  1. Here is the Atom I made from items from the Dollar Store. It is balanced with eye bolts and Ana Grey enjoys it. I have a foraging ball attached so she goes there quite often. http://s407.photobucket.com/albums/pp158/JanetMoulton/?action=view&current=005-22.mp4
  2. I give them to them dry: green beans, peas, broccoli, corn and spinach. They snack on them at night time and early morning before breakfast. I like them because they do not spoil and my birds can have them whenever they want. The food is organic.
  3. I give my fids freeze-dried fruits and veggies all the time. They enjoy them and I like them because I don't have to worried about their going bad.
  4. Thanks Dave. Australia is lovely country all right! My oldest granddaughter's father is Australian, and I was fortunate enough to visit there and see the cockatoos and kangaroos roaming around first hand.
  5. Well welcome AfricanGrey_Lexy. I hope when you get a chance you will share a little more about yourself and your grey! Welcome to the Grey family!
  6. Thank you for sharing Issac's Adventure with us Stephen. Your perseverance helped Issac to find his way home. What a great job you both did to get Issac home!!!! Hooray!!! and Amen
  7. I purchased both harnesses. I prefer the aviator harness for my grey.
  8. Hi Peanut23, welcome to the Grey family! I would ask the former owner or family, if they are available, to share some information on your new grey's routine. Personally, I would just open the cage door and let your new grey come out on his own. By the way, what is his name?
  9. Oh not good for someone who suffers from vertigo!!!!!
  10. I save Ana Grey's seed mix for bedtime and just put some in the food holder on the inside of the cage door. She flies in and while she is enjoying her snack I close the door. Her sleep time is always the same so this ritual works well for us.
  11. Ahhh, Spock always keeps us smiling!
  12. If I were in your place and was uncertain as to whether or not a parrot would fit into my household, I would wait. Greys live a long time and they do require attention. I live alone and my pets are my companions. My grey, Ana Grey, is very jealous of my other bird, Sully, a re-homed male eclectus, my canary, Cappy who also requires time out of his cage, and my 9 year old pug, the love of my life. Ana Grey is out of the cage almost all day and I have to be diligent in watching that she does not dive bomb my pug. If I am carrying around any of my other pets, Ana Grey will dive for their heads and attack them with her feet or beak. I also have to make sure that I have someone to house/pet sit for me if I want to go away for a day or more. So think about the commitment to your grey, it will be as important as one to your children and husband.
  13. Great videos. Seems like your amazon is enjoying his new home!
  14. How very happy, I am for both of you. Now details Stephen. Please let us know exactly how it happened so we can all learn from this. How did he finally come to you as it is very obvious that he wanted to come home as much has you wanted him home!!!!
  15. Stephen get outside with Issac's favorite foods and call out to him. Put yourself in a position at which he can come down to you and call to him. He is trying to come home, you have to make yourself available!
  16. On my patio door I have regular curtains that I can open on the glass side and keep closed or partially open on the sliding door side. That way I can leave the glass door open some so my pug can go in and out. I also have beads on the sliding door side for extra precaution. My front door has beads and a light weight screen that opens in the center so that people can come in easily but it still deters my grey from wanting to go through.
  17. I live alone but I have several grandchildren. It all depends on how well each grandchild is disciplined as to whether or not they can interact with my grey. It also depends upon whether or not Ana Grey "likes" a certain grandchild. My oldest grandson (21) has a good relationship with Ana Grey and she will fly to him. My 10 year-old grandson and Ana Grey have the same type of interaction. When two of my grandsons 5 and 8 are over Ana Grey stays in her cage as they are not calm and disciplined children and Ana Grey senses this and does not really want to be around them. Ana Grey does not like my other pets, if I am carrying around my ekkie or pug, she will dive bomb them and try to peck their heads and claw them. She is very jealous. But when my year old grandson is over she will sit quietly on the back of my chair while I rock or feed him. She seems to know that he is a helpless person. So I guess it all depends upon the personality of your grey and the discipline of your children, in my opinion.
  18. Thanks for the reminder of how careful we must be with our birdie's food.
