Hi few questions... if you don't mind!
SchroedersJen replied to Shanir's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
I agree with Dan. I have a timmy, and I love that he is smaller. His beak isnt as intimidating to people getting to know him as a larger beak would be, and he is easy to take places. These guys are very active though, so you should not assume that just because a tag is smaller than a cag they will be ok with a smaller cage. Young greys are pretty active and Ive met several middle aged greys that had not gotten the memo that they were no longer young Good luck finding the right bird for you! -
Thanks Dave

You don't gain any weight, in fact, you can't keep weight on. At first it's cool, you get that Hollywood body everyone dreams of, but then there is a family intervention because everyone thinks you're aneorexic.....and you end up in a loony bin/treatment facility. That doesn't work though and you continue to waste away till you're to skinny to shop in the juniors dept, your boobs go away and nobody will look at you. I wish Buddy would stop pooping in my hair.

Schroeder is 25 months old, and it's a good thing he is cute because he sure isn't smart (shhhhhhhhh, don't tell him that, he thinks hes a friggin genius) So far, he says ON A REGULAR BASIS What!? Good boy WORKING ON Booger SAYS ONCE OR TWICE A MONTH boobs No Tummy Step Up He also picks a word of the week, and says a new word each week and then promptly forgets it and 7 days or so later, he will pick a new word. As I am self employed and work from home, I hear him when he is practicing and would know if he is just talking a lot when I'm not around. So far, he seems to have everything he wants, no real reason to learn how to ask for anything else and whistles a lot of complex tunes to make up for it.

Hello, I have a 2 part question, and as I don't need the answer till October, feel free to think a while and get back to me.... There is an excellent chance that my husband and I will be packing up and moving from the southern California coast to Washington this winter (don't ask about the timing, it's complicated) and I'd like suggestions on making sure my birds are as comfy as possible. Aside form the occasional weekend trip to my family's cabin during the winter, they have no experience with snow (and what they have seen is a patch here or there on the ground) or cold. To be honest, aside frmo snowboarding vacations, I don't either. What do those of you that live in cold, snowy places do to keep your fids warm and happy in the winter months? My birds love their outdoor aviary, and I'm anticipating some upset from them not being able to use it year round. Also, I have heard that UV lights arent that effective, is there a better way to get them vitamin d? Do their diets need to be altered in really cold months to provide more fat? As for the actual move: Do you think it will be less stressful for them to ride up in the car with all of the stuff with us and be there to unpack, or should I board them (they like their boarding facility and are used to it) and have them shiped up a week later? Thanks for the help!

Do your pets have a Facebook or MySpace page?
SchroedersJen replied to SchroedersJen's topic in The GREY Lounge
It seems when ppl go to look for Schroeder he isn't coming up. You can also try a search via e/mail at schroedemuffins@yahoo.com -
Some greys do this to indicate ownership....kinda like "this perch is mine, stay off of it" They may start doing it to their favorite people around strangers if they are closley bonded.

Why woould you ever want to nap? Doesnt running around after a winged toddler that never grows up energize you? Don't you feel a certain POW! from cleaning up poo? -
What a sweetheart! You are right though, Emma is a looud mouth. Is she jealous that the camera isn't on her?

Wonderful photos, what kinda camera did you use?

I know, I know, its lame. I always SWORE I would never be a lame pet owner that made a page for their pet. What can I say, I did it anyway. Does anyone else here have a page for their pets? Schroeders Facebook name is Schroeder Easybake Muffins. How about you?

Or, if the bird is more like Schroeder, they will dry hump a pinata toy. This will lead to a small piece of pinata grass going up their vent, bloody poo and some interesting sighs at the vet...No you didn't just read that wrong.

Schroeder snoart at me when he is annoyed or frustrated. When he ticks me off I snort back at him. It seems to get the point across because he usua;ly stops doing whatever it was that was driving me nuts. Just dont do it in public, people look at you like a crazy bird lady.

The aviator harness, while most expensive, is well worth the money. I tried a feather teather when Schroeder was a baby and he chewed on all the metal cvlips and had it totally dismantled and ruined within 5 min. Get an aviator andf watch the dvd.

I didn't think this through! (Long post)

We used to smear honey on our wrist to get our rescue to step up. He would be so busy eating the honey that he didnt notice that we were walking around the house with him till it was too late. He is great now thouhg. You may try honey, jelly or some other smearable treat. -
I am going to get a slap for this.

Actually, my husband thought that was pretty funny. -
I wouldnt worry about it. Young greys are pretty active, and often break feathers. I can't tell you how many people bring younger greys to the store with 2/3 of their tail feathers missing. Schroeder broke all but 2 of his off when I first brought him home because he was getting used to playing with big boy toys in a big boy cage. That said, wing feathers get broken from time to time too. As long as it isnt bleeding, your grey is fine and will take care of it. If the feather is bleeding, get to a vet. If the feather is not bleeding, but the break is going tooward the follicle, it may cause a problem later, so just snip it off at the break.

Schroeder will take a nap on my head if I take a nap under his feet. Since that doesnt happen too often, he usually doesnt sleep during the day. He does like to make snoring noises on occasion though.
