Welcome to the forum, Char. I'm relatively new as well. Our CAG is also 4 months old. We have had him/her two weeks today. I sent away for DNA test, but we won't have the results yet for 9-14 days. We named him Obi, and have been addressing Obi as he. Won't we be surprised if he's a girl - lol - it really doesn't matter, he's a lovely little bird. Good luck with your new addition, and welcome to the forum!

LOL - Yes, I'm finding out now for sure about how they can turn things into messes. Thanks for the vinyl flooring mat idea. Have a great weekend!

Aw, good luck Skuffy. I hope Max likes his harness. I want to get Obi one too, however, he needs to get used to being handled. We haven't made it that far yet. Went to your profile, and loved the pics!

By the way, goldn1, didn't associate Dorian Grey until I visited your profile - fun name! Have a great weekend!

Heather, that's so cool. I can't wait until Obi starts talking. Thanks for sharing! -
Welcome Heather! This is an awesome forum where everyone is so helpful and welcoming. Your story is very touching. Sounds like you have given Opie a good, loving home. I'm a new Grey owner myself. Obi will be with us two weeks tomorrow. He was born 12/07/07, so he's still young. He's stepping up and loves being out of his cage. We are so happy he's adjusted so well in our home. We will find out if Obi is a he/she as soon as the DNA results come back. Once again, welcome to this lovely forum. {Feel-good-00020069}

Thanks for all the tips. I'm heading to Walmart tomorrow to get some Aloe to spray him with. When he sits on the top of the cage, his droppings fall onto the floor. This evening I was wiping each time he dropped before it had time to sit. I made a seed catcher out of mesh, and it was pretty funky, so that's all nice and clean now too. I need to get a system down, wiping down the cage, bathing him, etc., and hopefully it will cut back on the seeds and feathers falling everywhere. Bye for now

I hope this isn't too silly of a question to ask - lol -but I'm new to this. We have a fairly large kitchen with laminate floor. Thanks again!

Hi, does anyone have any tips for keeping the area clean (floor) around the cage. Wow, I didn't realize how messy a larger bird could be - lol - I am also noticing an odor of bird. Obi hasn't had a bath or spray yet, so I guess that's next on my agenda. Thanks, and have a great evening!

Thank you for answering. It seems I may have to try and spice up the beans then. I tried adding applesauce and finely cut apples to the oatmeal, but no luck. I'll keep trying and hopefully he'll get some, even if only a little.

Hi everyone. Since I'm a relatively new Grey owner, I have a few questions. The breeder gave me a dried bean mix to cook and freeze after adding mixed veggies. Obi does not seem to eat this at all. I tried giving him oatmeal with chopped carrots and apples in the morning; however, he doesn't seem to eat this either. She also gave me a seed mixture (sunflower, peanut, and other seeds, not sure what they are) and another bag of dried foods of mixed fruits and veggies. Obi will eat this very well. He loves grapes, which I give to him on a daily basis. He seems to eat greens, lettuce mixture and celery tops. My question is if he's not eating the bean mixture (warm) or the oatmeal I've been mixing up for him, what's the point of trying to offer this to him. Is there anything else I should be doing? I also give him a pinch of powdery vitamins she provided. Any advice or opinions would be welcome as this is my first CAG. He's a great little bird, actually big since I'm used to cockatiels - lol - seems very good-tempered, quiet mostly, but is now stepping up and loves coming out of his cage. Have a great Friday - TGIF!

That's awesome! I know how happy you must be. Congrats on the progress.

Amy, loved the video! Your Iggle Piggle is adorable! Obi is just four months, we've had him almost two weeks now. So far, he's stepping up and loves to come out of his cage. I can't wait until he/she starts talking. We should be finding out the sex in several days. Sounds like you're having a ball with your cute Iggle Piggle. Thanks for sharing the video!

Jazz, I see our Greys have the same name, Obi. I'm not sure if ours is a male or female yet, but should find out in about another week or so. Our Obi had no ring band, but he was purchased from a private, small breeder who has been in business for 30 years.

My breeder instructed me to cook a bag of soy bean mix, which she provided. Obi doesn't really seem to enjoy that, so I tried oatmeal for several days - no big deal to him either. So, this morning, I tried the bean mixture again (as I have a ton frozen already) adding carrots and apples cut up into small pieces. So, we'll see how that works. Obi absolutely loves the yogurt dipped raisin, nuts, etc., which she also gave me a starter bag mixed with other dried fruits/veggies. She said she mixed this herself with food that humans could eat, not from a pet store. I haven't a clue where to get these items. Do any of you mix your own or buy them from the pet store? If you mix your own, where do you get the ingredients? Very interesting about the sunflower seeds, though. No wonder Obi loves them so much. He doesn't seem too big on pellets. Are they necessary for them to have? Thanks for answering, and have a great day everyone!

YAY, that's wonderful news!

What a cute photo! I bet your little boy loves Raven and Raven loves him. Adorable!

Great idea about spraying it in the bottom of the cage to cut down on the dust. I'll be getting some next time I visit Walmart. Thanks for all the information. This site is awesome!

Great idea about the video, bring it on, I can't wait to see it.

Welcome Coopersmom. I hope you aren't too disappointed about their decision to keep Cooper. Who knows, you may decide to venture out there and buy a Grey on your own now. We've had Obi for 8 days, and he's making progress. Have a great Monday!

Tuca is so sweet! Congratulations and thanks for posting the picture.

I'll get some from Walmart then. Do you have to keep it refrigerated? I guess it will have instructions on the gallon. Obi hasn't been sprayed yet ever, so that's going to be something that I'll work on with him too. Thanks again!
