1. charlie doesnt seem to bath, at least that I have noticed but once has he took a bath. I got a bird bath and fill it with lukewarm water everyday, but he seems to want nothing to do with it. I tried running water and that scares him. any and all ideals are welcome, I am at a lost.
2. I found this site. I dont remember where or who I found it from. But I had it bookmarked and thought I would share it with you all. I am learning that I need to keep my bird busy so have been trying to find realistic ideals that work for my household. and there is a lot of ideals here. I am going to try the one with cupcakes and straws as soon as I get a wiffle ball. And I am looking for a safe basket to put all the small items in.I am hoping that this week I am going to e close to chicago maybe I can find a good parrot shop. maybe oh heres the link.. http://www.birdsnways.com/birds/ihand.htm
3. Charlie is about four and half mths old. He says pretty bird, barks, and whines like a dog. but he only did it a few times but when he did the pretty bird saying he did it all day and just does it every so often now. I thought the other day he said Snoopy which is our dogs name, but I wasnt quite sure he did say it and havent heard it since. but when he chatters he will chatter for about an hour or two, non stop.. Thank you for asking the question. I am curious for the replies also.. I talk to him all the time and am hoping he is a talker, but in the two weeks we have had him he is a permenant addition to the family regardless, even Snoopy likes him.
4. Sometimes Charlie doesnt want to step up.. he will move away from me and nip to avoid me I thought well okay he wants to be left alone... take a hit marie. And he doesnt want to go into his cage at all... that is becoming interesting to say the least... crabs the bars and/ or anything with in reach including me and I am having to pry him loose to get him in... gently of course... but as he gets bigger I would think that would get harder to do... but I was reading in the companion parrot books (mattie sue athan). That it was better if they learned to step up at all times...to help keep them in control if they become upset..which makes since to me also... like when you teach a child to behave... you know that final look like I have had enough... and they know to behave... what do you guys think? I think he is doing fine other then that. he eats good and I still feed him formmula once a day... plays fine, stays on his cage mostly... occasionally he will glide down... I am concerned that he hits the floor to hard...but he doesnt seem to hurt himself none.. he likes to sit in the living room on his playstand while we are in there. and the dog is getting used to him and him to the dog.. no problem there.. I actually think they will become friends..always supervised of course. When he flys to the floor, the dog runs to him and just looks at him. like oh your okay and walks away. 5. being a new parrot pet owner... I see a lot of me in that... I just rearranged the furniture in the whole house so Charlie could have a living room wall for his cage... and so I can put a playstand in the dining room, as soon as I figure out how to make one, or buy one.... keeping charlie in mind..
6. what is charlie doing when he stands on one foot and stretches the opposite wing out and then shakes....like he is shaking something off himself.. and today he wouldnt get up on my hand much... just kept moving away from me... and nipping, not really biting but just letting me know he didnt want to be bothered... and then this evening while i was playing cards he like kept screaming at me and then he wanted me to pick him up...but I didnt I kept telling him he ignored me at play time..now was my play time...
7. thank you for answering my post... He is four months old going on five... He eats the pellets, and I have been offering a small bowel of food every morning, I have also gave him some cooked oatmeal, part of my breakfast a few time. Seems to like it. but around six or seven he seems to start getting louder and sometimes screaming, before his feeding. The pet shop couldnt get him to eat when I was there and she said it was because he was weaning himself. but to still offer it. my husband cant get him to eat out of the syringe, but I have no problem. he eats two to four syringe full every night.. I guess as long as he wants it I will give it to him... better then a sick bird. he also eats millet... just about anything I offer him he has munchened on.. some things he spits at first but takes to it after i give it three or four bites...

Post edited by: rierie, at: 2008/11/18 22:20
8. my grey si still being syringe feed once a day, in the evening, he eats anywhere from one to three syringe full. I let him decide if he doesnt want it I stop. He eats regular parrot food, crackers, apples, bananas, nuts, brocolli, melon, grapes... I cut all his food in to small seed size pieces, except the cracker I let him hold it. anyway the question I have is when do I stop the last feeding... the pet store said to stop when the can of formula is gone, but I have read alot lately, and it doesnt sound good to suddenly stop formula...forced weaning. The vet that I took him too, didnt know much more then me.... said to do what the pet store said..
9. I added a slideshow t the first post... and I love your saying with ur signature... it is so true..
10. oops his name is Charlie, I tried to add some pics, but they woouldnt ascept them. so I will work on it. may take a little while as I am very busy with charlie right now. I have been reading some posts and info on the sight. and yes I am so pleased with charlie, it is like he picked us. We have been thinking about a parrot and looked at some and looked around some shops but hadnt quite made the decision, and the jump into the commentment when we found Charlie.. my husband took to him right off, when he said he wanted him, I knew it was right, my husband doesnt spend money easily and to commit to buying him and the expence and commitment. I knew Charlie was for us. We have had him four days and he has been such a joy already. Can you tell I am so excited about him.... Thank you for welcoming me...
11. Hi I am a new african grey owner... and so far I just love him to death.. I never owned a big bird before but so far I think everything is going fine... first day he didnt want to eat his formula, and I was a bit worried, but he came around and has done fine since. he is also eating plain food. He is 4 months old.. a baby still. He is so tame, I have had cockatiels , but they wasnt tame. i did get them where they would walk around on the floor and outside of their cage, but not like this grey. He wants to be right where me and my husband are at all the time or on top of his cage... We go see the vet on saturday, his first vet visit.I am looking for a good support group so that if I do run into any problems I can ask for help. the pet store I bought him at said he was a congo, but the shot record says a timnel... and from the pics on internet, I beleive he is a timnel. I started trying to catch him poop in his cage so i can praise him so that i can get him to poopy on command. any suggestions to help will be greatly appreciated. and any good parrot book suggestions will be greatly appreciatied also. I have ordered a couple by sue athans.. I hope they are good.. I am also searching for good ideals on making a play station on top of his cage, seems he likes it up there no how. Well I hope to make some friends, I am so excited about this grey... He seems so smart...click on the picture as it is a slideshow of charlies first pics if you want to see them.
