Does anyone here have a Java Parrot Tower? It seems like a neat thing, since you can buy replacement parts for it and what not. Anyone have any reviews on it? http://www.bird.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=502403

Lovemygreys:The breeder is going to raise the baby to 3 months of age. Then the breeder told me the bird will be eating fruits, veggies, and seed at that time, but that I will still need to do some hand feeding for another 3 months. Dave007:

Yes, I have put a deposit down for one of this breeder's birds. She told me that it is not uncommon for this to occur, and the last baby this pair of birds had turned out to be an awesome little birdy and found a home quite quickly. She did tell me that she has other birds that should be laying eggs soon as well and not to worry. B)
-
Well I just received an email from the breeder and she told me that only one of the three eggs in the clutch is fertile, but should be hatching very soon. Should the fact that the baby bird will be an only child worry me? Will there be unusual behavioral issues because of no brothers or sisters? I am worried that something will happen to this one little lonely baby and then my wait for my Grey just gets longer. I had hoped that at least all 3 eggs would hatch..just for that piece of mind.<br><br>Post edited by: fairymyst78, at: 2008/04/22 20:14

I am so glad the link was of help! It was funny that you had even asked that question because just today I was shopping at that site and discovered the single seed options! I can't wait to get my grey, I am already shopping for him/her!!

I went into a local bird store (they also breed and sell their own birds), it's a small place nothing on a huge scale. Anyway...I got into an argument with one of the ladies at the store. She informed me NOT to feed my grey Pellet diet as a base diet and to use ONLY seed as the base! I understand that seed is a good "treat" but I don't believe it is the better choice as a base diet! It just seems that the pellet's are a much better base nutritionally speaking. Why would this women be so determined to make sure I feed my bird seed diet?

I have cockatiels as well, and they have never had a problem. But I had not realized how many things I use in this house that I should not around birds, until I started reading these boards and what not. I burn Partylite candles LOTS, I think that is the one thing I will have to give up that I am actually bummed about. Oh and I have plug ins air fresheners too! At least I know now! Thank you everyone for your help!

OK, I was concerned, since last night when we ran the dishwasher I noticed a bleach type smell..wanted to make sure. :cheer: DAVE, that was funny!

OK, I have found a product line that include dishwasher soap they say is safe for use around pets and even birds, anyone else use this, or heard of it being safe forsure? http://www.yahwehsaliveandwell.com/biokleen.html<br><br>Post edited by: fairymyst78, at: 2008/04/18 21:29

Ok I have been reading up to get myself prepared for "parrot" proofing my home by August when I bring my new baby grey home. I am a little confused on the dishwasher though...Can I still use it? Is the soap detergent safe in it? I am so worried about bad fumes killing my bird and honestly can't find an answer to this. I know it is bad for the bird to ingest the detergent but is it dangerous to use the dishwasher with a bird in the home? If so, what can I use in the dishwasher that is safe?

Yes johnny that is me and my tiel Zues, although years after I bought her she laid eggs so really she is a zuesita..hehe. I also have a tiel named Heaven, but others say I should have named her hell. She is nice to me...but not many others. Zues on the other hand is an attention "whore" and won't let you stop scratching her head..she doesn't care who is doing it..just so it's done!

Thank you to all for the very warm welcome! I have read through lots of stuff, and still have so much left to read! I have allot of time to read up and study. Also the breeder seems to want to help me with anything I need in preparing for bird to live here with me!
-
Welcome! I am new too! Don't even have my grey yet!
-
OH another question...what does karma:0 mean?
-
The breeder is located about a 20 minute drive from here and she does welcome me to go visit at any time. I am not sure how accessible her home would be to me though, since I have not visited yet. Maybe if I can't get in her home, she could bring the bird out to visit me in my van. I think that is a great idea you had! My kids def. have acted different towards my chair from a very early age then other kids do. My kids learned to climb up on my lap before they even learned to walk! So I could see how a bird would be used to it just being introduced to from a very early on age. Last night I could barely sleep I kept thinking of my soon to be new baby!!!! The bird is basically a birthday present from my hubby to me, but my birthday is before we can bring bird home, so hubby said he will take me to see the bird on my bday!<br><br>Post edited by: fairymyst78, at: 2008/04/15 18:09

Hi everyone! I am a disabled mom of 2 human kids and 2 cockatiel kids! I actually have started the process to purchase a Congo african grey to join our family. I am paying the deposit this Friday!!! Baby is anticipated to hatch end of next week. It's going to be a long 3 months until I get to bring home the little bundle of joy. When I was a kid our family owned an amazon parrot and ever since I grew up and moved out on my own I have ached to have a parrot to love! I do have a question for everyone here with Grey experience...I use an electric wheelchair full time and I figuring the bird will need to get used to it. Anyone have any idea's for me to help the bird get used to my wheelchair and to not be frightened of it?
