand* what it is they're saying! I'm sure they really do love their parronts!

My Dodo is a picky eater, too. Just keep offering the veggies, and he'll eventually try some of them, hopefully. Congrats!
