My parrot doesn't want to stay inside her cage!
Luvparrots replied to koukikoukis's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Ria, just wants out of the cage. Scratching in a corner is something parrots do when they want to come out of the cage. -
I have three parrots, a TAG, Ana Grey, 3, that I have had for three years; a re-homed 3 year old ZON, Louie; and a new CAG, Sterling Gris, 6 months, that has been with me for 2 months. Both the zon and Ana Grey have a total dislike for the new addition, but Sterling Gris is larger than both of them and holds his own. I have had to constantly watch them all and now, Louie, just pays no attention to Sterling Gris, and Ana Grey will tolerate Sterling Gris as long as he stays out of her space. Ana Grey owns my right shoulder and Sterling Gris the left. Both are very affectionate greys and I see that they both are cuddled and given kisses. It did take a lot of scolding of Ana Grey and letting her know she was not forgotten. I never leave Sterling Gris out alone with the other two as although he is the largest, he is still a baby and frankly I don't trust Ana Grey and Louie to leave him along when I am not in the room. What these two spoiled three-year olds have not figured out is eventually Sterling Gris, my gentle giant, will soon grow up and perhaps not be so gentle! So give it time and continue to show your older grey that she is loved and not forgotten.

Why does my Grey talk when nobody is looking?
Luvparrots replied to Wambulance's topic in The GREY Lounge
My Ana Grey does her talking first thing in the morning, when I am on the telephone or back and forth to me. So she is not discriminatory. She talks when she wants to or can be as quiet has a raindrop. It just depends on her mood. -
My greys and zon love the water and slop it all over the cages weekly! I had to take my fish bowl out because Ana Grey was always bathing with the fishes!

I love Eva's pictures! They are gorgeous! Such a beautifully TAG Eva is!

Hi Jodi, I have a three year old grey (TAG), Ana Grey, and a 6 month of grey (CAG), Sterling Gries. The 3 year old I have had since she was 4 months old and the 6 month old I have had for about 6/7 weeks. My Ana Grey is very jealous of my young CAG and dive bombs him all the time. Well, it is getting better but I have had to be on my toes all the time to keep the battles at a minimum. I am retired and live alone so I have the time to referee. I guess what I am saying is that greys are very intelligent and require attention that other parrots might not. Personally because you admit to no experience with parrots, especially greys, I would get only one grey to start with and see if you are okay with that grey's needs first. I'm not trying to discourage you having more than one grey only to take things slowly at first because unlike other animals parrots/greys live a long, long time. They become part of the family not just a pet and they require more attention than say a dog or cat or any farm animal. Of course, having a hubby and children, who love and can help with the greys will be a great asset, and only you know how a grey or two will fit into your family. Good luck with your decision. I know you will make the right one because you cared enough to think about it and ask advice.

As promised Dan, here is Sterling Gris and his shower/bath. I usually try to shower them outside because.... well it gets pretty wet!!! Sterling is flighted, as all my parrots are, so if he wanted, he would take off anytime he wants. So here is Sterling!!! I use a fine mist and really soak them well, so that is probably why they are so good about bath time.

I will try to get a video of Sterling if the weather clears up!

Golden ager with a mind like a spring chicken!!! LOL! I remember been grocery bags were brown paper and much more eco-friendly than plastic bags!!!

A little little can't hurt. Perhaps you can make some homemade sugarless cookies for Willie. Or your daughter could....

It certainly does look like your little TAG wants some loving. Now my breeder was different, she wanted me to make sure I cuddled and loved on Ana Grey so that she knew she was in a new home with a new mommy/flock. A breeder knows her babies best, but I can't wait to hear for tomorrow to hear how things go when you handle your baby. They are so darn loving these sweet Tags!

Great bathing demonstrations from Dayo and Jake. It is true my BF Amazon loves the water, he opens his feathers and extends his wings and struts his stuff all the time a shower is going on. He hangs upside down and shows his beautiful feathers. It is certainly a beautiful sight to see as he enjoys being totally soaked. Now Ana Grey, my Tag, is not quite so receptive but she will open her feathers and get a truly wet soaking without too much fuss. Sterling the Cag does like the water and opens his feathers and comes up to the front of the cage for a total soaking. He even opens his beak to let the mist and aloe vera in. I totally soak my little flock at least once a week so perhaps that is why my greys love the water. I was going to video their last bath a day ago but my battery needed charging. Perhaps I will get another opportunity to record them before the weather gets too bad. I do know I have posted a video a while back of Ana Grey enjoying a real soak. My birdies like being soaked so much I have sent off for a Two-Lite Hand Mister with a locking mechanism for continuous spraying so my hand/fingers don't get tired trying to soak three parrots! Can't wait for it to get here!

Just love the photo: ORANGE BREASTED GREEN PIGEON and Chicks (Treron bicincta) - ©Rik Seet The Orange-breasted Green Pigeon is a pigeon found across tropical Asia south of the Himalaya across the Indian Subcontinent and extending into parts of Southeast Asia. Like other green pigeons, it feeds mainly on small fruit. They may be found in pairs or in small flocks, foraging quietly and moving slowly on trees.

Almost became a grey companion... Rehomer backs out...
Luvparrots replied to FirstPenguin's topic in The GREY Lounge
I am so sorry. But leave this indecisive guy on a positive note. When I was looking for a Congo Grey I had to wait for over a year because they are so few in my area. When I finally found a breeder in my area all the babies were sold. I asked the breeder to please keep my number just in case someone changed their mind. Well someone couldn't come up with the money and I was called. So stay positive perhaps the son might have second thoughts when he finds that making a commitment to a parrot is not that easy. Stay positive, your grey is out there! -
The Panama Amazon, also known as the Panama Yellow-headed Amazon, (Amazona ochrocephala panamensis) is a subspecies of the Yellow-crowned Amazon, and is endemic to Panama (including the Pearl Islands and Coiba) and northwest Colombia. In aviculture, it is sometimes listed as a separate species. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Amazona_ochrocephala_panamensis_-captive-8a.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Yellow-crowned_Amazon_(Amazona_ochrocephala)_-Well_Place_Zoo-4c.jpg

I have three parrots. My TAG is 3 years old and I got her from a little old lady in Aberdeen, Washington. She was one of 5 siblings. Millie was a very dedicated breeder and we stayed in contact for over a year. My BF Amazon is now 3 1/2 years old and he is a re-home. He speaks Hindu and now learning English. His original owner was a male and when he became ill the wife moved Louie outside and then sold him to me. My CAG is 5 1/2 months old and I purchased him from Colton, Oregon from a couple of very devoted grey owners.

I have both a TAG and a CAG. Ana Grey, my TAG is now 3 years old and I have had her since she was 4 months old. My CAG, Sterling Gries, is now 5 months old and he has been a part of my flock since he was 4 months old, for about 6 weeks. I have learned that each grey is different that it has to do with how they are treated and cared for especially when they are being weaned that determines whether or not they are confident and trusting. Both of my greys' breeders were "just everyday" people who had a love of greys. Both told me to cuddle and love my babies from the very beginning as they were looking for the leader of the flock in their new home and that was me! My advice to you is choose a good and loving breeder and select the grey you want be it CAG or TAG and use your God given intelligence to read your new grey's body language and take his/her lead. Greys are so very intelligent and they just want to be loved and respected. Basically just what every living thing deserves. I commend you for researching greys and I believe CAG or TAG will be the right grey for you because you care. good luck on your quest for the right grey.
