Wonderful pictures! I truly enjoyed your little flock. Thanks for sharing them. More please!!!!

Some of our members have other parrots that are compatible with their greys. My grey is very attached to me and dive bombs any other bird I have that gets too close to me. So, it all depends on the grey. My parrots are for my enjoyment, not my grey's. So, I guess the question is how well do you know your grey, because it depends on its personality and bonding to you.

Well, I weighed Ana Grey in at 292 g in 06/16/10. Now she weighs in at, drumroll...... 302 g. She will be three on 08/06/11.

My grey and zon are both pretty quiet and I am a late sleeper as I am retired and live alone so I do as I please. Sometimes Ana Grey will talk but usually quietly. My zon is quiet in the AM. I do see that they have dried vegetables in their cages at night so if they need a snack, they have one.

Greys and Babies/Small children - Does it work? HELP!
Luvparrots replied to Popsicle's topic in The GREY Lounge
I have travel cages for my parrots and when I go to visit my daughters, they come along. They travel quite well in the car and have done so several times. -
I am always up to a good read. I ordered the book. Thanks for the heads up Bran!

I so love your peahen and peacock RayP. I grew up with the sweethearts and miss them dearly! I still have some tail feathers in my bedroom. They are so lovely! Thanks for sharing your pictures! Trinkapuppy, I love your flock!!!!! -
Not to worry birds are meant to fly and if they want to, they will. When I got my grey at 4 months the breeder had already clipped her and it was a whole year before she could fly. When she started to get new flight feathers she would practice to fly on her own. She so wanted to fly and at first I was terrified that she would break something as I have hardwood floors. I did the launch to the sofa and close hanging perches until her wings got stronger. When I realized that..... Hey, where would she have learned in the wild... daaa.... the forest and the hard ground.... I quite worrying. As long as she was getting some "wind" in her wings, she was okay. And that is the thing if your grey is getting some "wind" in the wings the landing will be okay. Some do fall like lead weights and will need more practice. So read your grey and see where her comfort zone is. Ana Grey is a real flyer now, she zooms around the house and can make the sharpest turns in the house. So don't worry about, could happen, might happen, pat yourself on the back and get on with your sweet grey's new and happy life!!!!! Enjoy!!!!!

Check Ceiling hooks on hanging items for birds
Luvparrots replied to danmcq's topic in The GREY Lounge
Ahh yes, the crash to the floor. My male zon is a parrot that can't be still and he has brought down at least two or three hanging ceiling screws and these are anchored with those things. Since the last crash Louie as been a little more careful and nothing has come down..... well at least for a couple of months!!!!!! Thanks for the great and appreciated reminder Dan. -
Greys and Babies/Small children - Does it work? HELP!
Luvparrots replied to Popsicle's topic in The GREY Lounge
I have a very jealous and spoiled TAG that pesters my re-homed zon to death if he tries to come to me. However, Ana Grey seems to know that my 2-year old grandson, who was born 3 months premature is very special to me. Ana Grey sits patiently when Lil Dino is over and never tries to come too close. She will sit on the back of my rocker if I am rocking Lil Dino and just be as good as gold. We did have a talk, Ana Grey and I about little Dino and as you have heard greys are very intelligent, I believe she understands that Lil Dino is off limits. What I am saying is..... It depends on the parrot/bird and the relationship you have with them. I do know that this might be a great thing for your hubby if he likes parrots as he would be able to interact one-on-one if your grey in the months and years that Mom is too busy with the new baby. I didn't get my parrots until my children were grown and had their own lives, my parrots are a comfort and a blessing for a senior citizen who would be all alone without her little babies. -
I believe, Echo is a double-headed amazon.

My TAG is rather on the small size but normally I believe a Timneh is considered a medium-sized parrot. My Ana Grey weighs in at 303 grams. She will be 3 years old in August.

Yes now I can see it!!!!! Sully is a very musical sweetheart, thanks for sharing your little "Fred Astaire" with us!!!!

Oh dear, you need to be a member of watch and I am not!

Hi to you and Chipper, Paige. It's always fun to learn what a re-homed parrot knows and says. I look forward to hearing more about Chipper and seeing some pictures when you get a chance. Welcome to the Grey family!

Very nice introduction and I am looking forward to hearing more about Kouki and the rest of the gang. Welcome to the Grey family! Can't wait to see some pictures!!!!!

Washington State is a little drab so far. There was one nice day and so I took Ana Grey for a harness walk as usually she tried to fly away. She so wants to fly high and free. After the usual try she settled down and rode nicely on my shoulder for the rest of the outing. As for Louie, perhaps when the weather is nice I will push his cage outside as he will not come willingly! I envy those that live in the sunny weather areas, your fids are so lucky!

I found it at a couple of places for over $160, so someone is offering it for that!

i offer very little meat to my parrots. They don't seem to like it very much. Ana Grey only eats it when she is stealing food off of my plate, but that I believe is just her being "part of the family".

Identifying Your Bird if the unthinkable happens
Luvparrots replied to Talon's topic in Lost & Found Bird Room
I don't know what an avian chip is. The chip was implanted by an avian vet who also checked Ana Grey over to see that she was healthy and the proper weight so I am quite confident with the device. -
Identifying Your Bird if the unthinkable happens
Luvparrots replied to Talon's topic in Lost & Found Bird Room
I have micro-chipped Ana Grey because I believe it is the best way to prove that she is mine. Veterinarians in the USA will read a parrot/animal free of charge for a micro-chip if asked. Ana Grey is a very small TAG and although she is almost 3 years old only weighs in at 303 grams. She is not underweight for her size and she is very active and is free-flighted throughout my whole home. She follows me around all day long as I am retired. She also sits by the outside doors if I go outside just waiting to "escape" she wants to fly free outside so very much and it is one fear I have every day that she will get her wish and not know how to come home once her hunger for flight is gone and her empty stomach takes charge. Ana Grey has never even acted like the chip bothers her, there has never been any reaction whatsoever. It cost me $65 for the chip and she is registered. Of course, the bird also has to be healthy to be micro-chipped. Just like my dog is micro-chipped and if lost the vet will be called and can contact me, so will my avian vet be called if Ana Grey is found and taken to a vet to be checked for a micro-chip. The key is that your bird will need to be found by an honest person who knows that our parrots are like our children and very loved and should be returned to their parronts. Louie is not micro-chipped as he flies like a lead-balloon and his flights are always very short. If I had a fear that he would fly off like I do with Ana Grey, I would not hesitate to chip him immediately. -
I know they GPS wild birds to track migration. I would think it would be quite spendy to GPS a pet and track it!!!!!
-
My grey is not banded. It is not required and her breeder chose not to band her greys. I do have proof that she is mine and have had her micro-chipped, which I believe is the way to go for my peace of mind.

Hope you are up an around in no time. Morgan is a very smart birdie. He knows how to get want he wants and that's to know Mom is alright!
