  2. PERRANPORTH, England, June 13 (UPI) -- Pedestrians and motorists at the Perranporth, England, town center said they were surprised to see a family of swans use a crosswalk to cross the road. Witnesses said the mother swan led her eight cygnets, which were thought to be about one month old, on a 1,640 foot journey from the beach to their home in a nearby boating lake, The Daily Telegraph reported Friday. They said the birds observed proper road safety procedures by using the pedestrian crossing to traverse the road. "It was quite funny that they just walked across the zebra crossing," said David Quinnell, who spotted the swans while shopping. "When I first saw them they were lined up outside the fish and chip shop looking into the window. Seeing them on the high street was really quite strange -- it looked very surreal." Rex Harper, a retired warden for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said the mother swan may have learned to use the crosswalk by observing humans.
  3. Welcome back Tanya. It sounds like you were able to find Phoebe a wonderful new forever home. I wish you all the best on finding the right grey for you. Hopefully your neighbors will now be more understanding and kind. Please keep us posted.
  4. What a scare Hannah. Thank goodness for your quick actions. What a relief that all your fids and cat are all fine. I thank God for my smoke alarms in my home, I set them off at least once a month! The house was built with an exhaust fan in the hallway what I have used. It is right in front of the birdroom. Lucky for my fids!!! Thank you Hannah for sharing this story with us so we can keep ever vigilant! Jill, it is Pat (TycosMom) the moderator of the Other Birds Room who has pillowcases handy for her birds' quick escape.

  10. May I ask why you think Dusty needs his wings clipped? My breeder clipped my Ana Grey's wings before I got her. I watched Ana Grey try every day to fly she wanted to fly so badly. It broke my heart. I should probably tell you a little about Ana Grey she is fearless and not afraid of anything. She is very independent. It took almost year and 1/2 before she could actually fly again. She is so happy, she flies everywhere. I love it when she comes a flying when I call out "Ana Grey where are you" I can then hear her wings flapping through the hallway, have you every hear a grey's wings flapping, the sound is marvelous. She makes the quick turn to my lounge chair and lightly lands on my chest. I ask for a kiss and she touches my cheek with her beak, wonderful!!! Please be sure that it is in the best interest of your grey to clip his wings. Sometimes the clipping only breaks a grey's spirit.
  11. Hi Samantha welcome to you and your flock! Love the pictures of your fids. I can't wait to get to know you and hear more about your feathered companions.
  12. Lyn, I once had an opportunity to bring a raven home with me while touring the USA in a motorhome. This raven would come to me and follow me around in the campground. It even came into the laundry room with me and I was so tempted to let him into the motorhome and take him home. He must have at one time belonged to someone because he was so trusting. I left him free and prayed no one else would try to capture this beautiful bird.

  24. Okay so now we all know you want to keep your present cage. Rick how much do the nuts on the hinges stick out? How about some heavy duty magnets. I have some that I use on my refrigerator that stick firmly. Perhaps Cosmo wouldn't be able to remove these or something like them from over the nuts. I, of course, am only guessing at solutions because I have no idea what these hinges look like. These pictures are top and bottom of a single magnet.
