I am having the same problem:( It is a constant struggle to get Baxter to eat healthy food. He came to me as an adult and already had established his poor diet and it's really tough getting him eat the veggies and fruits. He will leave them there all day most of the time. My other 2 birds love healthy foods and I feel good about their diets but Baxter is tough. What I have started doing just recently is giving them all veggies for their morning breakfast with some pellets, no seeds untill afternoon and hoping that he will be hungrier enough to give them a chance. I think I am making a little bit of progress with it though. He is picking a few things out and eating them. Was wondering if I should give him veggies only in the morning with no pellets? I have tried eating healthy foods in front of him and made a fuss over them. When I offer them to him he won't even show interest in what I have and when I toss it in the bowl for him he leaves it.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2008/10/25 17:19

That's about how long I've had my mine but I adopted an older 12 year old grey. As long as they live I guess he's still a kid though;)

Hello Oppie, So glad you joined us here on the forum. I am so excited for you getting your baby grey:woohoo: . It is so neat how you described how Spencer picked you. Sounds like it was meant to be. I like the name too. This is a great place if you have any questions. There is always someone on here willing to help or just talk about greys.

{Feel-good-0002006E} Oh Judy, I have never heard poop called pretty before. That is hilarious. But I totally understand;) I think it's funny too that when a person gets a grey they become automatic poop checkers:laugh:

Hi Heather, so glad you joined us. I liked how you compared pregnancy to getting a grey:) There are probably more similar than you could ever imagine:laugh: . The commitment, the worrying, the fussing, the joy, the first word, cleaning up poop:ohmy: and so much more!!! Having a grey is such a rewarding experience. Good luck on your search and your decision. Please keep us informed. If you ever do have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. There are many knowledgable bird owners here on the forum and always happy to answer any questions.

Post edited by: BaxtersMom, at: 2008/10/24 18:12

Oh My Goodness. She was a bad girl doing that. I'm glad you figured out what caused it and so glad to hear she is ok. Whew! That was a close call on both the fire and the the macaw. I heard they are quite curious and playful. I'd love to have one.

Casper, I have to say, I love that first picture. Noticed it a long time ago and finally had to tell you it is great!!! Needs to be framed and hung on a wall:)

I really feel for you. They are just like kids aren't they? You love them but they can try your patience. Hang in there, hopefully you guys can work through this and find mutual ground and a routine that works for both of you. Good luck on it. Keep us posted.

Mine likes spaghetti too. I haven't seen that he has ever had a tomato but I know the sauce is filled with it. I have been worried a few times about the poop too but notice Baxters color changes & firmness or liquidy depending on his diet. Last week he tore up a pine cone and shredded it down to nothing. His poop was brown as the pinecone for a day:laugh: That one did shock me though. I thought he was just tearing it up but I guess he eats it too. Then I read they like to eat tree bark which is about the same so I guess it was ok.

When I brought Baxter home he had a loud phone noise, too that came from his previous home. As time went by I noticed he quit doing it. Which made me sad cuz I loved the sound. I think our phone sound was different and softer., Then we got some new phones with a different kind of ring and it had a more shrilly sound and Baxter went right backt making that phone sound. I am convinced that it was the ring itself that made him start making the noise again. We had several different tones to choose from on the new phone and the one we picked was the one he responded to. I wonder if you can change the tone on your phone. Perhaps a lighter tone or one that does sounds different? I only noticed this on Baxter when we got the new phone. I think there is something to it;) It's worth a try anyway. Good luck to you.

Mine does it as well. The neck will go up and the beak is open. I have noticed that when he is trying to learn new words or sounds he does this too. When mine yawns, he stretches his wings, opens his beak and goes "Awwwwwwwww" like a real person yawning:laugh: Sounds just like me:laugh: I put Baxter in his cage about 30 minutes before lights out. He eats for a few minutes then walks around and settles in. After eating it usually takes him about the same time as yours, 10 to 15 minutes. Sounds like you have a normal grey;)

He shook his head just as I snapped the pic. I was going to "delete" this pic from my camera but thought it would be good for Halloween. :silly:
