I think george is starting to show that if he can't get me to leave him alone he might as well go with the flow. I think he like me (KINDA). He has a duck with plastic tube coming in and out of it. Kinda circling the duck. I think he like to play catch with me. I'll hand it to him when he's on top of his cage, and he will toss it to me. I have learned to tell when I think he tired of playing my catch game cause he'll toss it the opposite direction from where I'm at. But I still think his favorite toy is a wooden helicopter. He won't bite me if I have my hand in a fist, but let a stray finger get in there and it's fair game for him. I am able to get my fist less than a inch from his head, and play with him but if I put my hand in there with my open hand he runs and climbs the sides of the cage. Any suggestion on what my next step on working with him. If I try to get him to step up on a stick he runs, I put a T-Perch in his cage to try and get him used to it. But he won't go near it.

oh and I still see more eggs in the nest. Will those hatch? or are they... sorry, Bad eggs

You siad you will start feeding them your self at 3 weeks of age. Do you remove them from the nest/ cage that the parents are in? or do you just help the momma and pappa feed them. Sorry i know nothing about baby birds. The first picture, I saw I thought how can anyone say they are cute ... I couldn't even tell which end was what. But the last picture stole my heart seeing the one laid across its sib. That was cute.At what age do they open their eyes. Oh congrats. and good luck

How often do you feed your greys oatmeal. George loves it with fruits and stuff mixed in. After a couple hours i go to take it out and get him his pellets( which he doesn't like very much) he runs to his bowl just to get last bite.

I had I think a break throught with George this morning. {Feel-good-00020114}, I did the Iron Fist with him this morning. He bit at me a few time and relized it wasn't doing any good and I am now playing with the toys in the bottom of the cage with him. I push them with my fist, but he's not lunging at me. Thanks a bunch Tyco mom for the Iron Fist tip. But he did get my finger when I was trying to give him a safflower seed. (his Favorite). But I didn't react as normal until it felt like he was grinding on it. But I didn't yank back I sat there at first then pulled down and he let go. I hope that was the right thing to do. By the time he let go the blood was running.

ok thanks for the tip.

Yeah we have only had him for about three weeks. When he was brought to us he was toweled cause he bites. He's between 7-10 years old. From what we know Someone in the Dallas area had him I think first, then the lady that my son got it from had george for 4-5 years. She has said the other day that he didn't like her at all and that he always bites at her. But all of her birds bite i think ( she has 50) So I realize from what we have been told here we have a long road ahead of us. He does act differently towards my husband. He still kinda lungs at but not like he does me. I Just don't know how to learn to not pull back when he latches on. He's made me bleed twice. But I'm tring. But that's a hard thing to try and not do.

He played at the bottom of his cage with me for about an hour or more tonight. My son had bought him a small wooden helicopter he found at Micheals craft store. He threw that thing all over the cage. Then he attacked the paper towel roll he dropped down there. I bought some little paper boxes with lids and put his treats in them. He liked those too. Then he has a half a coconut shell that he pushed around. I loved watching and playing as much as i could ... yeah he still lunged at me and tried to bite but I would just softly tell him no and he would go back to his toys. I'm excited as hell. I'Ve almost (not quite) but almost decided I don't care if he ever lets he hold him or anything as long as we can have fun like tonight.:laugh: {Feel-good-00020114}

I'm excited about this thread. I'm cheap ( yea I know cheap and greys not mix) But anyway. I have made all of Georges toys. But one that my husband bought. So i'll put those one here with pictures if thats ok

He just lowers his head and stretch towards me. I hand him his treats from the side so he can see i have something for him. And Yeah I'm afraid of him biting he has a few behavioral problems.Bites real good and will lung at you. But we're working on those. He just in the last few days has adventured to the bottom of his cage to play. I sit in front of his cage and talk to him. The other day he reached out and bit me on the shoulder. I called him my little back bitter (under my breath). He doesn't step up yet on the stick. (Working on that too). We have made tons of progress in the last few days. My husband said last night he like a foster child that has been bounced from home to home. He just doen't know who or what to trust yet. But he'll learn eventually that I feed him, so don't bite the hand that feeds. Lol

I'm working with George tonight. When I go to give him a treat, he ducks his head then takes the treat. Does anyone have an idea of why he may do that? I'm thinking my he thinks i'll scratch his head. BUT NOOOOO... I'm Still leary of being bite cause he still lunges at me. Any ideas Thanks Marla

Hey I wanted to let everyone know I think George is finally getting used to things around here. He has been talking his head off the past few days, Expecially tonight. I was almost glad when it was our bed time. He even went to the bottom of the cage and scratched around like a chicken. It was funny our Pom (lady) and George was almost nose to nose and was just looking at each other. I was waiting for George to give her a nip on the nose, but they just looked at each other. I do think he perfers my husband more than me. But that's ok. I just keep reminding not to bite the hand that feeds. Thanks for all the advice, it's paying off I did get a humidifier today. Hoping that it help with his pulling feather from under his wing. We can't find a vet that we can get into yet. But still looking. May have to go out of state.

ah ok thanks. George seems to like the baby corn from the frozen veggies. I did find sone in the can.
-
sorry I meant to ask about baby corn
-
Maybe my store was out of the frozen. I never thought to look for fresh and i wasn't sure about the canned. I'll look at Wal-Mart. They have everything.
-
George which we think is a male, and which I'm the one who usualy works with him. My husband tonight was rearranging his toys cause I didn't have them in there right. They kept fall when I touched them. george never even lunged at him , but always does at me. I'm wondering if maybe he likes my husband more than me? Doug handed him a peanut and george kinda ducked his head like he would have let Doug scratch his head before he took the peanut.
-
Does anyone know if baby carrots are sold in the frozen section or are they canned. I can't seem to find them except for in the veggie melody. George really seems to like the baby corn. But can't find them.
-
thanks for the idea. I'm going tomorrow to look for new toys. We've on had him for a month and he doesn't play with anything yet. But I have made him a bunch of stuff.Cheaper to make them out of dowels and food coloring than buying them. I even made hima treat box. And the treats are wrapped in paper for him to tear up first. I saw in at the store for 29.85 made him one for about 3.00. But it helps Im very crafty and have the tools to do it with.

He has a new cage we went and bought him a cage two days after he came to live with us. It's huge. It's 30 x 36 x 66high. So that was done right off, cause he came in the cage he was kept in. which was i think 18x18x36. So should we be tring to just sitting in front of the cage talking to him? or should we be trying to work on stepping up on the stick. Thanks, we really appericate all the advice from everyone. Marla
