Tag named charlie....

I am going to be gone for a week. my son is deploying and I am going to spend 4 days with him before he goes. charlies cage has outside feeder doors, so my sister can feed and water him. But i am worried that if something is wrong she wouldnt recognize that something was wrong. And he woould be caged for 6 to 7 days.. I dont know how he will react to that. as he is out most of the time since I have had him. But he does nip at strangers and I am afraid he would bite them if they werent smart enough to leave him alone. and I am surprised at the people that I have had to tell just leave him alone he doesnt want u messing with him. I now put him in his cage when people come into the house. I was thinking about having him kenneled at the local vets office would be more acceptable. at least there I would think if something was wrong they would recognize it and do something. And I think I would be more relaxed with leaving him. thought about taking him with me, but I really dont want to have to worry about him while on military base. What do you all do with your bird when you have to leave or go on vacation? gotta go to work

thought you might like to know that charlies eye looks fine today.. yellowing is all gone.... he must have just bruised it slightly.... thanks

i am sorry i missed typed what i meant... it is not the iris or the pupil at all. But the white ring around the eye itself... but a fine looking yellow around the side of it..that has a yellow tint, almost like a fine yellow chalk look to it... I talked to the vet and he said if it doesnt look better in a couple days to bring him in or if it gets worse to bring him in immediately

thanks for replying Dave, but it isnt they eye itself it is the white ring around the eye.. My husband looked at it a few minuetes ago and thinks maybe he fell and bruised it... I will keep an eye (no pun intended) on it. But I think he might be right I know I heard him skretch yesterday and ask Bob what was wrong with charlie and we both looked up and he was climbing out of his cage off the floor so maybe he fell... If it isnt looking better by tomorrow i will take him to the vet.. do you know how long it takes for a bruise to heal of them?

i know as they get older their eyes change.. but around charlies eye not the eye itself. in the white part.. charlie has what looks like very fine yellow powder.... He is now 8 months old.... is this normal, because I know his eye colloring should be changing soon. but i thought it was the iris itself that yellowed. this is outside the eye around the white part... looks almost like a dust.... I thought maybe it was an infection, but it isnt a mucus but it almost looks as if it is bruised around the eye. I have a call into to vet waiting for call back.

sounds to me like he is trying you just like a kid does.. the clicking is usually a way of them saying leave me alone or I will bite. a warning sign I think I would try when he misbehaves to give him a time out in his cage.. I am sure someone with more experience will come along and give you some suggestions.

i have mediacom for 123 dollars a month, I get basic cable, internet and a line phone.. I dont know what rates are sepearatly, where we live cell phones dont work. so I have to keep my land line or I wouldnt even bother with a land line... I cant wait until the put a tower up, hopefully someday...

looks like puss oozing which is a sign of infection.. be it be caused by a cold or a bad bruise or whatever, he needs antibotics to help it heal and not get worse..

Good luck finding your new bird... and I agree with everyone else.. your bird will find you... ours did... we had look at birds, talked about getting one, seen several, and one day we was in big town, stopped at the pet shop and walked in... the pet lady was holding charlie, my husband put his finger up and charlie stepped right up... Charlie climbed up to his shoulder and started nibbling on his ear... Bob was in love... wouldnt put charlie back.. we brought him home with us... and he is the greatest..

Do you think they are bonding.... bob is picking pecans with charlies help. Do you think he feels more like part of the flock when bob is foraging too. you out to see how funny they are bob just shoves charlie gentle when he starts picking at the box instead of the pecans.. and he will take a pecan away from him and give him a new one... charlie just yells at him..

Charlie gives kisses to the dog... he is so cute, they swap tongues until snoopie gets excited then I have to tell him to leave charlie alone.... then charlie cocks his head sideways like what did i do..

here are the pics of the playstand my husband and I built for charlie.....sorry it isnt the best quality pic..We are going to add some runner boards onto the platform and i need to figure a way to put food and water cups on it. right now there are just sitting in the floor.. but he likes to play on the floor mostly right now anyway. doesnt trust it yet... it cost about 30 or less to make.. had most of the stuff in garage...bought ladder and swing... bolts and some screws, and a trip to big town for ladder and swing as nothing in this area... went to all the pet shops though, looking at stuff... think my husband is going to buy charlie a new cage when tax returns come in..... we will see As you will see in the pic though he would rather play with my husbands velco shoes... I am going to town to get stuff to make a playstand for the living room.... I think i will try to make it a combination of pvc and wood branches... wish me luck... i will post a pic when I get it done... When it comes to feelings.... i think they are a lot like us. It is like when my husband is upset and snaps at me.. I have learned and it is still hard at times to not snap back. I become defensive... but I have learned that i am taking his angry on when i do that... i try real hard not to do that.. he usually snaps because i done something he didnt want me too. therefore i take his angry on i didnt have a problem with it he did... but if we communicate better things are less stressful I beleive the birds are the same way... communication.. Charlie seems to thrive for communication.. and they mimic or learn our language so they can communicate.. does anything I said make since to you all. Well I finally got some legos for charlie.... been looking for some cheaper ones then the 30 dollar ones.... i found some at the dollar store for a dollar, about 25 pieces... and he loves them...general dollar store if anyone is looking.. he has played with them all evening... he takes them apart.. and i pick them up and put them back together.. know if i can just teach the dog not to run off with them when he drops one.. snoopies got so used to him dropping food... he things he can eat the legos.
