HI Guys, I wanted to check woth you on exactly the same issue, but Im very short in time recently. Kookie has been loosing from one feather to 3 or 4 a day, assorted sizes, a total of about 20 Feathers in the past 2 weeks. for 2 days nothing, again toay I found 4. I will attach pictures of them, but I am not sure if this is a normal molt. Kookie is around 5.5 years old now, and is a very Happy and Healthy grey. We visitied the et las week, and he voted him as the prettiest feathers in all Abu Dhabi. He even requested a couple of pix to post in his clinic... we have done an examination, vet says things look perfect, he has taken a poop sample for lab test, and a blood sample in a very impresive way. He didnt have to sedate kookie for that, he simply pricked him with a very small needlelike thing just above his nail on his talon, and took barely a tiny drop of blood and put it on a pce of glass for the lab to test. He says these tests are suggested once a year just to make sure his health is immaculate. We also did a beak and nail trim which Kookie hated, but left him looking great and feeling softer on my hands when he steps up. Im still awaiting the test results, but wanted to show you the feathers and get your opinions also. Maybe Im just freeking out for nothing... Anyway have a look at the feathers...

Post edited by: ranaz, at: 2009/12/04 16:49

Thank you Dave for your clarification, I guess you have settled things once and for all, and we wont ask about it any more Dark or silver, large or small, we love our greys and it doesnt matter

This thread is interesting, so guess there might be some differnces between thecongo and the cameroon greys. Hope to har more from members on this. Thanks Steve, so you say Misty is not very loud...good for you, cos Kookie is so loud, he will drive me deaf very soon. When i say loud its not only the whistling that ripps off your ear drum, its even his speach which is very loud in general. The funny thing though is that early morning, when he is in his sleep cage covered in a blanket, he talks and sings with very low voice, as if he kows Im still sleeping...very cute..

Post edited by: ranaz, at: 2009/11/25 14:07

Hi Karina, Karma to you for rescuing the poor thing. Whats her name? I guess after the life shes been living, anything you do to her should be appreciated. Just be patient and loving and gentle, sit by her cage, talk softly to her, give her treats like almonds and shelled peanuts. You will figure her favourites out pretty soon. She will learn to trust you and in some time you will be great friends, dont push her to do anything and dont force her, once she is relaxe in her new atmosphere and start to trust you, things will be different. The biting is just a reacion, shes frustrated, boured, and probably depressed. A little love will do wonders you will see. This forum is a great place and yo will find lots of support and good load of helpful information

Kookie is rather large and very light in color, my brothers grey on the other hand, Coukoo is petite and very dark. Ive heard that the smaller darker ones, have more speech abilities, although their voice is generally lower. They are able to repeat long sentences and their vocabulary count is much more. Kookie, wo is large and light is very lound, you can hear him around the block I would say... What do you say???

Thanks guys, yeah thats true, Kookie is holding a mirror, and checking himself while he preens Its very funny the way he does it

Its very cute how our greys use speech, and its amazing how they can catch the voice tone and pitch. I guess mostly Kookie has his own, although he sounds like me in some words

Sorry Jungle dreamz but I couldnt open the video link though I have tried 3 times. Kookie makes a noise just like he is saying: "hisssssss, hisssss......" this is the closest I can describe......

Does your grey makes a hissing sound when he wants his head scratched? I though only mine did, I thought it was an attempt to say scratch, but I was surprised to hear the same his from a friends grey when his head was being scratched... So I just wandered, is it a common thing they do when they are enjoying a head scratch?? Kookie saying Bye Bye

Hi Everybody, Was listening to Kookie chat today and it just occured to me how some greys are able to immitate voices in a way that you wouldnt recognize if it is the human or the grey speaking. My brothers grey Cookoo can immitate several voices so he can sound exacly like my brother, or like his wife , or like their friends...etc. Kookie on te other hand can immitate me in few words, but mostly he says the words in a strange voice, sounding like a robot or like a rough mans voice. Hee even sings the words sometimes and combines them in a funny way. He mumbles long sentences, that are not clear, and he takes some words and says them in so many differnt voices and rhymes. Would like to know who does your parrot sounds like? Can she or he immitate your voice , or he has his own voice? It would be really interesting to get as many postings as possible

Post edited by: ranaz, at: 2009/11/20 13:17

Kookie and since around 6 months, does not poop in his cage. He holds it until I get him out to his playtree, he would also do it on the floor on any of his play stands, but never in his cage...very clever, he even says big poop when he goes out to poop in the morning...

Hi, Hope Rishi is doing better now. Just I had a question, when u did the blod tests at Nad al hiba, did they do any PBFD test, because when i took kooki there, they did initial blood test (hematology) to see the white blod sells count and other stuff, and when they noted that white blood sells cout was low, they sent a sample of blood to south Africa to be tested for PBFD. It is costly but it is sure. Normally this takes around two weeks. I guess its better to check with Dr Julio if he can do that, so u can know for sure what you are facing. If Rishi is more than a year old, he has a good chance of facing PBFD, but his life would always be at risk and you haveto be extra careful with his diet and habits. Normally PBFD is kills his imunity system, so you have to follow strict Hygien standards especially in his food (forexample you have to bake the food to reduce bacteria, wash his cage, perch, & toys very frequently in antibacterial solution, boil his drinking water, wash his food and water bowls with boiling wate...) Hope it is not PBFD so you dont have to go through this Wish you all the best and do not hesitate if you need pellets {Nature-00020095}
