1. Hi, Welcome to the forum. This forum is s great source of information for you and your parrot will surely benefit from the advice. Your parrot will take a little time to adjust to the new surrounding so dont expect too much from him just yet. Spend as much time as you can with him/her and she/he will surely learn to trust you. Patience is the key Good Luck Nims
2. Some really good information and advice LMG. I agree with you also on buying a baby grey and would suggest to anyone buying one that they buy a baby which is fully weaned and fledged. I would also like to add that there are reputable breeders who will not sell their babies until they are fully weaned. Not sure that if this is the right place to post this but anyone thinking about getting a baby should do a lot of research on the species make sure that they have the space, time and effort to care for one. Make sure your breeder is reputable do some research on them and their background to ensure your baby is being cared for well before it comes home. Cheers Nims
3. I have heard Indy do that once or twice when I have the vacuum cleaner out. The first time she did she scare the living daylight out of me!!!!! Nims

6. Hi, Well things have got a little heated here and things have been said that may not have meant to sound negative (depending on which way you read posts) There are things which I agree with and things I dont and it's up to you whether you stay, read and learn. People here love their greys and this forum is dedicated to maintaining their wellbeing and sharing experiences. I have learnt from it and so have may of the others. With owning a grey I dont think you can ever stop learning. I have learnt more from this site than I have from any book I have read (I have read loads) My suggestion would be not to leave for the sake of your grey as I am sure there are lots of questions you may have in this cruicial period of your greys life that can only be answered by those with more experience than you. Whatever your decision I wish you and your grey the best of luck Nims and Indy

Aloe Vera

Hi, I live in the UK and the only place I get aloe juice is from a health food shop (Holland and Barratt). On the bottle it says 100% aloe juice (I think its for digestive purposes) but on the bottle it has other preservatives and I wanted to make sure they are safe for my CAG. Potassium sorbate Sodium Benzoate Citric Acid Ascorbic Acid Thanks Nims
8. Hi, I found this while surfing the web on greys and Tui. This is Andrews last youtube posting. http://www.youtube.com/user/kskiwi Nims

Help Please!

Hi, I must agree with the all of you. Your CAG will not starve if you leave food in his cage. He will eat when he is hungry I think you and Tango will have to tough it out for a bit. He may not eat the food straight away when you put the food in his cage but he will eat it when he is hungry enough.......you just have to be patient. Cheers! Nims
10. Thanks for the great responses! I just have to watch what I say in front of my little darling!
11. African greys are not dimorphic meaning they are exactly the same whether they are male or female neither are better talkers or more affectionate. I think its more on how the grey is bought up and raised that will determine his/her personality. Nims

Post edited by: nims, at: 2008/08/23 20:15
12. Hi, There can be many causes to diarrhea (infections or viruses) Also her/his poop should not be giving off a smell so my suggestion would be to take your parrot to an avian vet to get checked out ASAP. Hope your parrot gets better soon! Nims

Post edited by: nims, at: 2008/08/23 20:18

14. I tried the cold bath idea and objected a lot less than her normal warm and tepid bath. Thanks for the tip! Nims

I think this is great idea in addition to the bathing and will be picking some up today!
16. Hi, Being a young baby CAG their little brains are like sponges! Yesterday my husband was eating a chocolate bar and choked on it and was coughing (a lot!!). And wouldnt you know it Indy started to imitate him by coughing. She does it here and there as its something new she has learnt (im not encouraging it in any way) My question is how will I know when she is really coughing or just pretending? Cheers Nims
17. Hahaha I know what you mean! Makes me  sometimes! My hubby loves it though!
18. Hi, My CAG does this also and have noticed it more since we have filed her nails and they are now noticeably shaper d'oh! Thanks for the post! Nims
19. Hi, Apologies if this is a long post. I have had my CAG Indy for about 3 months (she is 6months old). Me and my husband are able to handle her and she is attached to both of us. She is very comfortable with me handling her than my husband. Why is it that I can handle her better but she will always fly to him when we are both around? My husband now works away for most part and is only home at the weekends so she spends most of her time with me. When my husband comes back she misbehave with me (bites me etc). As soon as he leaves she is back to being my best friend and is an extremely loving gentle parrot. Does anyone have any thought on the jekyll and hyde personality? Thanks Nims

Preening me!

Hi, Something strange happened when I was sitting with my baby CAG this evening. She likes to sit on my lap and be scratched but she started to preen me (my clothes) like she preens her feathers! Also she likes to pick her feet and claws is this normal? Can anyone tell me why she is doing this? Thanks Nims (its really cute though!)
23. Hi, The crunching/grinding sound you may be hearing from the bottom of her beak is beak grinding. My CAG Indy does this also but only before she goes to bed. Its nothing for you to worry about. As Judy said just give her plenty of time and space and she will enjoy entertaining herself with her own voice. Good Luck Nims
24. Hi, I had the same problem with my CAG. I had tried everything from pouring water on him, bath tray in his cage, spray bottle etc. The only thing that has seemed to work was filling the tub up to her belly area with warm water and let her walk around the tub. I then splash water on her (she does object to this!) but she takes this a lot better than the other methods. Thanks Nims
25. Indy is scared of motorcycle helmets, brown boxes (not white?!), hair dryer, woven willow balls, sand bags..........i think thats about it (for now).
