  1. I just got back from a stay with my daughter and had to pack up enough of everything for my fids for three days. To my surprise their three travel cages just fit in my jeep, and with my pug included it was a little tight. Got it all packed finally, and am glad to know now how to pack it all in just in case there is an emergency. So I commend you Robin for your emergency practices, having three parrots was very enlightening. Having seven to be responsible for could be overwhelming!
  2. Welcome to you Everyday Miracles, thanks for the very thorough introduction. Very interesting. My first parrot is my sweet Ana Grey, a timneh African Grey, the smaller of the two African greys. She and I are totally bonded and I have learned oodles about greys from this very friendly and welcoming forum. So enjoy getting to know everyone and read, read, read. We are all here for you!
  3. Molly is certainly a lovely little lady! Congratulations on your new friend! Hooray!
  4. Very nice thread Ray! My BF zon, Louie, is the comedian in my life. He makes me laugh every day and I am so glad I found him! Hip, Hip Hooray for Amazons!!!
  5. Happy Hatchday Lyric! Glad you came by and hope to hear more from you!!! You and your Mommy are sure missed around here!!!!
  6. Frankly, my three don't eat pellets. I do put pellets in their cages (Pretty Bird or Roudybush) but Louie and Sterling do nothing with them and Ana Grey when she is bored will crunch them into little tiny pieces.
  7. Hi Nelisthan, this is a African Grey Parrot forum. Other kinds of parrots are welcome here in the Amazon Room or Other Birds Room. Basically that is all we discuss here. We are just grey lovers.
  8. Each of my parrots has his/her own travel carrier and my two greys go into theirs easily. Louie, the zon, will not let me touch him but will go back to his cage upon command and will go willing into his carrier if I hold it over the doorway. To them, their carrier means a trip outside into the sunlight and they love the sun. I take them outside two or three times a week so they are use to the carriers and are good little birdies. These carrierrs are stacked in their bird room so they know them easily and are very use to them.
  9. i have 10 year old pug that leaves the room when my parrots come into the room. She stays away from them. My daughter has a labrador retriever, aka bird dog, and I cage my three parrots when Scout is around. I just do not want to take the chance of losing one of my flighted friends. My daughter knows her dog, Scout.... that she sees my parrots as lunch or dinner, and from what I know about Scout, so do I.
  10. Hi Jonny, congratulations on your new baby grey. Both of my greys, a TAG and CAG I got when they were about 4 months old. Ana Grey (TAG) is 3 and Sterling Gris (CAG) is 5 1/2 months old. Both of them are cuddlers, their breeders handled them a lot and spent a lot of time acclimating them to people. At the time I got each grey, I asked the breeder what schedule they used with the baby and told them about myself so that everyone knew what the new atmosphere would be like and the schedule the young grey was accustomed to using. Each grey is different and as a new parront, you need to understand what your new friend is use to doing and what personal traits your baby has. So many new parronts are so excited when their baby comes home that they "overdo it" so you need to relax, read your new baby's wants and needs and let he get use to his new home and parront. Young greys are so trusting and want to be part of the "flock/family" so it is important not to break their trust.
  11. Great signature picture. Congrats on Peanuts being a girl!
  12. Very pretty birdies! Thanks for sharing your sweet flock with us!
  13. Dan is correct, the bird can take care of a loose feather on its own. There is a video somewhere here that I posted of my parrot taking care of a feather. I find it fascinating to watch them preen their feathers.
  14. I have a 5 month old CAG, Sterling Gris, that I have had for a little over a month. I believe it has to do a lot with how the breeder interacts with the young greys as to how well they adjust to a new parront. Sterling is very cuddly and love tickles and I can only thank the breeder for the loving care he was given. My problem is that Sterling immediately wants to ran up my shoulder and nuzzle on my neck, so it is taking time to break this need. Sterling was very lightly clipped by the breeder, but he can fly all over the place. Even take off from the floor, so I am very happy that the clip was so very light. I believe it is okay to give treats to your grey in the beginning to start the growth of trust. Pistachios are very low in fat and my parrots love unsalted ones. I also find that greys have a mind of their own so you have to "train" on their schedule in short bursts. Be patient and don't push the touching, your grey will eventually be the one asking for scratches when the trust is there. A trickle is the first thing Sterling or my Ana Grey want when they first come out of their cages in the morning... to the point of be obsessive some times! You should introduce yourself in the Welcome Room Marian so everyone can say HI!
  15. Yes, I can get on the ebay site but not your website.
  16. Morana, there is no design, I have just covered the top of the computer screen to protect it!!!! LOL! And throw a towel over the keys when I leave them.
  17. Hi Ellie, love those TAGs! Tule is very handsome!
  18. Cupid, I'm not sure if its flying away or just the fact that the clip grows out and owner is unaware that the bird has become flighted. It also can happen if a gust of wind catches a bird's wings and off the bird then goes. Or in a moment of panic a bird is frightened and the adrenaline gives the bird the strength for flight. It is very easy to lose sight of a bird and not be able to find a scared bird that will normally stay very quiet when frightened. When I first brought home a re-homed older ekkie, the pet store owner told me she took this clipped bird out in the backyard to sun bathe and he always just sat there. Well I took him out and off he went about 20 feet off, luckily I was able to quickly retrieve this "unflighted" bird (I think he was just as surprised that he could fly). It is a person's personal choice to have a flighted or unflighted bird/parrot and I personally believe people should read the information Dave007 has provided in the Health Room and then decide for themselves. This is not a topic to be debated just personally chosen for an indvidual's situation. As it can because a very hot topic.
  19. Hi Cassandra and Ajax. I have a new young CAG, Sterling Gris, that I have had for about a month, he is 5 months old. He is a cuddler and always wants to nuzzler on my neck. They are all different and it will take some time before you learn to "read" their body language. Sterling Gris is a little clumsy and has gotten into some scary situations with his clumsiness. Luckily I have been right there to "save" him. If your baby does not want to be touched at the moment just give him a small foot toy or a small chunk of carrot and let him sit near you and come to you on his terms. So glad you joined the forum, welcome to the Grey family!
  20. I have one of those flat screens for my computer which I have draped with a large kitchen cloth so that any pooping goes onto the towel/cloth. It is large enough that is goes over the wires in the back of the screen. Works for my birdies. I really put it there because they love to "chew on the top of the screen and that is a no on! One or the other of them will sit there and look me in the eye while I'm typing or lean over the screen and watch the typing. I do have another towel that I cover my keyboard with so that they can't "practice" their beak typing with my delicate keyboard. Once burned, lesson learned.
  21. I wish you oodles of luck with getting your parrots to all like each other. I have three, a 3-year old BF amazon that I re-homed, , a 3-year old TAG, that I have had since she was 4 months old, and a 5 month old CAG, that I has been in the family for a month and a half. My TAG, the smallest of the lot is very aggressive and rules the roost. My zon, I can't handle but we have an understanding and he follows my verbal direction quite well. He will fight if challenged. Now my baby CAG is the largest and he will stand and fight if anyone of the other two try to take his spot. My TAG just pushes the males around for in her eyes she is Queen and they are her slaves! The funny thing is that in the bird room they do not fight. It is when they are in my office or other parts of the house that they really challenge each other. All are flighted and if I am busy, I just put the youngest in his cage so I know he is safe as he is still very clumsy and was lightly clipped by his breeder. Maybe someday they can live peacefully together. Until then, I just watch them all and play referee all day long.
  22. That is a great looking perch. My three love their grapevine perch. One of the first things I got before I brought Ana Grey home, three years ago!
  23. Paul, I'm not convinced that Murphy is still outdoors. Perhaps someone has already found him and is keeping him. Have you checked local pet type stores to see if anyone new is purchasing parrot food? Just don't give up on Murphy. Have faith.
  24. Hi Carl congratulations on your new baby! Can't wait to hear if it is a girl or a guy! Welcome to the Grey family!
  25. I love the videos. Your parrots are very handsome. I wish I could trust my birds to fly free like that. You are very lucky!
