  1. All of my pets are micro-chipped except my canary and my recently acquired 33-year old BF zon. I have had furry pets returned because of micro-chipping. Also, at least in my area, if someone keeps a micro-chipped pet, they can be prosecuted. It is stealing to retain a micro-chipped animal. The humane society and vets can easily check to see if a pet is micro-chipped all they have to do is scan the pet with an appropriate wand. A free service at least in my area.
  2. My two zons are mellow. Louie has always been the guard over everyone. Toby is still learning the ropes and what life is like in his new forever home. Neither are furniture chewers and neither make a lot of noise. Louie loves to fly from room to room to follow me and Toby is still not much of a flyer but we are practicing and I see great hope for his abilities to improve.
  3. I have five birds. Four parrots and a canary. I only cover my canary at night. I have never covered the parrots. I keep my home comfortable for me so it is always pleasant.
  4. Thanks Ray. Perhaps now that I will be calling Toby by his proper name, he will repeat some of the phrases his prior people say he knows. We will see.
  5. Well surprise of surprises!!!!! If you remember I got my last Blue Front Amazon for nothing because the owners who owned this zon since the age of 2 were moving to a senior estate. Loud parrots not allowed. I had requested something to prove that I owned my new zon but to be honest I didn't read it because I just wanted proof of ownership. I just put it away as free is free. The wife had said she was sure their zon was female. Well I read the sales receipt because I was filing paperwork today, silly me for not reading it sooner. Anyhow for the record my 33 year old newest amazon is a male who is named Toby. I am not unhappy about the sex of my two zons as they get along just fine and now I do not have to worry about eggs. Hooray!!!! Anyhow, Toby has been practicing flying when he is out of his cage. Actually, I am pretty impressed as he flies across the kitchen, down the hall and to his cage in the bird room. I launch him off about 3/4 times a session and am very happy with his progress. So Ray please mark my second zon as a male whose name is Toby. Thanks.
  6. I took the survey for my TAG and tried to take it again for my CAG. It says, "thanks for taking the survey". So how do I take the survey again for my other grey?
  7. I will try the survey once you have the answers to a couple of the questions from members like: Should I take a survey for each grey as I have one of each and the answers are different for each.
  8. If your grey will step up for you, once you have him on your hand place your other hand over his back and pop into the travel cage. If that won't work, birds do not normally move around in the dark so, darken the room and pick him up and pop him into the travel cage. On another note, you must see some beautiful country, I am very jealous. Before my late husband passed, we went by motor home across all of the US and into Mexico and Canada. Great experience that I truly enjoyed.
  9. None of us will forget Cocoa. Kilaya is a cutie and I look forward to hearing about new adventures with Kilaya.
  10. Welcome to the Grey family, Blair and Amadeus. Sounds like you are learning to read Amadeus as he is learning to understand what you need from him. Looking forward to hearing more about your cross country adventures.
  11. Great posts from Dave and Dan. Always with great advice.
  12. I am retired but when I leave my fids for the day, a few hours, whatever. I tell them I am going bye and will be back. I tell them that they should be good and don't cause any trouble. My Congo repeats what I say and they seem to understand and are all right with it. I always talk to my fids and let them know what is going on. I have left my birds out when I have gone to the store down the street and they usually just sit at the perches by the windows until I come back. Greys/parrots are very smart and try hard to understand what is expected of them. Just tell them and show and see what happens.
  13. Thanks for the great update on Miss Marco. Love the tattoo, very artistic and gorgeous.
  14. Hi Mckenzy and Opi. Looking forward to getting to know the two of you! Welcome to the Grey family!
  15. Thank you for this wonderful update. So happy for you sweet little grey!
  16. I think I will give it a try. So it is 12:13 pm now and we will see if I can continue at......... 12:55 pm which I have done!
  17. Thank all you zon lovers. Yes, Lulu is certainly a great plus to my flock. I am determined to have her flying like the other parrots in my gang. Amazons are supposed to live into their 60+ years but are prone to retaining fat and I want my zons to live long and prosper. Exercise is something I try to see that my parrots all get. Sunshine, exercise, healthy foods and human exchange.
  18. I don't carry my parrots around. If they want to go somewhere they have to get there on their own. Even when Ana Grey was clipped when I first got her, she had to walk around. Even Lulu, my older newer 33 year old zon who is very clumsy at flying has to fly if she wants to follow the gang. I do pick her up to launch her off to practice flying and to put her on a higher perch so she can see out a window but she must fly off to get to the kitchen or bird room all on her own if she wants to follow anyone.
  19. Today was a good day for Lulu. She is such a sweetheart. Lulu loves to be with the other parrots who as you know are fully flighted. Anyway, I took Lulu into the living room and left the other fids in the bird room. I launched Lulu onto a window perch and left the room for the kitchen. All of a sudden I hear the beautiful flapping of labored flying and Lulu is flying into the kitchen, makes a left turn and off down the hall and into the bird room onto Louie's cage. I went and got Lulu and because I was so impressed with Lulu's flight, I praised Lulu and took her back to the living room and left her again. In the flash of an eye Lulu is flying back into the bird room and on to Louie's cage. I could have jumped for joy. Lulu is coming along nicely. Her flying is cumbersome but Lulu is trying and flying and I am delighted! I just had to share my joy for her.
