  1. Empress , I do have to and I mean have to give Sammy a bath everyday .He is one of the dustier birds , I guess. I do vaccum everyday in the part of the house where they are .I don't think a baby will produce that much . Mary
  2. Oh , that is sad , but I understand ,we cancelled a trip once due to our Alexandrine only being with us for about a month.Maybe next time. Mary
  3. Hello Empress, My daughter and son in law bird sit for us while we travel , and my son n law has psoriasis and last year we were in Hawaii for two weeks and he didnt have any complaints .I will say he uses Avon dandruff shampoo and it gets rid of it ....Who would think of such a thing .He actually bathes with the shampoo when he has a flare up . Can't wait to meet the new baby... Mary
  4. You are welcome , hope it helps.I was weary of all of the good stuff being in the bottom of the cage .One yellow squash was about 97 cents , at the store on Sat.They need to eat their veggies at these prices.LOL... Mary
  5. I was having a problem getting my guys to eat their veggies...So I purchased stainless steel skewers from Foster and Smith. I cut chunks of fruit and veggies to go on the skewer and place dry food in their bowls .This has worked like a charm , they eat all the veggies and fruit and then work on the pellets , nuts ,and seeds. Thought I would share . Also this saves me so much time in the mornings , not having to do all the chopping . Mary
  6. Like the others said , they are not social flockers. My Alexandrine will not leave my CAG, Sammy alone ,unless I keep her super busy with toys of interest . As long as I keep encouraging her to play on her playstand she is fine , if not she flies over and beaks at him , so I can't leave them alone for not even a minute .He doesnt give her the time of day . She is getting better , but it is better to be safe than sorry . Mary
  7. Hi Di , you can also use vet wrap , which can be ordered on line . You may be able to purchase from your vet or pet store also. Mary
  8. Hi Kim . I used my Kirby two weeks ago with Kirby cleaner , and my birds had no reaction .They were in the next room . My house is built with an open concept , so all rooms in the front have walls but no doors.I made sure they didnt get on the floor till it was dry , but there were no problems. Mary
  9. Hello Budman and Tracy , welcome to the forum .Ver neat story . Looking forward to hearing more about Tracy . Mary
  10. Have you tried to find a pet sitter , to stay there part of the time ? Perhaps a college student who can use some cash . I always pay someone to take care of my birds , that way I can tell them how I want it done . If it is just a friendly gesture , then it's harder. Perhaps your vet would board or the breeder would keep him .Good luck and he will love you when you return. Mary
  11. Perhaps taking your bird to the neutral room , away from all distractions and out of view of his cage . Then start playing with the toy yourself , it might take a while , my Grey watches us , and whatever we do , he copies , just like what ever he hears , he repeats . Good luck and don't give up . Mary
  12. I agree with Dave . Also , people need to understand , it really isnt good to let all who enter into your home handle your bird . Are these people washing their hands before they touch your bird ? People do carry germs . I don't let anyone touch my birds before washing hands. Also do these people know how to properly handle a bird .Like they say if you are afraid the bird will bite , it usually will , are these people afraid of being bitten ? Like Dave said , you concentrate on bonding with this bird , that should be # 1 on your list .People can admire your bird from a distance .Also Greys don't always like anything or anyone who takes your attention off of them .How old is your bird , please give us some more details ....
  13. Pat ,I agree with LMG...Sammy uses my arm instead of my hand . I think he does this not out of fear of my hands but my arm is a much safer perch than my fingers. He is a pretty big bird. Also 8 months isnt very long .So with your love , and time , she will probably come around . Sally Blanchard advises with Grey's , do not rush things . Which I am the worst . I want to do it today , and Sammy continues to slow me down ...Lol....I bet Greys are great to help lower blood pressure.LOL..It will all work out in time. Hugs, Mary
  14. LOL, Dan you are so funny . Mary

  18. Are his wings clipped ? Sometimes this can cause over preening ? Mary
  19. check out madisimmons profile and instant message her , she just made one .She will know for sure. Mary
  20. I was just curious , I do know some Grey breeders and I just wanted to know if it were one that I was familiar with . I'm sure your little sweetie is healthy and just fine. Mary
  21. Pixiexoxo, I looked up parrot rights in UK .I found Animal Health and Welfare under the name Defra. You might check it out and see if you can locate some info that would help . They talk a lot about the keeping of birds and Avian Flu. I had to di through pages to locate the pet bird section . Mary
  22. I'm not sure about the UK , but here we have animal rights activist groups that would have a hay day in that place . First of all , what I saw on the surrender page was they are actually telling people their birds will be happier with them , so they throw a guilt trip on the people . Second , you all say the conditions are over populated , so a sanitation law might be in an avenue to look at . Also the breeding situation , what are they doing with the baby birds? How is this organization funded . I guess you might check with animal housing or talk to a local zoo , to see if they have a comment .Perhaps a parrot club , if you have them in the UK.... I don't know . Mary
  23. I'm sorry , but you can't use one that releases negative ions. Switch off the ion control button . Mary
