Chloe does a Guinea pig. It is too funny.

I actually have talked with him and requested 24 hour notice, I have even gone as far as sending him a letter imploring him to use Natural methods for bug control. He didn't listen, since they have recently sprayed to kill crane flies, and he never even gave me notice...I got a phone call the day of when they were already spraying! Needless to say, Chloe had no problems, but I did! I have asthma and had an asthma attack that day. I have reached my wits end regarding chemical usage around my apartment. Not only for my health but that of my birds is at stake!

I get no notice here in my apartments of them doing any chemical spraying, do I have a right to ask for at least a 24 hour notice? Is there some law protecting me if they say no way???

I especially love the Broccoli "trees" she tries to grow at the bottom of her cage!

Well I hope they don't go to only using those kinds of bulbs. They are a known trigger for migraine headaches! For those people out there with this disease it is scary to think this type of lighting may be the only option in the future! As for the mercury danger that is scary too. It does seem like the lesser of two evils in regards to the two choices we have right now...but still...maybe we should try to find another solution that is safe for all!

My daughter gets along with her alright. Sometimes Chloe likes her and wants a head scratch and other times she would rather growl and nip at her. Chloe doesn't like my son at all, but that was expected since he is a busy fast moving toddler. I will get some more pictures posted soon, I promise! Hope all is well with you!

Well I have had Chloe home for a little over a month and we are having such a great time! She is sure a character! She is now about 16 weeks old and fully weaned. I finally got her weaned onto the Harrison's!!! She now loves it and gobbles it up really quickly. She also so far will eat broccoli, peas,carrots, and apples. I keep trying other veggies but she has yet to eat them. She also seems to dislike oatmeal and applesauce! She has figured out when her treats (avi-cakes) run out in her bowl on her play stand that all she has to do is fly over to her cage and eat the treats left for her inside it! She is mumbling a bunch of garbly goop sounds...really sounds like she is trying to say something. She also learned the wolf whistle. She has decided that she likes the last half of it more and will do the last half of the whistle mostly. It's too cute. I am so glad to have her join our family. FRIDAY, Nov. 28 (HealthDay News) -- Plastic fish squirt guns and plastic ponies containing the controversial compounds called phthalates. Toy cars and toy earrings laced with lead. Plastic pet animals that pose a choking hazard. Consumers heading out on Black Friday should be aware that all these toys are in stores this holiday season, but that they shouldn't find their way into eager young hands, according to the annual toy safety report by the nonprofit U.S. Public Interest Research Group (PIRG). The report, Trouble in Toyland, concentrates this year on substances that can be toxic to children. Several of these toxins have been outlawed under a new U.S. law, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, but some provisions of that law won't take effect until next year. "We've released this report for 23 years and have identified hazards that are on store shelves," said PIRG spokeswoman Elizabeth Hitchcock. Choking hazards have been a traditional focus of the report, Hitchcock said, adding, "Choking remains the leading cause of death related to toys." In 2007, more than 80,000 children under 5 years old were taken to hospital emergency rooms for toy-related injuries, and 18 died, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. But the new report also details toxic threats. "We focused this year on toxic hazards like lead and phthalates, because the product safety bill that was passed [by Congress] in August takes action, specifically on those two chemicals. But it doesn't begin to take that action until after the first of the year," Hitchcock said. Those chemicals are still in toys on store shelves, Hitchcock said. "So, it's buyer beware this holiday season," she said. Phthalates, which can be found in many soft plastic toys, can cause serious problems when exposure occurs in the womb or during crucial stages of development. Problems include premature delivery, reproductive defects, early onset of puberty, and lower sperm counts, according to the report. In February 2009, toys with a phthalate content that exceeds 0.1 percent will be banned. Currently, the phthalate content of some toys is 40 percent, Hitchcock said. Lead is another worrisome toxin found in some toys. Exposure to lead can result in lowered IQ, delayed mental and physical development, and even death. According to PIRG, a 4-year-old boy died of lead poisoning in 2006, after swallowing a bracelet charm that was 99 percent lead by weight. PIRG said it also found a piece of children's jewelry that was 45 percent lead by weight -- more than 750 times the current U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission action levels. The new Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act will eventually allow lead only as a trace element, PIRG said. To avoid toys containing lead and phthalates, Hitchcock urged parents to steer clear of cheap toys from abroad -- particularly those made in China, which produces about 80 percent of all toys sold in the United States. "In this year's report, the examples that we have were all made in China," Hitchcock said. The Toy Industry Association (TIA) said, "Toy safety is the number one priority for the toy industry, and the industry has been working year-round to regain consumer confidence. "The same old advice for parents and consumers applies to ensure safe play -- shop for brands you know at retailers you trust; and especially when there are young children in the home -- read and follow age labeling on toys; demonstrate safe play for your child, and supervise play," the association said in an e-mail. Dr. Karen Sheehan, medical director of the Injury Prevention and Research Center at Children's Memorial Hospital, in Chicago, and medical director of the Injury Free Coalition for Kids, thinks more must be done to protect children for dangerous toys. "It is not unreasonable for parents to think that if you can buy a toy in a store, it must be safe," Sheehan said. "However, this is definitely not the case. For decades, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has been under-funded and lacked the resources to be proactive in screening for hazards. "Parents need to carefully choose toys -- especially for young children who put things in their mouths," she said.

I had a Tiel break a blood feather..and the vet just yanked it out. Really my little tiel did just fine. I am dreading the day when My Chloe breaks a blood feather, but I will opt to not use anesthetic because for something so quick and simple I think it's "overkill".

Dave awesome job! I feel sorry for any bird that ends up with someone who really doesn't understand how to care properly for them. So many birds out there need re-homed due to people having this insane belief that a bird is like a dog or cat. OR worse yet get hurt by someones uneducated carelessness. Karma for you!

Well over the past few days Chloe has really become a good little flyer! She is persistant though! When she decides she doesn't want to sit on her play stand she will fly to my head...OVER and OVER again!! I just keep putting the little stinker back on her stand and she keeps flying back to my head! This morning she flew to me...the wind from her wings made all the cheerios in my daughters cereal bowl go flying! It looked like a cheerio blizzard. Chloe just flew this morning for a pretty good distance! First time I have seen the little girl fly! I think she had fun. She reminded me of a flying chicken for a split second! haha {Nature-000200A9}

Sometimes Chloe is sleeping during her afternoon hand feeding due time, should I wake her to feed her or wait for her to wake up? Also the temperature of the formula...I am so worried about getting it too hot...or too cold! I have a digital thermometer I use, so I do know it isn't too hot...but I get concerned that while I am feeding her it will cool off too fast and be too cold! What complications could arise if I feed a tad too cool? BTW she is 12 weeks old if that helps.

Awesome idea lyric! I just got a bag of brown rice yesterday! I will cook some up this evening and eat it and see if she wants to give it a try. She does eat peas I have found...its so cute! A little while ago I took some pellets and broke them into tiny pieces and she took them from my hand and "played" with them in her beak a little bit..so I am thinking its a little progress!

The breeder tried weaning her to Harrison's but Chloe didn't eat any of it and the bird breeders teenage daughter took it upon herself to feed her seed instead. So unfortunately she eats seed not pellets. She really isn't eating much of the seed at all and the breeder had her on 3 times a day feedings still. So I feed her hand feeding formula in the morning in the afternoon and at night still. I really would like to get her eating the pellets more that's for sure.

She has learned the step up command already! I am so proud of her. She is a stinker though...she hates pelleted foods! I have tried a few different brands. I am going to try and soak them and feed her by hand to try and get her to like the taste of the pelleted foods. Anyone have any other ideas??
